Is a freaking stud.
Zero catches for Randy Moss is a phenomenal day for Davis.
My soul is just as crushed by the loss as the rest of you but I was pleased to see the continuing emergence of our best DB since Surtain.

Vontae Davis has no soul. There is nothing where his soul should be. Only poison.

yeah kudos to VD, and Wake...both pluses...
honestly if you would have told me that the score was 41-14, and Randy Moss had zip, zero, nada....in terms of catches, yards, and TD's....I would have bet my house that the Dolphins won by that score....dolfan22, BlameItOnTheHenne, Zach13 and 1 other person like this. -

The best part is, he's doing it all under the radar so to speak. Favre the only one really to give him any credit. Mind you ESPN showcased him a bit during the game for his work on Moss, but other than that, its awfully quiet out there about him.
We all know it though, this kid is a stud, just keeps getting better. Along with Wake. Both are huge for us.Zach13 likes this. -

Having Vontae is the reason I'd love to trade up for Patrick Peterson! Let's beat the Jets at their own freakin game. Vontae and Peterson can lock up the WRs so we can continuously bring the heat while also allowing us to free up defenders to better prevent death from TEs. Just my current thoughts (although they change frequently)

Vontae is an animal. Also thank you to Zach as this might be the first thread all day that didnt feel like half the forum was jumping off the ledge :)

Is there a site that compiles that stat if how many times a CB is thrown at? Either number of times or percentage? Someone must have it, I know people threw it out there for that Raiders CB (Who's name I can't spell and won't look up). He doesn't pick off as many because he doesn't get thrown at.

Peter King on Sirius NFL this morning just called Vontae a top player, and that people are going to have to start talking about him as an elite corner. He was talking about how Moss was going to have to continue going up against Revis twice a year in NY, and he threw Vontae in there twice a year too, and said yeah, and we're going to have to stop talking about Vontae Davis at the same time as a top player as well. I think he even said elite, but I got so excited I've already forgotten  Either way, Peter King giving Vontae some serious love this morning on Sirius.

Vontae was so good the Patriots traded Moss to Minnesota.

this is not to detract from Vontae's play, which has been good all season, but with the Moss trade being completed this morning, and the fact he only has 9 catches all season (rookie TE Hernandez has twice as many), i would look to his performance in the other games to justify the labels being bestowed upon him.

Good to know at least one positive thing is going on with the team this year (so far)

I blame Vontae for Moss wanting out of seeing him twice a year.

I think Vontae is easily a top-5 corner in the AFC, top-10 in the league.
That said, the blanking of Moss has a bit to do with Moss and his lack of effort as well. His exit from the Patriots was in process before MNF, so don't give ALL the credit to Vontae there. :up:Zach13 likes this. -
Has he been beat once yet in 4 games? He's really developing into a shut down corner if he's not one already, and he plays the run as good as any other corner in the league as well. Talk about a complete player. I watched him on Moss and Welker the entire game and I literally question how they were able to breathe.

It sure sounds to me like Moss was into the game on Monday:
"When the first quarter ended Monday without a single pass thrown in Randy Moss' direction, the All-Pro wide receiver jokingly warned Dolphins cornerback Vontae Davis not to get too comfortable with his shutdown performance.
``Three more quarters!'' Moss said.
After the second quarter, Moss warned him again. After the third quarter, same deal. It lasted until Moss had gone an entire game without a catch for the only time of his career with the Patriots. He was targeted just once."
"I'm going to miss [the competition], but it's a problem off my hands,'' Davis said after Moss was traded out of the division. ``He's one of the best receivers at getting the deep ball to ever play the game.''
Davis said he didn't sense Moss ``hitting the brakes'' at any point during Monday's head-to-head battle, an assertion made by Pro Bowl cornerback Darrelle Revis about his own Week 2 matchup with the Patriots."

I love Vontae. He is well on his way to elite status as a corner. I thought it was only a matter of time after watching him ball last year.

Sapp, Bell. and Smith were the two most victimized DB's on MNF. They completed 3/4/42 yards, 4/4/26 yards on Bell, on Sapp and 3/3/25 yards on SmithZach13 likes this. -
I was unfortunately at the game on Monday. However, I watched Vontae almost exclusively all game b/c I wanted to watch the Vontae/Moss match up. You cant ever really watch the secondary from home... so I really wanted to soak in as much of watching Vontae as I could, to really see for myself if he is where I thought/hoped he was as a player.
After watching almost every snap... Vontae IS one of the best CBs in the league right now... no question.djphinfan and RickyNeverInhaled like this. -
My brother just got back from a business trip in Miami. He ended up going to the NE/MIA game (he's a Jets fan like me, but he was rooting hard for MIA - he hates NE). I asked him what his impressions were:
1. He said Miami has the hottest 50 cheerleaders he has ever seen
2. He was surprised how many NE fans were in the stadium.
3. He said you could tell Moss gave up the ghost in the second half. He said two plays happened right in front of him that said it all. On both occaisons, he went on a deep route and didn't look like he was running close to full speed. But what's worse is that when the ball went underneath, he made no attempt to block for his teammate. As my brother put it, "If his uniform has front pants pockets, he would have had his hands in here while he watched people run by him." He said it was that obvious and that bad.
It's been said he did the same thing in second half of the Jets game. Do you really think Cromartie has it in him to shut down Moss? I don't. What a sack of crap. His teammates should have given him a going away blanket party. -
