If you subscribe to the fact this coaching staff has ruined Henne, then what's worse, that with this regime or Shula's regime pissing away Marino's talents all those years?
-
Shula and Marino obviously. Henne is pedestrian at best and Marino was arguably the GOAT.

I don't see how you can really compare the two. Marino is a HOF quarterback... One issue has to do with the quarterback himself, the other issue has to do with the talent you put around him. IMO, you can't compare the two.

yeah its actually an apples or oranges type of question.

I get it, and I say it is worse that we wasted Marinos talent. If Marino had one 2-3 super bowls, this franchise would be a whole different animal. The legacy alone would have attracted higher profile free agents and coaches. This franchise would be considered among those like Pittsburgh or the NYG and maybe NE never would have had a chance to gain steam. For that assumption, I say F.U. Shula. But I still love you!

No SB for Marino is the worst thing that has ever happened to this franchise. When you are that close and fail it makes it that much harder to take.
I'm not sold that Henne is ruined and Sparano was just the enabler. Dan Henning is the guilty party for any damage done to our young QB. -
Marino is the far worse scenario.
When an organization fails to win a championship with one of the best QB's ever to step on a field and a HOF QB to boot you've failed miserably. It's a complete embarrassment and a massive missed opportunity for the Phins organization.
I sometimes feel like wasting Marino's talent has been what's put this kharmic type curse the organization that we've been suffering from. A modern day curse of the Bambino situation.
I'm also not convinced Henne is ruined and am also convinced Henning was the worst culprit in stunting the kids growth.
Henne is behind the 8 ball though. I don't think he'll get another year past this one to show significant progress. -
Shula's mistake was as the GM, not the HC, of this team thus we and Marino suffered thru bad picks.
Henne's problem stems directly from bad coaching, not the picking of players. IMHO Jeff Ireland has done and is doing a great job. jm2c
Quite honestly if Don Shula were the HC today I think we would have a great chance to be very good, as it is, not so much. -

I'll contribute...Sparano is a joke and incapable of leading a dominate football team.

This last decade has been nothing short of painful and the fact is, Henne is the best prospect we have had in that time. Which of course isn't saying much I know.....
So...... I vote watching the fist pumper bumble his way thru trying to develop a QB and totally mis-handling the only decent prospect we've had since Marino.
I'm glad we didn't another one for him to screw up...Fin D likes this. -

Hate to say it but in all honesty these guys should get a minimum of two to three years now with Parcells not making the calls. I know if they don't produce in year one with no Parcells they are more than likely gone.
Its like saying you are in charge to make us win but i want you to do what Joe Blow says. -

Shula was a damn good coach.
a HOF coach, one of the best ever to coach in the game.
Having said that, coaching and prospect/personnel assessment are two completely different talent sets.
If Shula had a strong GM paired with him Shula and Marino probably would have gotten a couple rings together.
Unfortunately the Phins made the same mistake many teams have done with top coaches in the past..... given them complete control over personnel. A good GM is a critical piece for long term success of any team.
So to repeat again what Gafinfan stated.
Shula failed as a GM but excelled as a coach.
He fully deserves his "God like" status as a coach.
Get it now? -

everyone loves Shula ... but when he lost Arnsparger - the 'D' was never the same ... period. Defense was not a Shula fortee ..
while i do subscribe to the fact that this regime put some constraints and 'expectations' on Henne heading into last year with threats hanging over his head regarding CP; the laundry list of why the offense was anemic last year can be rather long. i do believe that we'll see a more comfortable and confident Henne this coming year ... i'm looking forward to seeing positive steps towards and beyond Flacco level .... -
During Marino's career with Shula, he only had one losing season and for a while there, the Dolphins were perinnial AFC Champsionship participants.
Besides, in football, there are two sides of the ball...offense and defense. Marino and the offense weren't ever responsible for stopping the other team from scoring points that beat us...that laid with the defense. -
The Defense sucked for almost his entire career except the year they went to the SB.. -
