Somebody alert air traffic control around BWI: the Ravens have dropped off the radar screen!
First there was the punishing 23-20 loss at New England, then they battled into overtime to escape with a 37-34 victory over the winless Bills, and then they sat at home to ponder the future with a bye on Halloween.
We like Baltimore to blip back into the national consciousness soon. Remember, they played four of their first six games on the road, including visits to AFC powers Jets (win), Steelers (win) and Patriots (loss).
Yet they’ve still emerged with a solid 5-2 record, even if they did appear to fizzle out before the bye.
Miami has faced a substantially similar slate, but it hasn’t gone as well, with losses to the Jets, Steelers and Patriots – all of them at home.
Curiously, the Dolphins remain unbeaten on the road, albeit against a weak slate (Bills, Vikings, Packers, Bengals).
Believe it or not, they also have a higher overall ranking in our Hog Indices: Miami ranks 5 and 6 in DHI/OHI respectively; Baltimore ranks 18 (yes, bottom half of the league in DHI) and 12.
Neither team has a make-or-break performer at quarterback. So look for the ‘Fins to keep it closer than the experts think.
Baltimore 24, Miami 23
