I'd think it's fine too. People make too big a deal about possible injuries on returns. There are a lot of rules in place to protect players on special teams and it rarely happens. I'd say he's in more danger lining up at WR.

 

Link is not working, but yes, I think it's a good idea. When that guy took some of the those quick, short passes to the house, it was amazing. That was his pure speed. Some will say that he gets paid too much to be a returner because he might get hurt, etc. I say blah, blah. Go for it.

 

Ya I think there was a study that proved getting hurt returning kicks was not as common as many believe.

 

IMO There is a much bigger risk for the guys running full speed into blockers, getting cut and blocked from behind and so forth than there is to the actual returner.

 

He's got one professional return, and pedestrian results on the handful he did in college. I don't think he's the answer there.

He's combating an image he got during the off season that he's not working as hard as others because he spent a bunch of time away while others worked with Tannehill privately every day. He also showed up to the off season program a day late. So what does he do to improve his image? He spends a couple extra minutes catching balls on the JUGS machines during the few practice days that the media are allowed to attend, and he starts making statements to the press about returning kicks knowing full well the coaches likely have no interest in that. It's great image rehab and it's working. Pretty smart, if you ask me.

 

Yeah I'm not buyin it, kickoff returns is a specific talent, just because your fast doesn't mean it's the answer, angles, vision, anticipation and pure running thru the smoke at full speed guts.

 

Well, he's my ace kick returner in Madden, so that would definitely translate to the real games

 

LOL, no way I risk him getting hurt that way in Madden. Injuries might not be more likely for returners in real life, but they sure as Hell are in the game!

I'm a Wallace apologist but I agree with CK. He's had two years in a row where he's perceived as being a whiner/selfish. Before 2012 there was mostly praise about his work ethic, teamwork etc. He was working out during the lockout remember.

He hardly has been a nationally known "whiner" type like a T.O, etc. That's being a bit overblown and to some extent, all the great ones do at times. Before 2012? Of course no one complained before 2012, "Treason never prospers because if it prospers, no one dare call it it treason". All things considered with how bad the OL was and that Tanne got sacked more than any other QB, etc, etc, he didn't have that bad of a year.

I'd be happier with Miller back there. He tore it up at UM returning kicks/punts. just ask any OSU fan.

 

Hmmm. I could imagine him being very good in that department. He's very good at seeing and cruising through the lanes and creases.

 

For the life of me I can't understand why Rishard Matthews doesn't return punts.

He did it at OSU and IIRC he has the school record for the longest return.

 

His percentage of long ball catches is questionable.

 

If he's not the starting RB this season, I think this would be a good idea. Either way, we need to get rid of Thigpen. He's not impactful enough as a return man to warrant taking a roster spot as a pure specialist.

 

And he soaks his hands in Mink Oil for a few months...
