Every expert on the planet has behind the jets and pats in the division and as we stand now i agree.Who can we pick up to turn the tables or do we just need better play calling on offence and hope the qb play moves from the bottom of the league to the middle at least.

IMO we won't catch/pass the Pats/Jets until they find a QB who can take over a game and is consistent. Sadly we won't be able to get one until next draft.

1) Pray Chad Henne becomes the next Drew Brees story. Without that the rest is irrelevant but I digress and will continue anyway...
2) Rework Paul Soliai's contract in to a long term deal freeing up money for this year. Need more cap space.
3) Sidney Rice or Santonio Holmes. Need a playmaker and Im not sold we have one. Love both these cats; Rice being younger makes him especially appealing. I'd even settle for a Braylon Edwards or Steve Smith (Carolina)
4) Ahmad Bradshaw or DeAngelo Williams
5) Manny Lawson (kick Misi inside; Crowder becomes 3rd LB at a reduced rate)
6) If there's still money left Harvey Dahl at RG -

Continue to build the O-line, Pouncey was a great step in building. Hang on to Incognito- he is nasty. We need a G, I do like the Leonard Daivs.
Get Orton. Orton doesn't break the bank, but brings in a top 20 QB in the league. Its a step forward....HONESTLY, a top 20 guy is a step forward for us. Orton can win games for us.
Save money on RB by signing a solid, functional back
Then take the money not spent on a sexy RB, and go get Nick Barnett. Adding Barnett would make out LB corps something to be feared.
That would definitely put us at or with the Jets, and gives us a fighters chance to compete with the Pats. Plus- Jets could loose Edwards and possibly (hopefully) Holmes....LT is done, and Shon Greene has a lot to prove.... -
I don't think we overtake them until we:
1) Get a better OC than Daboll
2) Get a better QB coach than David Lee, or a blue-chip veteran QB who can ignore David Lee
I honestly think we're good enough on paper. It's the coaching at this point. -

Bradshaw and a QB (Orton or Young for me) to compete with Henne would be the top two pieces.
I actually think it would be awesome to land next, Santonio Holmes. He is still in his prime. He's a big play WR. And, it would be a major steal from the Jets. A +2 signing, relative to the Jets. Doubt we have the chutzpah to do that - they just don't have that, so it won't happen. But, I think it would be a major plus. It would also show fans we are aggressive and not satisfied with 9-7.
But, I like Aqua's suggestions. -
Probably Dorrell, right? The only guy on the staff who may do a WORSE job than Lee was doing! -

You want to catch up to the Jets?
Sign Santonio Holmes, Brad Smith, Braylon Edwards, and everytime we play them make all of our players on the bench go thru the game with no shoes... -

I saw a blurb that Yanda is signing back with the Ravens.
Personally, I think we need a new running back (Bradshaw, Williams), another pass catching tight end (Todd Heap would be good to kick the tires on) and of course, safety/offensive line help. -

Well we have "caught" the Jets, it is the Bills and Pats that give us problems, we should sweep the Bills, but don't, we should split with the Pats, but were swept.
ST/better running game/improved Qb play/Defense capitalizes on turnover chances. -
