Ross just released a statement that the GM will have "autonomous control of the 53 man roster." The GM "will answer to him." The GM must "put team first, have integrity, and work well with Coach Philbin."
From the Dolphins twitter feed.
Again, what's the confusion about? What is the "power structure" nonsense about? What is this "set up to fail" nonsense about? Seems simple...and typical/ideal to me.

Did he literally just release it? If so, good. Hopefully it'll clear things up for some people. However it may still be a question of does Aponte answer to the GM. For instance if the GM wants a player and issues a get it done order can she tell him no? Full autonomous control sounds like that wouldn't be the case, but can't say for certain.

Autonomous control of the 53 man roster. Answers only to Ross.

Good news. Hope this is the end of the speculation.
Interviews starting tomorrow. We had a list of names of people being interviewed, and for now I haven't seen Tom Gamble, Marc Ross or Alonzo Highsmith on any of those. I wonder if it is because Ross does not plan to interview them or they simply have not been contacted yet. Also possible that not all the candidates names have been made public yet. -

Should cool down some of the rumors about Aponte being Julius Caesar.
Edit. Didn't see the other thread about it. Please merge. I apologize.Da 'Fins, smahtaz, Bpk and 1 other person like this. -
I encourage all of us, while these searches continue, to be skeptical of the following reporters: Armando, Omar, Cole, LaConfra, Florio, Beasley, Mort and any national guy who refers to any of the local guys mentioned. These guys are either consistently wrong (Mort, Kelly), seriously compromised in the integrity department (Armando, Cole, LaConfra, Florio) or appears to have a personal issue with someone on the team (Beasley). If the news comes from any of their Twitter accounts, be extra skeptical.
Guys who are trustworthy, Darlington, Volin, James Walker, sometimes Hyde & Barry Jackson and any national guy NOT referring to the above guys.
Oh and our very own Section 126. His reports are pretty trustworthy....except when he tells you which reporters are good. -

A bunch of reporters fabricating stories to sell more advertising, business as usual for them.
We should be used to this after Martin-Incognito saga. After the media created a story, the public outrage ensued. Of course when FACTS came out, we haven't really heard much about it since.Zippy, Colorado Dolfan, Sumlit and 1 other person like this. -

In a way though, Ross brought this on himself. If he knew how to run his franchise better, statements like this wouldn't be necessary, ya know?

GM Candidate: "One question Mr. Ross...will I have the authority to make a change at head coach after a year?"
Ross: "No, Joe Philbin will be my call and my call only."
GM candidate: "Okay, well thank you Mr. Ross for your time and consideration, but I think I'll pass."
wash, rinse, repeat until we get to the 6th or 7th guy on our owner's wishlist.
hopefully this won't be the case.Bpk likes this. -

How many teams have a GM that can fire the coach?
Do you think the GM will fire the coach on a whim? How about Ross, will he fire the coach just for the heck of it, has he shown a history of firing people willy-nilly?Fin D and Sethdaddy8 like this. -
Ross took his time to make his decision, have you ever fire anyone, cause if you did I hope you took your time to make sure they needed to go.Fin D likes this. -

This myth that GM's have the power to fire the head coach needs to be quelled and should have already been quelled.
No GM in this league can fire the head coach without the owner's approval.
Do some of you seriously think Trent Baalke can fire Jim Harbaugh because of their power struggle? No, because that call is on Jed York, not Trent Baalke.
Ozzie Newsome can't fire John Harbaugh if he wanted to. Only Steve Biscotti has that power.
Phil Emery couldn't fire Lovie Smith when he first came in. Dave Gettleman couldn't fire Ron Rivera. John Idzik couldn't fire Rex Ryan.
AJ Smith couldn't fire Norv Turner in San Diego. Dean Spanos fired them both. Even Bill Polian said on NFL Radio yesterday that most GM's have a list of coaches that changes every 6 months or so that they will submit to ownership if a coaching change needs to be made. Even Bill Polian couldn't unilaterally fire the head coach.
The folks on here that continue to think this will be a sticking point have no idea how this league is run and no idea of the power structure each NFL team has.Ducken, LiferYank, Rocky Raccoon and 5 others like this. -
