I like Sanu a lot, but I'm sadly not sure he'd be a good fit in Miami with us already having a slew of possession receivers and in bad need of speed, especially if Philibin wants to spread it out. IMHO, if we're using a 1st rounder on WR, Kendall Wright would be a better compliment since he's the guy who can take the top off defenses; however, considering the depth of quality FA receivers, we might be better off going that route first and saving our high picks for other positions of impact despite how enticing Sanu appears.

IMO we could do well using a 3rd on Jairus Wright or Joe Adams. The Bears or Raiders could greatly use a guy like Muhamed though, and I might be salivating for him if we were only missing a big, physical, reliable, go-to possession receiver.

 

I wonder who they would target at 15? Tannenhill? Wright? DeCastro?

 

You know what scares me about that video?

Very first play, right off the bat, you have a great run by Mohamed Sanu. But what happens at the end of it? Freshman linebacker Dominique Robertson runs Sanu down from behind and gets a shot at him prior to crossing the goal line. He couldn't QUITE prevent him from getting in the end zone, but it would scare me that this supposedly dominant NFL wide receiver is not faster in the open field than a freshman linebacker that timed in the 4.6 range.

 

Apparently, right now Alshon Jeffery is sitting around 245-250 LBS and is running in the 4.8s. Any confirmation on this ck?

 

Except that the tweet you're referring to said he's at St. Vincent's in Indianapolis, yet he's been training in FL for the past month.

 

The only Wideouts i would take with any of our picks in the first would either be blackmon if he fell or wright if we traded to the bottom of the first... we have too many other needs to be thinking wide reciever in the first unless marshall dies... which is much less impossible then people think..

 

How do you account for conditioning in cases like this? Considering how much an athlete's 40 time changes even the second time they run it at the combine, seems like it would be hard to make a blanket statement about a player's speed based only on a highlight reel.

Maybe Sanu ran a couple of fly routes in the same drive and this freshman kid is straight off the sideline, no?

...Either way, I would be way more interested in Kendall Wright if we were trading down for receivers.

Irvin was a playmaker. Sanu is a consummate possession receiver. 115 receptions, 10 YPC, 7 TDs, and a longest catch of 32 yards validates that. We need playmakers & scorers.

IMO it's possible Sanu "could" have a similarly productive career as those other guys if he's a #2 on a team with a solid #1, where as Blackmon & Floyd will likely be the #1 drawing the most coverage. IMO Wright would have a markedly more productive career in Miami opposite Marshall than Sanu ever will b/c Marshall is and will be our go-to guy whom our QB looks to in the crunch, not Sanu, so there's really no reason to draft him if you can't use him in the role that maximizes his potential & worth.

Marshall's gonna get his 100'ish catches; Sanu is not eating into that. So out of those other catches, they need to go for as many yards as possible, not 10 yards a pop, especially with Bess's already going for 10 yards per. I'll take Wright's 50+ catches for 1000 yards and 5-8 TDs over Sanu's 60 catches for 600 yards and 3-6 TDs.... and I'll also take the positive net impact Wright's presence has on our TE, 3rd or 4th receiver, & backs on dump offs etc especially during high-low stretch plays that Sanu would be less to ineffective at.


It'd hypothetically be like the Packers drafting Sanu when Rodgers already has Nelson but no Jennings.
You're certainly not looking to take catches away from Nelson, and I seriously doubt Rodgers would give Sanu as many looks as a go-to guy with Nelson on the field. So that leaves you with an underutilized possession receiver while still lacking the big play threat of Jennings. Not a good move IMO. It'd make little sense from a production point of view, and I don't think it'd do us any favors in getting corners to play off more or keep the safeties back or more honest.

 

Great post.. Sanu would not be our Mike Wallace. If no trade down, blackmon is there I say take him but we just can't be reaching for a wide receiver in the first round this year

 

Roman, I watched Sanu.... and liked him very much. I even commented near the beginning of the season that he's impressive and looks like a 2nd rounder (which was a compliment that early w/o seeing all of his draft competition).

IMO Robert Meachem & Eddie Royal would be the ideal compliments to Marshall & our offense in general. I wouldn't think twice about adding those 2 and trading either Bess or Hartline for a pick.... or even keeping all 5 as a very impressive and well rounded corps. There'd be no reason to use a valuable 1st round pick if we did that, and we could instead use it to build the defense while giving Philibin a year to see what he can do with our Oline (that might be less talent impaired than we perceive).

 

i'm not a huge fan of royal but Meachem would be a VERY nice compliment to our offense. also i think our o-line is ok minus a RG I would def have Jerry be our starting RT next year.Remember we lost long for some time, and columbo was no better then ted ginn at RT.

 

I have not heard that, but unfortunately it would not surprise me given his history. He's the one on the left.

 

He's a physical beast, no doubt. Maybe he is one of those rare players that can play the wide receiver position at the NFL level despite having 4.65 speed. But if that's the case I still think he'd probably have to be kicked inside.

Given what Miami already has and what it needs, I have no interest in Sanu before the 3rd round.

 

Royal was misused in Denver for much of the time, and his production suffered...... however, in the slot where he belongs (rather than outside or as a decoy which was frequently the case), he's a stud and would be a great compliment to Marshall (as he was as a rookie when he was outstanding) and a good fit if we spread it out more IMO.

 

Alshon's body type sucks.
I can't wait to see how it morphs as his metabolism begins slowing and he keeps the same habits up. I'd stay away from him in the draft.

 

and even inside, we still need more speed IMO..... especially if we're keeping Fasano. IMO Sanu lining up next to Brandon does little to maximize Brandon's game, and IMO that should always be one of our top priorities---> finding ways to get [and keep] Brandon at a maximized 100% b/c IMO people too often get caught up in thinking that signing the player is enough, and once you have him, that's it, he's all good, and we can move on to something else. However, IMO, once you sign him you obligate yourself to making his production a priority.

I don't see Sanu fitting into that. I think Meachem, Kendall & Jairus Wright, Royal, Joe Adams, Greg Childs (if he can ever get back to 100%), or whomever else you feel fits that mold. If I couldn't get one of those guys, I wouldn't force a pick and would instead settle for a late round WR while letting Gates continue to develop.

 

What about broyles? Think he would be a nice late round try??

 

Absolutely, there would be a certain point at which Broyles becomes too good to pass up.

 

I think it comes down to being the first person in a certain round to pull the trigger b/c a lot of teams will be thinking the same way we are IMO.... so it might be smart to move up our 5th to the #1 spot just in case. (or whichever round you think he goes in)

 

Wouldn't that bring another posession receiver, the guy has the same speed as Brian Hartline.

 

I didn't realize Hartline wasn't expendable, but rather is an integral component of our offense's future. :dunno:

We'd still need a possession receiver, one that isn't always running barefoot across an ice rink and who has a greater potential to score.

And Brian doesn't have to be the one leaving. Broyles could replace Bess. I don't discriminate, an upgrade is an upgrade.... and then we could still upgrade Hart at flanker with a maturing Gates or perhaps Meachem.

I've never said an offense needs to be all about speed, only stated that it needs balance, harmony, and all the parts need to compliment each other. Tweak a few things and Broyles is a good fit, however I wouldn't tweak anything around Hartline or Bess; it's tweaked around Marshall. Hart & Bess are afterthoughts. Everything is about what compliments Marshall, our QB, and our scheme. Broyles is a better start IMO than Hart or Bess, and if it hypothetically costs a 5th rounder, I'll gladly take it.
