Naturally, I'm gonna say Dan of course. Montana got the rings because of the team he had around him, and an amazing offensive mind at head coach. On top of that, Montana had a humble air about himself that strikes well with the general fan base. But when it comes to pure passing skills, it would have to be Dan.
Not at all surprised by the vote %.666Dog and Coral Reefer like this. -
Geez... that "Millenials" bracket is weak as hell.
McNabb and Bledsoe?
Come on .... neither should even be mentioned in the same breath as any of the others left in the discussion.
Just erase the bracket...... embarrassing.Da 'Fins, Steve-Mo, Colorado Dolfan and 1 other person like this. -

I kid I kid. But some fans would not agree with our boy winning that round -
It's just a stupid fun thing for fans to do. Russell Wilson will be declared the greatest qb of all time on this little game NFL.com is doing, mostly to generate clicks/revenue. Don't need this game to know who are the best quarterbacks to ever play the game.
Me personally I never cared for "who's the best" of any sport, such a ridiculous debate, too many rule changes and many types of changes in medicine to get into that debate. Moon and Favre switch teams and Warren would have a Super Bowl ring, but Favre would still be considered an all time great with the Oilers. Switch teams Marino with Montana and Marino would have several rings and Montana would still be a hall of fame quarterback. -
Montana, hands down the best. have to be an incurable homer to go with Dan over Montana...

No way 23rd. Dan was the better QB. Montana had the better teams.

Better arm. Big Joe would say it. Montana is a gent as well as a true QB. Brady is Montana Mk2. Hate to say it. Only 3 QBs I've had cause to hate during my time as a Dolphin fan. Montana, Kelly and Brady. Montana and Kelly I have learned to respect. I still hate Brady...fact. That will not change . ;)

I am more than happy to say I am a huge homer.
I think if you replace Marino with Montana, 49ers still win superbowls, and Miami still wins zero.anthony0187, DenverDolfan, Da 'Fins and 3 others like this. -

Marino was the better passer but I think Montana a more efficient overall QB. Montana made far fewer mistakes and was more detailed (his ball fakes were great, for example while Dan's were non-existent.
Montana is very gracious in praising Marino as arguably the greatest thrower in history. I concur.
One thing is for sure in my view - Marino is clearly a better QB than Elway. Half of Elway's come
Backs were because he sucked so bad early in the game. -

Here's a great piece on 4th Quarter Comebacks that demonstrates Marino is at the very top (over Elway). Not sure if Manning has passed him up since the piece was written.
It really undermines the myth about Elway.
But, the one caveat I would add is that Marino had some tremendous 4th quarter games and drives that would have been game winning drives or comebacks had he had any semblance of a defense. I can't count the number of times Marino put Miami in the lead, often within the last two minutes, only to see the D collapse and lose the game. Really, some of those defenses in the mid-late 80's, right in Dan's prime, were arguably the worst Ds in the history of the franchise and some of the worst defense played in NFL history.

Another very interesting blog for the greatest QB of all-time:

Dan is more than just a hero to Fins fans...he approaches divinity...however to everyone else he will always be the guy who went to 1 SB and lost. Respected, admired, but never held in serious contention as the GOAT of QBs, which is sad but that is the way the world works.
Of course most people don't realize or appreciate that rings and SB wins are team efforts. No single QB, coach or yahoo can will their team to victory, the team has to do that. Dan had a team problem, not the team having a Dan problem.dolphindebby likes this. -
Montana played with numerous great players meanwhile most football fans can't name 1 WR or RB that Marino shared the field with.

They played like the were hall HOF players.
They caught the ball and ran.
They were great. IMO
And Nat Moore. -
Receivers weren't the problem....not even the run game was bad...the defense...the defense let in more points than Dan could throw for.

From an outsider looking in....
I think most knowledgable NFL fans recognized Marino for what he was.
Marino was one of the greatest passers of all time. He made throws very few QBs could make. He had a pocket presence that was unbelievable. He would side step and move in the pocket just enough to avoid blitzes and make plays.
Marino had several solid and good players on the team with him during his time but he never really had great players or difference makers. His team was never a complete team. Not to mention I recall later in Marinos carreer that his OL was terrible. He seemed to get creamed and pressured to often.
The thing is when you lack a run game and you don't have difference makers at WR your team becomes much easier to defend.Steve-Mo likes this. -
