Who has a theory on why the flag moves?

I've never really heard a good explanation on why the flag appeared to be flapping in the breeze. I also don't understand why we've never been back in recent years if we were able to do it in the early 60's. Surely with today's technology there's more we could learn from the moon, right?
I'm not usually big on conspiracy theories, but I have to admit, I have some doubts as to whether or not the moon landing actually happened. -

A flag cannot flap in a vacuum.
BUSTED
The Build Team placed a replica of the American flag planted on the moon into a vacuum chamber at the Marshall Space Flight Center. They first tested at normal pressure and manipulated the flag. The momentum moved the flag around but the motion quickly dissipated. In vacuum conditions, manipulating the flag caused it to flap vigorously as if it were being blown by a breeze. This demonstrated that a flag could appear to wave in a vacuum, as the Apollo flag did.

I've been to Parkes Radio telescope in the backblocks of Australia.
It was at a time when one of these fake-umentaries had been shown on TV. They had one of the older scientists there talk about it.
His response was "we pointed this" *points at 1,000 ton radio dish*
"at that" *points to gibbous moon on the western horizon*
"and got the moonlanding transmission".
If anyone thinks they've got enough money to pay off cranky old semi-retired Australian astronomers, I'd like to see some of it. -
Is this the same guy from the other site that tried to prove that we didn't go to the moon? Think it was like 2 yrs ago, thread got long as hell and nothing anyone said could convince him. This guy will end up trolling it.... Nothing u can say to people that believe that we didnt go to the moon. Like how we got all the moon rocks back that we have, or the laser reflector, they always ignore those facts that will prove them wrong in the end.

What I hypothesize is that a fifty percent slow-motion was used in Apollo 11 to simulate lunar gravity. Later, they improved their methods of simulating lunar gravity and started using a combination of slow-motion and support wires. The slow-motion in the later missions might not have been exactly half-speed. It might have been sixty five or seventy percent of natural speed. It looked better but it was inconsistent with Apollo 11 footage. The inconsistency is apparent.
At around the 21 minute mark of this video the above footage from Apollo 11 can be seen played at double speed.

When the Apollo 11 footage is doubled, the movements look natural. This makes it very clear that they used a simple fifty percent slow-motion to simulate lunar gravity in Apollo 11 and a faster slow-motion (around 67 percent according to Jarrah White's calculations) combined with wire supports in the later missions.

If you look at the acceleration of the object that falls from the astronaut's backpack and the acceleration of the hammer and feather that fall, it's apparent that the there's a difference in the way gravity affects the objects.

This is real zero-gravity and they behave quite differently.
One possible explanation is that they were trying to fake zero-gravity in a diving plane and the plane wasn't diving fast enough at that point.

The shadow of the rod is proportionally longer than the shadow of the bag. Evidently, that's how they got those pictures of very dark shadows--they drew them.

Well, the moon actually does have an atmosphere. It has gravity, and so, an escape velocity that heavier gases can't achieve. Whether it's enough to cause enough stir to move that flag, I don't know. But, that may be a moot point, as the flag starts to move before he even passes it, and hence, before his "wake" could even disturb it.
My guess is that the astronaut, running in those clumsy boots, kicked up some soil or pebbles into the pole, or the flag itself.azfinfanmang likes this. -

Although, it obviously isn't the typical 32ft/sec/sec we are acustomed to, there is obviously a force involved. Space is defined as "perfect vacuum" but that is not accurate. Just like graphing to zero, it all depends on your resolution, and obviously, the surface of the moon is much further from "Perfect Vacuum" than deep outer space void of mass.

The thing is, there are people who will believe anything. Then they go find some nut's rantings on the net and help spread it like wildfire. Once this happens they all sound the same, and generally always ignore any kind of rational counter-argument in favor of spewing more links to batty sources.
In my time spent with 9/11 Conspiracy nuts, it was almost like they were all the same person. I could even anticipate some of the long-debunked responses from them based on the topic of discussion because of this. It was both amusing, and very sad. -

Mistakes have been made by hoax believers and they have been shown to be mistakes. This is an exapmple of a real mistake being correctly shown to be a mistake.

