It helps when you can handle the snap and at least make a throw. Beck is a long way off compared to Trent Edwards and Troy Smith. Ballers show up on Sundays they don't take years to develop!

I watched Peytons first year and even though he threw a lot of interceptions he also moved his team down field. Beck is far from how Peyton played his first year.

 

Peyton also had Marshall Faulk.

Rookie QBs take time to develop, period. There is only one Dan Marino. Everyone else had to learn the position, and struggled early.

everyone wants to believe in beck : the truth is, he is skinny as a rail, almost a midget who couldn't move the offense down the field at all. his big thing was his poise and accuracy, i didn't see the accuracy at all. all beck will do in this leauge is be a ty detmer ...a back up they are very similar in size and ability the dolphins made a mistake when drafting him. troy smith is better .

 

Saying we need to draft a QB is not necessarily giving up on Beck. Giving up on Beck would mean cutting him. I havent seen one poster advocate cutting Beck. Beck hasn't shown any special skills that would make one believe he's going to be anything more than a Brian Griese or Rex Grossman. Hopefully he develops into Drew Brees or Trent Green but its a legitimate position to want to hedge our bets in case this development doesnt take place and draft another QB

 

Agree and Beck would have benefited having Ronnie in the backfield. A good running back is a QB's best friend.

 

Thing is, rarely any team drafts another quarterback "just in case". Not in the first three years anyway. And with other needs all over this team, I'd much rather spend that pick on weapons to help Beck (like a tight end) or youth on the defense (like a lineman and/or defensive back).

 

Maybe you should go back and watch the first game that Troy Smith came in. So what if they throw ints at least they can handle the snap from center. I could deal with some interceptions but when the guy can't even get the ball out of his hands thats a different story. You must be Becks cousin or something. I am not saying get rid of Beck but we need more options then Trent Green and Cleo. If you think there is nothing wrong with our current QB's then it is you that doesn't know what they are talking about.

Who is going to QB this team?? Apparently Beck is still a couple of years away according the patience preachers. If there is somebody more ready now with a bigger upside, why not take him??

You sit their on your high horse with your prerecorded "I told you so's" yet all you are really saying is that you don't care to address the team number 1 need. So go ahead, tell us I told you so in April, we'll have 5 YEARS to do the same.

 

The bottom line is Beck is not even remotely close to having a clue. Granted the team around him is lacking talent but even so he should have showed at least a little promise. All the Beck backers are having a hard time seeing how little he progressed in the amount of time he had to prove himself. I`m not saying we should give up just yet but we should be weighing our options just in case his early ineptitude is no fluke. Beck showed nothing when handed the starting role. If he did show the least bit of hope he`d still be the starter. I say we draft a QB and let them battle it out. If Beck shows he`s the real deal then great if not we have to have a "plan B".

 

How is it you can say Ryan isn't the answer for sure, but Beck is. Why can you evaluate Ryan (or any of the other QB you state we won't take) before he takes a NFL snap, but you need more time for Beck?? Seems too hypocritical to me. If you can evaluate one that easily, then you can evaulate the other. Beck=Grossman Period.

Your last statement is why we need to draft a QB. If we are going to bring Beck back (and we probably are), we need to sign a couple of discarded veterans and draft a QB.

JB might be the answer, but what if hes not? I'd rather draft a QB on day one of the draft to start developing just in case. And if the QB we draft this year is better than Beck, great, see ya John, have fun being a missionary. If Beck is better, we can either keep the rookie or trade him next year.

I think if we select a qb in the draft it shouldn't be any earlier than the 4th or 5th pick. This team has way to many needs. The qb position is important but not at the expense of the teams future let beck compete next year and win the job. bring in a free agent qb. If you picka qb high then your just making the turn around take that much longer. because he wont have enough playmakers around him BTW beck is listed as 6'2" 216lbs. doesn't sound skinny and frail to me.

also beck had our lousy wr to thrown to. they couldn't get open if they tired. alos a lousy line that couldn't blockyour grandma. No running game, sounds like a recipie for disaster to me. frankly you thought he was just gonna lite it up did you. frankly I am glad you guys dont evaluate talent forthis team.

 

Light it up?? No, but I did expect to see a QB with enough instinct to show something positive. Tell me what you saw in Beck in the four games he started to make you believe we`re set at QB?

 

Quarterback isn't just important it's the MOST important position out there. We're not going to win a Super Bowl with a mediocre quarterback.

 

Pocket poise, good decision-making, a strong arm, learns from mistakes, durability.

Beck needs to get used to the speed of the NFL. The Steelers and Eagles games probably lured him into a false sense of how the NFL works.

 

I don't think Beck will be the starter next season. I see Parcells bringing in a vet much like Cam did with Trent Green. If Green rebounds healthwise, it might even be Green, but I doubt it. Parcells will bring in a Kitna-like guy. I know the pickings are slim but there could be players involved in a draft day deal. CK mentioned Todd Collins as a guy we may see on the Fins. Parcell is a bigtime mover and shaker. He will move and shake a starting quality QB onto the Miami Dolphins. Beck will handle the clipboard. No matter who it is, passblocking must be vastly improved. @ new reciever and an upgrade at tight end. If I post this again we can dance to it!

 

I can see drafting a QB who may slide back in the draft, there are 4 or 5 Qb's who are NFL type talent, if a Woodson slides infront of us in say the 3rd round, it would be tough to pass on him....

 

why because everything i said was true ? if it is not then make a legit argument . he is skinny, he is small ,and he hasn't led us down the field once ...make an argument. you can have blind optimism if you want but from what he has shown and taking into account his size and age he is a stop gap player.a career backup like his idol ty detmer i wish i was wrong but the only little guy to have success is drew brees and he looks bigger than beck and don't say flutie cause he was a career backup as well i wish i was wrong about beck i really do i listened to all his pre-draft interviews etc. he sounded really smart and confident but i just don't see it happening. maybe i'm wrong ...maybe

I pretty much agree with you. IMO we can criticize Beck and assume the worst. People conveniently forget Beck was sold to the fans as a mature and intelligent guy with NFL type skills. He however doesn't appear to live up to that billing. I would be willing to give him a full pass this year if he were 23 like Troy Smith and Brady Quinn or 24 years old like Derek Anderson, Jay Cutler, Tarvaris Jackson, Trent Edwards, Vince Young, Matt Leinhart OR even 25 like Jason Campbell, Ben Roethlisberger, Phillip Rivers. But he is 26 years old which places him as a middle aged QB and not a young QB like he is treated as. And these are all things that Cam and Randy should have thought about when drafting him and now its time to catch the heat for not thinking about these things.
