Wonder what Pagano thinks about that? Classy move to kick the guy when he's down. Cowardly too, if you had an issue with him say it his face or at least while he's still employed.

If im Vontae id meet up with Philbin and do that wave hand motion Ireland did to him when he traded him.
Top 3 cb he can say what he wants. Philbin and Ireland were both dead wrong about him and we could use Vontae right now. That was an epic failure by Philbin not being able to develop his talent here.MonstBlitz, muscle979, ssmiami and 12 others like this. -

Old news.

So as far as kicking guys while they're down, Philbin certainly struck first. The only difference here, however, is that Davis is a lifetime Pro-Bowler and one of the best corners in the league. Philbin is a candy-*** clown that got laughed out of South Beach.thisperishedmin, ToddPhin, Tin Indian and 8 others like this. -
I'm actually glad it still burns him. As fans we feel plenty burned by it too.thisperishedmin and MikeHoncho like this. -

his job is to check the players in a way where they can relate to him, wake up, and focus on their craft. -
Whoa, whoa, whoa!!! I read that Philbin asked to call his wife when he got fired. If true, then hypocrisy thy name is Philbin.
Evil Ronnie was a supreme physical talent. What a waste... -
Philbin worked tirelessly to earn every bit of his unemployment.
Sadly he hurt this franchise along the way.

Remember when they traded Vontea they said his play was just to up or down...Hah Yeh you need to stay on a straight and upward pointed line just like this organization.

I bet grandma is happy Philbin was axed too.

When you have bad coaching, players with supreme potential go underdeveloped. I'd say Vontae now appears to be the product of much more structure and discipline than when he was in Miami.
What this should tell everyone is that no player comes into the NFL with a single future. How they're developed shapes how they evolve. Too often we hear people talk about college prospects as though their futures are set in stone. That's clearly not the case.
The same player can be a complete waste of talent in one place as well as an elite, league leader in another. It just depends where they go.
As a Dolphin fan, that's depressing because it leads us to conclude that who Miami selects in the draft may be irrelevant. There's a large chance that anyone Miami selects will go underdeveloped.gunn34 and Dolphinzdawgg like this. -

Its an attitude really.
James Jones was released by two teams this offseason, they couldnt figure out if he is good at anything, he goes to a situation like Green Bay where the attitude is be great and bring results, and look at him now, revitalized, likely more NFL years in front of him.
You go to a Philbin or Sparano lead team, there is no organization, no leadership. Everything is conservative. And then you step in a situation where you are expected to bring results and youre always at the edge of your seat, your coaches trusts and believes in you to take risks and you are suddenly a different player.
Sean and Vontae both felt they had the potential to be the best cornerback duo in the NFL, they said it publicly and they were right.
Vontae is top 3, and Sean is somewhere between 5-10.
If we had a competent coaching staff we would have two less holes on defense with them on board. We could have gotten away with Clemons at safety still with reshad next to him and all we would need answers to right now is middle linebacker and another defensive end.
Instead we need a defensive end, two corners because Grimes isnt getting younger, a free safety, and a linebacker. We arent going to fill all those holes in one offseason that will take two minimum most likely 3 where as we by luck had drafted sean and vontae in the same freaken year!Tin Indian and DolphinGreg like this. -

Vontae, Smith, Carroll, Clemons, even Jimmy Wilson could be starting for Miami right now.
Incognito, Jerry, Clay, Soliai, Dansby, a long list.
Philbin had a top ten defense when he walked in the door and pissed it away to run Coyle's scheme instead. Had he left the D as is and focused on building the offense he might still be employed.Tin Indian and DolphinGreg like this. -
Another case of Miami butthurt. Hey Vontae tell Heath Evans, and J Martin we all said piss off.

i have been very particular as to why I dont like nate burleson and none of those reasons have anythin to do with how vontae davis was acting..
he was my favorite payer because of how he played football and his talent, when he was late or drunk or whatever it was, of course I was dissapointed..vontae was a immature kid bro, burleson is just a poser...theres a difference.. -
We all knew Vontae was immature and we all knew trading him was a mistake.
Philbin was great at shedding talent, I'll give him that.xphinfanx, adamprez2003, djphinfan and 2 others like this. -
What a dick. He came to practice drunk like a ****ing baboon. Any boss would fire him anywhere in life. He's an immature *******. If he really blames Philbin then I really don't miss him, he may be physically amazing on the field, but mentally he's 3rd grade.

Philbin and Ireland convinced themselves that Richard Marshall is better than Vontae Davis. That scrub we gave 3 years 16 million to. They felt vontae was expendable with Marshall on board.
Richard Marshall by the way doesnt have a job right now.
