You still draft a QB. Moore is under contract for next year so there is no cost to keeping him.

If he plays really well you can make a decision in another year, maybe even trade him.

But we are a long way away from that. Until Moore does this for another six games, and then an entire season next year, I'm not holding my breath on his being the "answer"

 

You still need to draft a QB in the first round, and if needed, trade up to get the guy you are targeting. At best Moore will be a Chad Pennington type player, who will never be at the elite level we need to win a championship. Plus, we need someone to groom and to step in if Moore gets injured- We all witnessed the drop off when Penington hurt his shoulder.

 

You don't evaluate a QB by his rating. In the last game, for example, Moore threw a pass right into the LB's hands at the goal line and it was dropped. His rating would be considerably lower if you added an INT and a took away a TD pass he got on the next play, but his actual play would be the same. I'm not saying he hasn't played well, just that people are over-estimating how well he's played b/c of the ratings and b/c they feel good about the wins. IMO Moore isn't playing as well as Henne played the first three games of the year, but nobody recognizes that b/c they're focused on the offensive/team results rather than the QB play itself.

 

Build up his trade value and trade him for a 3rd pick.

 

Cross that bridge when we come to it. Just keep in mind he's played 7 games and really only played well in 2 of them.

Matt Moore is not likely to develop into an all-pro QB, no matter what the last three weeks have shown. Even if he finishes with a QBR of over 100 on the year, you draft a 1st round QB.

 

Unless the guy turns in to a Drew Brees clone than we have no choice but to go QB round 1.. Even if he does continue to mature and make plays, it doesn't hurt to have insurance at the position.. Just look at San Diego, even though one could argue that they would have been better off keeping Brees..

 

Draft QB. Let them compete.

 

As has been said, you still have to draft a QB. You keep Moore around to compete with him and either warm the seat till the new guy is ready or back him up.

 

I haven't seen anything out of Moore that would make me change my mind about targeting a QB as my #1 priority in this draft. And if he played exactly as well as he has the last three games over the next six, that wouldn't change my mind.

 

We ride him all the way to multiple SBs... or at least until the last year of his uber-cheap contract while Barkley/RG/Jones develops.

 

we're not getting barkley. the other ones are more likely to bust. I'd rather see another whole filled if our guy is not there and I don't want our whole draft traded for one player, especially if we keep this bum *** coach.

 

Actually Pennington has had a better 3 game stretch than Moore's.

Filling another hole will be most likely irrelevant in terms of impact until we find that QB. The other QBs may be more likely to bust by comparison (I see that as debatable), but that's not the same as saying they are likely to bust. This draft has more than two QBs who are likely enough to succeed that they're worthy of first round picks.

one dude had it right. henne didn't play poorly, the team played poorly. henne has the better arm, henne is the better quarterback. Wins and losses aren't the only thing you should look at. The running game was non existent, the play calling was horrible, minus about 80 percent of the NE game... look at the defense. Henne did more than enough to beat the pats but our D was horrible and the defense is the main reason we've won 3 in a row along with playing bad teams. moore will never have the game like henne did week 1. he just doesnt have the talent.

 

You let him compete with the QB we draft in the 1st round.

 

Keep Henne and Moore, draft a quarterback in the first round and let the competition begin.
My one fear is that Moore continues to play well and then the powers that be decide they can wait to the 2nd round or beyond to draft a quarterback. Letting all of the top tier quarterbacks get drafted in the first round.
The only true success this team has ever enjoyed came as a result of starting quarterbacks that were drafted in the 1st round. Earl Morrall who subbed for Griese while he was injured was even a 1st round selection by the 49ers. I know there is no guarantees that any quarterback that is drafted in the first round will be a franchise quarterback, but its time we tried something different because what we have been doing for years just hasn't worked. Maybe it is luck, fate or whatever, but its the one thing we haven't tried.

 

Henne is not better than Moore. In fact, Henne actually completely blows. The only QB's he might be better than are Tarvaris Jackson, Curtis Painter, and whatever scrubs started for KC and Arizona last week.

As for Pennington, prior to his injuries (which is the "what if" that was being discussed), he had just started on a consistent basis for the first time in his third year. That year he put up the following stats:

CP was injured during the preseason the following season. If he had not been injured and was able to continue to put up numbers like that for enough years, there is no question that he would have been a HOF QB. I stand by my contention that had CP not had the injuries he was arguably a HOF QB.

 

I agree. Henne's best move is to go elsewhere where he may get a fair shake.

