Some of the more interesting things I've found about him...
1. He's small at only about 5'9" and probably 180-190 lbs.
2. He's not fast on a straight line basis, estimated about a 4.60.
3. He had to transfer from Iowa to Northern Iowa because of behavior issues, though I don't know exactly what they were.
4. He was considered Iowa's top corner when that happened.
5. People at Northern Iowa consider him a success story as far as accepting guys that got kicked out or had to transfer out of other better programs, he mended his ways while there.
6. Yet that hot-headed quality of his has shown up in the NFL as he's gotten some anger management penalties with the Chiefs and Vikings.
7. He has played mostly slot CB in the NFL, but started on the outside for 7 games for the Vikings in 2009.
8. He has returned kicks in the NFL, but doesn't have a good average, something like 17 or 18 yards on 12 returns.
9. The slot position doesn't typically require straight line speed, I thought I'd just throw that in there, because no matter what you always have help over top.
10. He's regarded as a really good tackler, a guy that will lay the wood into people, compared with Antoine Winfield a lot.
11. For his two years in Minnesota, during his games where he played part-time as a slot CB, he allowed 6.8 yards per attempt, 9.4 yards per catch with 5.5 of that after the catch, 1 TD and 2 INTs with 3 PDs.
12. He performed a little worse when asked to bump to the outside in place of Winfield, about 8.7 YPA and 12.4 YPC (6.9 of it YAC), 3 TDs, 0 INTs and 2 PDs during those games he started. Obviously he's capable of playing inside and outside but I think you want to keep him as an inside guy especially with him lacking speed. Miami has no shortage of outside guys.
13. He started both of Minnesota's playoff games, but got abused by New Orleans for 2 TDs.
14. Minnesota fans are all doom and gloom about this trade, they liked Sapp and can't believe they gave him up to get Camarillo.
15. He's a core STs player. Don't assume Jason Allen is 100% safe. Guys that are there purely for STs never are.

He's a Florida guy, by the way.
4.60 speed. Sweet
Iowa to Northern Iowa; "movin' on up!"
Known for personal foul penalties. Awesome
Sometime around 2002, he was regarded as the top cornerback... in Iowa. Yay -
Thanks for the info CK, seems like we made out well, though I hate losing Cammy but he should do well in Minny with Mr. Indecision: Favray throwing to him.
-
Smells like extra Will Allen insurance to me, as in an extra nickel CB to start the season off if Allen's not ready soon. Thanks for the scouting report CK.

I DON'T LIKE HIM AND I DONT CARE!!!WAA WAA!! ME NO NOS LIKEY.
anyways, iam excited to see our young big fast receivers step up their game in Greg's absense....I'll do the comparisons only when I see Sapp on our field in real game situations.Shamboubou likes this. -
Minny made out in the deal. We get an injury at WR and Cam would have been real important. That and his sure hands were the value. All that for a 5'-9" part time slot corner. I guess we needed him because will allen is toast. LOL to the people here that argued that WA would start because he would be healthy and he is the best corner we have. If we are trading a quality WR for a guy like Sapp he must be washed up. This was a dumb trade but I guess it was necessary.

Well, he is a STs core player, we need help there. He's insurance for the possibility of losing W. Allen or his not returning soon. Too bad he's not a returner... However, he'll probably see as much time as Cammy would have, especially if things don't work out as well for our young DBs.

Some info from a Vikes fan that you you may not catch else where.
When Sapp came to our team he made a lot of bone headed mistakes. He would flash greatness and then do something to cause a penalty. Over the last 2 years he has really lifted his game and cut down on the foolish mistakes.
We run mostly a cover 2. Which ask for our Cbs to be physical. Although he is small he plays well. He can stay with 75% of the WRs in this league and his name is rarely called for giving up a play. He plaed behind Winnie(Winfield) and Griffen. Outside of tackles, our scheme does not lend to a large amount of plays from our Cbs. You are getting a guy that was expected to start for us in place of Griffen. I wouldn't be surprise if he takes over the starting spot this season or next. He has just continue to improve when he is given the opportunity. Don't expect an 8 int lock down guy, do expect a guy that will make key tackles and breakups on 3rd downs.
It sounds like Greg is your version of Benny Sapp to us. A fan favorite who in the right system could be a very productive guy. I thing Greg will get more limelight than Sapp but Sapp will do more for you than greg will do for us. -
Or maybe they realize that with Bess, Hartline and Marshall that Camarillo would have been a #4 receiver who has already really reached his potential.
This in my opinion has little to nothing to do with Will Allen. The staff would rather keep one of the younger receivers who has loads more potential, and got value for Cam instead of flat out cutting him which wouldnt have made sense.Agua, azfinfanmang and NJFINSFAN1 like this. -
I personally think we made out on the deal, we traded a guy that was not going to see the field much, and get to keep 2 promising young wr's and pick up a vet DB that will play a lot.
It was a smart trade, we were all complaining about the secondary, the FO goes to try and fix it trading a back up. Sounds like it is good to me.baboo72, finyank13, Ronnie Bass and 7 others like this. -

