What Laptop for under 1000.00 would you recommend?

If all you want to do is surf the internet yes it is very, very possible. We have a laptop (and by we I mean everyone who lives here that isn't me) that has 3G of RAM and a pretty big hard drive. it was like 600/700. It's a dell, which I absolutely despise, but it works like a charm.

The only computer I have ever bought is a Gateway so my loyalty lies with them. The only other gateway I saw from there was like a 13 inch screen. So I picked the 16''. This has 3G of ram and 300 some G hard drive.. way more than enough to surf the web :up:

I can't recommend a laptop to be used strictly for websurfing, but that site always has great deals on laptops. I am sure you could find a great one for under $1k.

for the most bang for your buck if you only shop at Costco. You can find a lot more selections at a Best Buy (if you want to shop at a brick and mortar store) or online. One of the more common brands I've had to fix at the UCLA Store were Toshiba and HP. Pretty much one out of every 4 were those brands. If you steer clear of those, you'll be able to find a good laptop. I would highly recommend Sony, Dell, Lenovo, or Apple (if you can find an affordable one).

It won't win any awards but it's solid and most important is that it's XP Pro - not that horrible vista crud and it's a business model laptop, not a consumer model so it doesn't come pre-loaded with all kinds of crap you don't need.

The main specs each of em have (Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 250-320GB) ought to be standard for that price range of <$1000. It's actually a good time to get a laptop under $1000 right now. That top Sony one with BD for under $1k is a really good deal.

I could get 2 good laptops for $1000 if you only wanted to web surf. I just bought a pretty good Dell that is comparable to the 2nd post in this thread for less than $600.

You could get an iPhone and surf the web for $200 ;)

Brother Celtkin helped me with my last home purchase, but he is busy right now and I didn't want to bother him.