 

I think there are empty stats at times. I think what separates the two quarterbacks at this point is two fold. First, the article I linked in the club level shows that this team is 100% behind Matt Moore. They believe in him. IMO, I don't think this team has ever been convinced that Chad Henne is the guy to lead them. Second, when you look at the situational numbers, Matt Moore is better. On third and long, Moore has completed 78% of his throws for a 115 rating. Chad Henne completed 33% of his throws for a 47.2 rating. Matt has completed 61% of his throws in the redzone for an 88 rating and 6 TDs. Henne completed 38% of his throws in the redzone for a 66.1 rating and 4 TDs. Moore is more accurate on intermediate throws.

 

The leadership part is not measurable. It is possible that Moore has more leadership, but I don't know. As for the other stats, those aren't solely on the QB. I recall Marshall dropping TDs early at a greater rate. Bess started the year off with drops and didn't ever seem to beat any defender. The TEs weren't being used in the passing game much so those easier throws weren't available. There is more but the point is the stats are indicative of an offense developing, but not necessarily better QB play. When I watched those games Henne was running for his life. According to CNN/SI, Henne was under pressure for 24 attempts in those first 3 games and some of the 4th (just 4 attempts in that game). By contrast Moore has been under pressure 25 times in his 7 games.

 

Penny is one of my all time favorite dolphins. That is saying a lot considering he was a Jet, but he was always a classy guy. I wish his shoulder would have held up a little longer. I am amazed how that freak accident happened when he first returned.

 

I don't think you have to have all the intangibles or have the strongest arm to be a great QB. I would say that is why the obvious chioce 1st QB taken does not become the best QB of the draft a considerable amount of the time. With that being said, I do feel that the team is giving better effort for Moore than Henne. I also believe that is for a reason. There have been touch passes that I have never seen Henne throw. Why the hell did this turn into that debate again anyways.

If Moore kicks *** for the majority of the rest of the year, you draft a first round QB and he sits on the bench next year. We would be stupid not to start him Moore next year if his play continued.

Reading all these posts, it makes me wonder if the New England Patriots asked the same questions when Drew Bledsoe went down for the season in 2001 and their 6th round draft pick in Tom Brady came in off the bench?

Is Matt Moore, Tom Brady? Don't know, but then again...no one knew Tom Brady was Tom Brady until he kept winning.

 

Obviously I'm not saying we will ever have a Farve. With that being said, if our guy keeps winning, why not have a talented guy on the bench waiting. I guess I'm just in awe of how the Packers worked things out. We still draft high and still play the guy that is winning. If Brady went down again next week, is Bill really good enough to keep them winning with who they have now. Sorry, the question mark just gave up on my computer.

 

I think you draft a Qb high in the next draft regardless of how Moore plays. Even if we think Moore is the guy he hasn't played consistently enough in the NFL, and he's been playing for a few years, to be anointed the franchise guy. It only makes sense to draft a legitimate talent. Best/worst case scenario, Moore stinks and the young guy gets his shot or Moore is great and the young guy gives us a talented backup and potential trade bait. Its worth the draft pick investment to ensure that the position is solved next year. If its Moore, great, extend his contract after next season and keep grooming the rook behind him. The position is too important to have one injury destroy your team (colts). We should have been investing quality picks in the Qb position for years, good teams always have a Qb grooming behind their starter.

 

I am all for drafting a 1st QB this season, although some of my posts may have been miscontrued on the topic. I was just adamantly against tanking the season to go after "one guy" when our team had/has so many problems that drafting a Joey Harrington, Matthew Stafford, Alex Smith et al wasn't going to be the solution to fixing our team.

I just think that should Moore keep playing at this level for the remainder of the season, high percentage of passes completed, scoring touchdowns, managing the game, etc, then it would appear your QB position has been solidified. Build on that during the offseason. With the way the Dolphins are playing right now, the only thing I find suspect is the offensive line, maybe the receiving corp and maybe the defensive secondary, with the main emphasis on the offensive line.

Tonight I'll actually be able to watch Miami play. Thank God AFN shows Thanksgiving Day games, so I'll actually be able to see with my own eyes what the team does.

I'm hoping for the long term of our team, this 3 game streak hasn't been just a fluke. I hope we can indeed win out or damned close to it. It's a hell of a lot easier to plug a few holes in the offseason than it is to rebuild an entire team with top 10 draft picks year after year after year. Detroit, Oakland and Jacksonville have been doing that the past decade and Detroit is the only one of those three that's starting to show any promise of "Sucking for [[insert name here]]" starting to pay dividends.
