The Dolphins recently were looking at Harvey Unga, a RB from BYU and it made me wonder whether the Dolphins want to keep Brown.
I know he is a great running back, but the Dolphins still have Williams for a few years, and I think that Ricky will be able to last long enough for Miami to find a replacement back. What do you guys think?

Sign the player midseason...3 years, 12 to 15 million...continue what you started..The run takes place next year, and Imo Ronnie and Ricky will play major roles in that run.

I think we franchise Ronnie and look for a replacement. If we find one, we trade him, if not, we keep him for a year and repeat the process until we find someone suitable.gunn34 and Pandarilla like this. -

RW said he planned to retire after the 2010 season when he signed that one-year extension. Obviously, he could change his mind and we may want him back if he doesn't start looking old this year, but I don't see why you would say we still have Williams for a few more years.
As for Brown, it will be a money thing. The team will either sign him to a modest deal like the 3 for 15 mentioned above or they might just franchise him for one year and then let him go.dolfan7171 likes this. -
Ricky has been quoted as saying that when a running back hits 32 he loses his wheels. I think Ronnie will get his extension, but it will be interesting to see if Ricky's theory holds true.

It seems like some people write Ronnie Brown off every year whether it be him being injury prone, inconsistant, etc, etc. My guess is they will see if he can get through a season injury free before they offer him what he would like to get. An injury free season could also present the opportunity to sign him to a new contract and then trade. Another season with an injury would probably eliminate any chance of trading for anything much and increase the urgency for finding a replacement.

Honestly, I don't think it's anything to get too worried about. Raise your head up and look around the league. There are an awful lot of players who are in the same boat as Brown due to CBA, or lack thereof.
Once the NFL and players' union settle their differences, Brown will end up being given a chance to sign a multi year contract with the Dolphins. It'll be what our FO believes to be a fair offer; the rest is up to Brown.
However, first Ronnie is going to need to show that he is still able to be productive after this latest injury. I know most of us are expecting him to come back with no ill effects, but the FO doesn't have the same luxury as we have. IMO those two factors are delaying any real contract offer.HULKFish and Pandarilla like this. -
go after Harvey & keep Ronnie on a short lease
it's all about Ricky & Ronnie in 2010 -
I know you dont want to believe it... but hes gone. A 30 y/o RB with injury issues? We arent resigning him. Maybe franchise tag him and trade... or franchise tag and hold him for 1 more year... but we arent going to resign him... -
See how he does this season behind our improved OL, if he goes 1,700+ yards and stays healthy, THEN we give him a 3 year contract, no longer. And we draft Ricky/Ronnie's eventual replacement. If he won't take a 3 year contract, we put the franchise tag on him, then draft his replacement.
I love me some Ronnie Brown, but he is injury prone, not deniable even though they were all freak accidents.HULKFish likes this. -
There's a pervasive notion that we have a good idea what this FO will and won't do based on our perception of Parcells' actions in the past.
But what our FO has been doing here seems to be in direct contrast to all that.
In spite of the thought that Parcells hates players who can't seem to avoid injuries, how many players have we seen signed (and some resigned) who haven't been able to maintain long term health?
How about the notion that Parcells doesn't value CB's enough to draft one (not to mention two) very early?
Who can say that he really believed that this front office would be willing to give up 2 second round draft picks for a WR with the baggage that Brandon Marshall brings?
Again just my own opinion, but looking at what this FO has done while here and only here, I would say that Brown will be resigned - or I should say, given the opportunity to re-sign. It'll be up to him to decide if the money is enough to keep him here. -

It depends on how this season plays out.......
If we make a good run this year and even get close to a SB appearance AND Ronnie stays healthy and is a big part of that run..... then they'd be nuts not to re-sign him and keep moving forward with what we have.
He may get injured a little too much but he's not your everyday running back.... he might not be the best running back in the league, but IMO, he's deff the most dynamic and offers more to "our" style of offense than anyone I can think of that might replace him.LandShark13, late again and djphinfan like this. -
4 mill a year for this player aint sh$3 if he stay's healthy..
Please don't come back with an "if" answer...were projecting healthy, if he goes thru to midseason healthy.jetssuck, LandShark13 and late again like this. -
I don't think any talent evaluator or coach, or GM, would give up on a supremely talented player, who's talents are even heightened out of a formation that demands specific skills...which Ronnie brown has in spades..
There is no more effective running game the past 2 years in the nfl, then the ronnie brown led wildcat.. I can't understand Nasty why you would not want to see this thru, regardless of some injury risk -

he's perfect, available, is a fit & resolves the 2011 dilemma
while possessing the potential to contribute immediately
I fully expect Miami to be in the middle of the signing frenzy -

On the one hand he gets injured a lot. On the other hand we gave smiley and grove good money after they were injured a lot for other teams. One one hand this FO likes lunch pail players. on the other hand they draft Pat Turner who had a rep for being lazy and underachieving.
My point is, nobody knows what this FO's hand is.Anonymous likes this. -

The focus of the offense needs to shift to Henne/Marshall... b/c those 2 can at least be counted on for the entire season.Anonymous likes this. -
You put a lot into the OL, then get a bunch of skill position players that are smart and don't make mistakes. You give those players good enough coaches, and good things are bound to happen. -
And we cant make that bread and butter Ronnie Brown anymore... b/c when he goes down to injury about half way through the season... our offense takes a MAJOR hit. It has really crippled us in recent years... and we need to move away from that to something that is more reliable...
Ronnie needs to be a side dish... not the main course...
And thats the exact reason why we wont extend him to a longer deal. The longest he will play for us is 1 more additional year under a franchise tag...Anonymous likes this. -

also, the fact that you still refer to what we've been doing for 2 years as a gimmick tells me all I need to know....I see what were doing as nothing of the sort.dolphindebby and LandShark13 like this. -

I'm in favor of running Ronnie & Ricky
however
next year will bring the real need
& the guy is available now
& could contribute in 2010
