Tough question RBT, did you catch any vibes beforehand that your first choice may not want to go to the prom with you?

 

If you like this girl, make an effort to get to know her mom a bit, even if it's just saying "hi" and exchanging small talk. If the mom still has a problem with it, hang out with this girl instead of dumping her for another date. In the long run, going to the prom will mean nothing to you, but if you really like this girl, you'll be happy that you spent the night hanging out with her.

I'm not sure why the mom won't let you go to the prom but she'll let you guys hang out. Maybe suggest that she drives the two of you there just to ease her mind? :confused2:

 

Go ask her Mom personally if you can take her daughter to the prom.

Bring the prom to her. Bring your tux, some music, some balloons, corsage, and a camera. Tell them both that going to the prom without her was meaningless to you, and you felt bad she had to miss it. Even rent a limo to take you guys out to eat then back to the house first.

The mom will trust you forever and the girl will swoon.

 

Just present yourself as a really nice guy. I'm sure if you dress well, talk softly, and look clean she'll change her mind.

I hate to bring it up, but it could be a financial issue... With her not being able to go to the prom with you, but she can and still wants to hang out with you after Prom thats what it says to me.

As a guy I have no clue how much prom dresses cost, but I think $100.00 is the minimum you can find one for and $200-$300 is average. With the economy in the dumps that could be the reason.

 

i'd go with the other girl. hope your first choice understands and then hang out with first choice on another day.

I'm married to a Latin gal, and they are very particular about a man being decent, so to speak. I can't explain how I passed the test, but in any case, come off as a complete gentleman, address Mom properly, hide the lust in your eyes when she's around and try to establish a rapport that will make her feel at ease with you. I've been married for 5 years and my Mom in Law still tries to cockblock me, so it's not easy, but it can be done.

 

Chill with the girl.

Prom is over-rated and stupid.

The after parties that night and over the weekend is what makes prom great. The actual prom dance itself is ******ed.

 

Perhaps mom wants to try out the young buck first, to see if he's worthy? Hmmmmm............

RBT, go with that. And don't go with the "I'll pay for your dress" thing; it will just embarrass the girl if money is an issue.

 

If you don't wear a tux, at least wear a nice looking suit. The girl and her mom will be extremely impressed that you took the time and effort to look nice, instead of showing up in your Jake Long jersey and sweatpants. ;)
