With Jake gone could we see a guard being drafted to let Jerry kick out to RT? Austin completes me as a fan, so I'd prefer not to do it at 12, but there should be options in the second. We haven't been putting the pressure on the takes left in FA, or at least, I haven't seen the reports of it that I would have expected if that was the direction that they wanted to go. Jerry seemed ok as tackle, but that's just my memory. Anyone pay more attention to his play? Tell me why I'm stupid.

I'm really hoping the light sort of turns on for the kid and he get's his weight and everything together. He has a lot of potential, I think he just needs to dedicate himself and it would really help us fill a void.

If I knew how to post something funny I would..
Like Jerry in a pool of chocolate..
We don't know much at this point, I believe there is an OTA coming up soon no?, we should find out or see a pic of the kid, we'll see if he's a man or a dum ***.Boik14 likes this. -
Not sure Jerry is a good fit for the ZBS and Cooper is probably a better fit than Warmack.

I'm not sure how I feel with an offensive line with Martin as the LT and Jerry as the RT. I would much rather see the Dolphins sign Vollmer or Winston and put one of these players at LT and return Martin to RT.
As far as the Dolphins selecting Warmack with their first round pick. I would have no problem with that at all. He would certainly be a definite upgrade over Jerry at the RG position.anthony0187 likes this. -
Warmack is plays in what is overwhelmingly a zone blocking run game. He's not the fastest guy from a 40 yard dash standpoint, but he's quite good at it. He's athletic enough to do what you want, and technically he can do the job really well. The guy knows how to combo block really well.

No to Warmack at 12. I would rather go cb or de than ol at 12. I personally want Austin. Take a guard later in the draft, take a tackle in rounds 2 through 4, and stick to the orginal plan which likely didn't include having Long.

Either way, I think the guy Miami will target as OL help is David Bakhtiari from Colorado.Boik14 likes this. -
Bottom line to me on Chance Warmack is he doesn't have unique ability as a football player, he's just uniquely coached and polished. You can probably take guys in the mid or even late rounds and within a few years make them as good as he is. Cooper's a little more unique. But I still wouldn't consider either guy at 12 and you'd be hard pressed to get me considering either at 42.
At least when the Dolphins took Mike Pouncey at 15 overall, he had unique abilities relative to the position. Unique athletic ability, range, agility, etc. He was better than his brother Maurkice.texanphinatic likes this. -

I just can't understand taking a guard in round 1. I get that we technically did it with Pouncey, but we moved him to C. -
I agree that Warmack isn't a special player at least not enough IMO to put him in play at #12. The same can be said for taking any CB to plug int a zone system. I still see pass rusher (my guess is Werner) or Austin as the most likely choices at #12.

Lane Johnson is the best offensive tackle in this class, IMO. I wouldn't be upset at taking him at 12 overall almost regardless of who else was available.

It's not like he's physically average, either. He's not Carl Nicks in terms of size/speed, but he's hardly a slouch either. Guys who are as powerful as Warmack generally are just straight man blocking, non-pulling right guards. Warmack can handle short pulls and whatever zone blocking you want. -
I find him to be physically below average. Good functional strength but a 5.50 kind of guy (on film, on a track) and not a guy I think has an unusual 10 yard split or explosive/agility measures to make up for it. He's balanced, deliberate, and powerful. And I'm pretty sure I can find that outside of the 1st round...eventually.

Isn't the 12th pick in the first round a little high to select a Guard? Also do people think there will be two offensive tackles taken in the 1st eleven picks of the first round because Luke Joeckel will be the first Tackle selected? I know some mocks have Eric Fisher as the second tackle being selected.

A fair amount of Warmack's promise is his technical skills, but I don't see how you can treat that as soft skills that anyone can learn. There are loads of good, veteran NFL players who don't do the technical aspect as good as Warmack seems to do naturally. I don't think a lot of the things Warmack does that are technical skills are really all that "learned" either. It's the same kind of sense as waist-bending vs. leg bending kind of thing. They're theoretically technical skills rather than physical traits, but they are almost treated as such. -
I am not opposed to moving Jerry to tackle, but I would like to see Yeatman get a chance. However, I don't like the idea of Warmack in the first period.

I am thinking Austin, defensive end, or cb.

Also, I just coincidentally found this article by the humble Mr. Dumonjic when looking for some information on Warmack, for those of you interested in Alen's take:

Warmack is a beast but I would worry about him and Jerry on the right side not being mobile enough to play in a ZBS at the pro level. I think you can get away with one but not sure about both. Also not sure if its enough of an upgrade to make it worthwhile at 12
