Linux-based operating system that goes on gaming-oriented boxes that attach to your TV, aka consoles.
Valve's making a console, fellas. And they're doing it in the way that people wanted the Xbox One to work.
This actually looks really good at first glance, and might be the HTPC OS of choice from now on.

Intresting.

Definitely want to see more.

Will this mean I'll be able to game completely on Linux?

I cringe every time I hear that S word personally... Ive had horrible experiences with Valve.

But you can burn the game to a disc to have a backup, or to eliminate the need to redownload like you had to. -
The steam machine controller looks like a boombox.

It's an interesting design. Valve is relying pretty heavily on touch accuracy. I've never found touch to be very good for gaming, but I guess a thumb-based trackpad should be functionally similar to an analog stick.

Just bought Far Cry 3 (already have Blood Dragon). I expect I'll be breaking my $5 rule a few times during this sale (AC4 & Watch Dogs specifically).
Boo to just ~4.0 MB/S. -
I picked up Witcher 1 and 2 for 5 bucks combined.
PC master race. -
It's on my short list to play next. -
The low price and Witcher 3's solid E3 presentation led me to give the series a try. I'll probably get to them in 2017.
-
So I guess we'll use this as the PC master (race) thread?

Just further cements me as done with PC gaming for good, I think. I need to take really good care of my two year old Windows 7 laptop too, and make it last as long as it possibly can, or I might not be able to even get a PC I can use the way that I want in the future.
Before I was laid off a year ago (retail), I recieved extensive/endless training from my employer and Microsoft on Windows 8 and Office, and they did their best to just ignore that people without broadband exist. When pressed, they basically shrug and say people like myself don't matter. I would have to imagine from all that I was told that Windows 10 will be more of the same. -
Possible legitimate reason: Legacy software code that checks for OS versions search for "Windows 9" when looking for Windows 95/98 compatibility, so Microsoft had to skip "Windows 9" to avoid a major software compatibility issue.
Actual reason: unknown.

Lol oh Des. Your Jobs is showing.

The training from Microsoft (windows and Office) dealt with everything being online at all times and software being downloaded instead of bought via disc. Period, no exceptions soon. The whole valve/steam deal set me off, and I'm sorry. -
I'm guessing you have a problem with Office 365. That's unfortunately the future for enterprise deployments of Office; it's cheaper. -
I am running pre-release windows 10. It is awesome. Only bug I encountered is that COD Advanced Warfare would freeze randomly during multiplayer play. Otherwise it is as if Windows 7 had steaming hot sex with Windows 8.1 and had a super child.
-
I have Windows 10 running in a VM. It feels like 7 with a theme that looks like 8 and 8.1. But at this point I upgrade Windows for bug fixes and under the hood improvements (8/8.1's SSD management is light years beyond 7's), so I couldn't care less what it looks like so long as it loads Steam.
I'm excited for DirectX 12, and I'm upgrading my GPU to a compatible release when it's available. -
