Well, if Orton is to rich for some folks, Young will be "free" on Thursday, make a play or no?
Vince Young to Miami?

Better move than Orton. Certainly has a downside, but at least he doesn't cost you picks

I live in TN and have watched every game he has played for the Titans. He has his problems but he also has the ability to take over a game and win it. I think and new place and new staff could do wonders for this kid and I don't think his price tag would be too high. I am an optimist so I would at least "look into it".

Good, hopefully that will drive down the price of an Orton trade.
-
Hes free, can move around the pocket, improvise....I want him over Orton big time. (if the choice is between the 2)

In any event this is great leverage for the Dolphins in terms of Ortin, and VY....the ball is in their court, Ireland should be able to be Ortin for a 4th now...Denver is desperate to dump his salary....so if VY is readily available, the pressure is on Denver....
-
Ireland needs a HGH shot or something. -
Young > Orton IF Young can get his med's dosed correctly. Also, Young would cost us next to nothing so why not give him a shot.

Have you ever really looked at Fisher's W/L record?MrClean likes this. -
If we cant get Orton(and I wouldnt trade anything higher then a 3rd for him), I would settle for VY. competition
-
Id prefer orton

You got a 'yes' vote out of me, so help me god.
I see him as extremely boom or bust, and that fits with what I'd prefer for the Dolphins. The thought of more 7-9 or 8-8 mediocrity scares me more than the thought of the team foundering.MarinePhinFan, Muck and schmolioot like this. -
It isn't tossing away a season, honestly how much better does VY make this offense under the new system, as opposed to how much better can Henne be under the new system as well, will there be much of a drop off...? only time would tell obviously, however I think people really tend to get in love too much with the "pocket breaking down" VY chaos aspect...I don't....Not interested in it in the least... -

Perhaps continuity played a part in his "success" in the past decade.MrClean likes this. -
Incidentally nobody should be all goody-goody on Vince's "issues".
When Florio wrote a note about this news of Vince being released tomorrow, he stuck this in:

If you're super talented, the NFL doesn't demand nearly as much out of you as a leader as most people seem to imply, even at the QB position. Vince Young just has to not be a thuggish psycho, take his job seriously, and work in the film room. But even that much seems beyond him. But, maybe we'll find out.

Well, I guess I'd rather get Young for free than trade something for Orton...go Henne, I think!?

-
I'd prefer Young over Orton even if they were both free agents.
I hope he lands here. But my head says we'll leverage the threat of Young and get Denver down to a #3 pick.
Still, all Jeff Ireland has to do is get him here. Tony can sit him until Henne flounders and he's forced to insert Young. -
I'd bring in Young. He and Orton and several others (including Henne) are in that average but probably not franchise QBs territory. I don't see any of them as giving us an appreciably better chance to win this year than Henne does. So, it just doesn't make sense to sell the future to acquire more of what we have. Especially since this coming draft could be a pretty good QB draft.
-
Even with all his potential problems, at this point I'm falling into the VY camp. He is a guy that can come in and win games for you. I think Orton would be a guy that could hold the position down until you could draft a replacement and a 2nd round pick is too much to give for that.
I'd rather roll the dice with Young than play it safe with Orton. Either would be an upgrade over our current situation though. -
I'm going to try and hammer out a column on the Orton-Young dilemma tonight, assuming the front office doesn't make it a moot point today.

Personally.....Id go with Vince Young....wont have to give up draft picks.....and he has higher upside then Orton. Plus...they have really good shrinks in South Florida

Where is the option for "Hell No!"
-
As a player... I'd prefer Orton over Young.
As a football business decision... I'd prefer Young over Orton as he won't cost us picks.
As a fan... I'm not really keen on either of them being Dolphins.
Orton I'd take, but nothing more than a third, and a third is pushing it IMO. It's just not a big enough upgrade IMO to give up that much.finyank13 likes this. -
Dolphins fans shouldn't be surprised when Vince Young suits up as a Miami Dolphin. The best thing that could happen to Orton supporters is Arizona & Philly to strike a deal to get Kolb. I see Orton going to Arizona and Miami landing Vince Young here on a FA contract. The contract will dictate the Dolphins intentions for Vince Young's status this year.
-
Another thing that inspires confidence in Young is that he just flat out wins a lot of games.
Doesn't matter whether he's a truly elite passer or whatever. The fact is, good or bad, his teams play better when he's in the lineup. The people around him elevate their games e.g. "he makes the players around him better".
That's different than Jay Fielder, who also had a winning record as a starter and could make plays with his legs. Young is in a different category athletically and has a bigger arm.
Overall, Young is 30-19 as a starter including playoffs.
I guess the most important thing to remember is that we're not talking about franchise quarterbacks here. We're talking about competition and potential short-term improvement. None of this should preclude us from addressing the position next year. But trading picks tends to make such things a little more difficult.MarinePhinFan and mullingan like this. -
Am I missing something, but I really don't see the fascination with VY? I mean, take away the head case thing, is he really that good? Good arm, and can move, but I see a really inconsistent player, who doesn't really lead. And - unfortunately - you can't take away the head case thing. Dude has run from any situation that turns remotely against him. He is not a leader, and does not handle adversity well. We want him under center for us why, exactly?
-
I'll give ya the part about no franchise QBs (although, a small part of me feels Orten could become more than just a stop-gap). We should never stop looking for the next great Miami QB!
