This is great news but how much of a restructure are we talking about? In the article Wallace says it has to be done in such a way where he can earn his money back. How much of a pay cut is he willing to take?

 

This is pretty big, if they can squash whatever happened last year and move forward. Act of good faith right here. And our WR situation goes from dire to manageable. That's what is most important.

Im sure hes willing so long as he gets more guaranteed money. But will he drive his price down much? Unlikely especialky after Maclin and Cobb's deals and believe it or mot, Wallace is in their tier.

Wallace knows he can't make what we're paying him anywhere else. He also knows his trade value isn't high enough for a deal and that we'd eat a lot of dead money if he were released. Neither side has much leverage so I doubt they'll be much of a pay cut.

 

He isn't willing to take a pay cut. He's willing to guarantee more salary this year and push some into the future. That would be stupid for the team, because they can cut him a year from now and clear 10 mil in cap space while only taking a 2 mil hit. Dumping money into 2016 is not the solution.

On the one hand, keeping Wallace on the roster will help if Clay leaves for Buffalo. Plus we can draft a WR and w/o the pressure of him stepping up to be a #1 as a rookie. On the other hand, I really don't want to keep Mike Wallace beyond this next season. He and Tannehill have no chemistry at the one aspect of Mike Wallace's game that's worth a damn.

 

I'm with you on that. I think that drafting a WR in the 1st round (if plausible) and then going with that rookie, Wallace and Landry as our top three for 2015 is the best plan. Then, cut Wallace next March and free up the cap space. Depending on how the rookie plays, then we look at adding other WR next offseason and how expensive they need to be.

 

Atleast he is giving them the option of saving a few million this year and counting it towards future guarentees. It Atleast gives them an option to be try and get creative.

 

I don't think he will take much of a pay cut if at all. I say cut him next year and save a bunch of cap space. Like another poster said the team can't even utilize his best game which is the deep ball. So they wouldn't even be able to ever maximize his potential. Draft a WR this year and next. Then put the rest of Wallace's money toward the offensive line and defense. Even with a pay cut Wallace's contract is too much. He earns almost more than Nelson, Cobb, and Adams COMBINED!! If you're not top 5 WR you shouldn't be getting that kind of money.

It's too bad they didn't (or couldn't) get involved in the Jeremy Maclin sweepstakes. 5 years and $55M. Easily more cost-effective than Wallace.

 

everyone keeps saying clay is gonna be a bill, but I feel like we're not giving him up without a fight. The bills probably kno they have to drop 9-10 million on clay this year to make him Unobtainable for us.

Maclin's injury-prone. If he could stay on the field, I'd agree with you; but I think last year was an aberration.

 

I agree. I find the curious case of Charles clay fascinating. I love him, but he's not gronk, or graham, or even julius thomas or Jason witten.