This appears to be a win-win for both teams... I know little about Sapp, but we'll take someone who, if nothing more, can help teach our young DBs how to play the game...finyank13 likes this. -

Really not sure why people are so opposed to this.
David Martin is back. And judging from the preseason games, he's BACK back. Not just on the roster, but he looks like he did in 2008. That means the 2-TE set is back in the playbook. Henning loves the 2-TE set. Marshall will love 2-TE sets with David Martin working on his side. David Martin will love 2-TE sets with Brandon Marshall working to his side too. It's a win-win.
What does this do? The Dolphins had been sort of acknowledging that with as many WRs as they had and with as few TEs, they would be using the 2-TE set less, and going with more 3-WR sets.
I don't know if they believe that's been working out for them.
They have David Martin back and that's a real reason to run the 2-TE sets, even the 1-WR/2-TE sets that put Lou Polite on the field.
If you're running a lot of 2-TE stuff, even some 2-TE/2-RB stuff, you don't need a lot of bodies at the WR position. You don't. Not unless you anticipate guys getting hurt. Camarillo's the only WR with health problems (knock on wood).
I was pretty surprised at this trade too but I should have seen it coming. I was just thinking about and writing about the other day when I was reviewing the Jags game, how this team with David Martin in the fold HAS to start using those 2-TE sets the way they did in 2008 and 2009. Both Chad Pennington AND Chad Henne had their highest QB ratings out of the 2-TE set, and unlike 2009 when Joey "Light as a truck, stiff as a board" Haynos was the #2 TE, with David Martin in the fold we have good reason to run them again.
The reality is that Brandon Marshall will take every snap possible at the WR position. If he doesn't get 95% of the snaps there's something wrong. That in itself consolidates the previous four-man rotation at WR. With the Dolphins using more 2-TE and even 2-TE/2-RB stuff (think, WILDCAT...Pat Cobbs is healthy too)...we just don't need to be four-deep at the position. -
You also can't have too many solid CB's. Brady is still in our division, and no matter what you may think of Sanchez's future, he does have some solid weapons in Edwards, Cotchery, Holmes, Keller and LT as a 3rd down back.

CK, first... at the sig... I think it would be even funnier without the name tags. Q, do you think we'll roster 5 receivers on the 53 man group (given your theory on the two TE sets etc)?

Yep there I go again being right. Just wait. -
the only thing that sticks out to me is his size .... 5'9" is really small for this regime
it's not like they 'had' to trade CAM .... so he must show enough to 1- know that he will make the team, 2- contribute at a minimum of part time (nickel) and STs, 3- take over for Smith if he gets abused too much
with W Allen hurt and with a realatively inexperienced DBs .... they needed someone experienced to play nickel instead of Carroll (whom i am very high on) -- but can't take the risks that we did last year with Davis and Smith and hope to go deep into the playoffs.
much like Dobbins, this was a deliberate move to improve the team immediately .....Larryfinfan likes this. -

I find that funny b/c after I read your first 13 points, I felt "all doom and gloom about this trade" and "can't believe they gave up Camarillo to get Sapp." ! -
Terrible trade IMO. I just dont like it. You give up your best reciever last year for a backup CB / Special Teamer. Just doesn't freaking add up. There is nobody on this team I want to get the ball thrown to them on 3rd down that Greg C. They guy was clutch and caught everything. This trade is a travishamockery.

I'll feel a lot better if/when Will Allen returns healthy... -
I would be willing to say that if WA was healthy it might not have been Sapp he was moved for. It probably would have been a pick or player of another position. But IMO Cams best value was as a trade assett. -