Pointing out that mistake doesn't disprove the hoax theory though as there's still the issue of whether the light source is natural, or not.
The rest of Mythbusters is just an attempt at damage-control to counter all the hoax evidence that's available on the internet now. Mythbusters puts forth alternative explanations for the anomalies but that doesn't make the anomaly go away. We just have another possible explanation.
There are a lot of government damage-control sites that claim to debunk the other anomalies. All they do is put forward alternative explanations and then consider them to be debunked as Mythbusters does.

I've never seen this explained satisfactorily.
Somebody post a piece of evidence that he or she thinks proves they went to the moon and we can talk about whether it's really proof. I've never seen any proof that the landings were real but I've seen a lot of proof that at least some of the footage was faked. Why would they fake just part of it if they really went?

There are a lot of people who make false and idiotic claims about Apollo pictures. They thus provide debunkers with much needed food.
Without this debunker food, they would have to address the real issues, something which they would rather avoid. These issues include:
Lack of star pictures,
Missing technical data,
Reliability issues.
But these are "soft" issues, that is, issues involving expected human behavior. In a topic as controversial as the Apollo program, only hard technical arguments have sufficient convincing power. Here are such issues:
Radiation,
Missing landing blast crater,
Missing sound,
Instantaneous craft kinematics.
Contrary to what a quick glance might lead you to believe, debunker sites such as Clavius do not properly address those issues. When they face debunker food or legitimate errors on the part of hoax theorists, they make well-reasoned arguments and show all their technical knowledge in a pedagogical manner.
Yet, strangely, on those above issues, their responses are not in line with what their competence as displayed in other answers might lead us to expect. They lack technical details and are instead full of handwaving, appeals to authority and fallacious reasoning, such as relying on NASA-provided measured radiation doses to prove that the passage thru the belts was not dangerous.

Recently, some people came up to me and said that I was full of BS, because to them, the Discovery Channel show "Mythbusters" blew the entire Apollo Hoax theory to pieces.
I have viewed the show, and my take on the "Mythbusters" is this: They are well paid by US government agencies to push through propaganda when necessary! It must be stated clearly that the Discovery Channel is well funded by US agencies, especially NASA! If you stop and think about it, the episodes about "busting the Apollo Hoax theory" were all conducted in NASA's own facilities! Also, it does not take a rocket scientist to realize that they had to "debunk" the Apollo Hoax, or have their show's funding from NASA cut off, and therefore be out of a job!
I therefore dismiss the Mythbusters for what they are... Propaganda experts, and shills for the government. They were even exposed for being used by the government when experts confronted them on their episode about RFID chips! If you dont believe me, go ahead and google "Mythbusters RFID episode exposed" for yourselves. You will see clearly how they had to tow the line, or else! -
You're going about it wrong. The burden of proof is on you. The established evidence -- film, photograph, eyewitness and other historical record -- is that we did go to the moon. Until there is a definitive piece of counter-evidence that cannot be shot down, the moon landing is fact.

In reply #37 I put forward some evidence that has yet to be satisfactorily explained. The flag moved when the astronaut trotted by it. He was too far away to touch it. No dust was visible. The flag moved slightly away from the astronaut before moving toward him which rules out static electricity.
Even the people at Clavius can't come up with an explanation for it.

I've never seen anything that wasn't fakeable. I tried to talk about this at Clavius. I got banned for thirty days at for using non-Apollo info to further my argument that the government is capable of telling gigantic lies.

What about all of the people who watched and listened to it at home? I am not talking about television. People watched from their telescopes and listened with their, well whatever they used. I am not an knowledgeable of what can be used to intercept nasa signals.
Also the flag waving only makes sense if the person presenting it is actually someone who is a scientist and not someone who learned about science in highschool.
I can think of a two reasons off of the top of my head, solar winds. The idea that space is a vacuum is also not totally true. The idea that we are outside of the sun is also not exactly true either. We are actually in the suns atmosphere.
Also gravity could cause the flag to move. The flag has mass and the sun and earth have each gravitational pulls. Hell the moons gravitational pull pulls the entire ocean and if the moon wasn't there, it would be caused by the sun.Celtkin likes this.
