The whole mess with Martin and Incognito shouldn't play a role in keeping/firing personnel IMO.

Who cares if they knew or didn't know what was going on?

Ireland sucks, Sherman sucks, they need to go.

Don't agree. Preventing the Martin and Incognito mess is exactly Philbin's job. It doesn't matter if Philbin wanted Incognito gone, he still failed.

It's more important to me that Philbin goes than Ireland, although I'm ready for Ireland to go too. But what happened those last 2 games is on Philbin. And it was the same thing we saw in the first game against Buffalo and the TB game, both games with extra time to prepare. We saw some ridiculously uninspired and apathetic football. We saw the team mimic Philbin's personality. Those were games lost to less talented teams. Ireland played little to no role in those losses. 7 pts combined in 2 critical games is inexcusable. Two games against bad rookie QBs and a grand total of 1 sack and 1 turnover? That's just pathetic. And I don't see how you separate Sherman from Philbin -- they are about as joined at the hip as any HC/OC pairing in NFL history (with the possible exception of the father-son pairings like the Shanahans). What exactly is it that people think Philbin is good at or has done well?

I've had my season tix for 18 years since I moved back down here. If Philbin stays I will not renew. I will still go to the games and support my team, but I'll buy my tix on the secondary market (StubHub, etc.) on a game to game basis. There obviously will be plenty of seats available.

How exactly is Philbin supposed to prevent something from happening that took place outside the building?

I understand that. But do you really want them making HC and GM decisions based on public opinion?

It's true. We've never seen a stoic coach be successful in the NFL. :wink2:

The leaked voice mail rant (which was obviously in jest) happened outside the building, but the alleged bullying happened inside the building. For example, the
"get up from the lunch table" thing, etc. I don't think that, or most of what we've heard about, is really a big deal and I think Martin is a whiny baby (if what I have heard is true), but not everything happened outside the building. And if there was a "Code Red" ordered, that presumably happened in the building (and maybe from within Philbin's office).

We have. And that alone doesn't mean he can't be a good coach. But how many of those successful stoic coaches had teams tank 2 games to end the season against sub-.500 division rivals starting bad rookie QBs with the playoffs on the line and by scoring a combined 7 points? I'm not saying his personality is what caused the tanking -- I am just saying that the team played with about as much fire as Philbin shows.

It was both, along with player performance.

Either way it seems like the team viewed this as a stepping stone season, you don't jettison a slew of proven vets and draft a bunch of hurt guys when you're in a make or break season.

So what you are saying is that Martin and Incognito only joked like that outside of the building? Or that after Incognito had that incident last year and with knowledge that he is kind of a jerk, that he still had to allow him to be voted in a leadership position? Or that he had no idea that the linemen were having meetings at strip clubs?

The MAJOR problem with the Dolphin organization is Ross. He has been the majority owner of this team for the past five years and the Dolphins have had no winning records over these five seasons.

He doesn't know what he is doing and he has A second rate GM and HC running his football team.

I agree with you that he likely won't fire Ireland and Philbin will probably convince Ross that the offensive problems this year were not the fault of Sherman. Besides, what decent OC would want to coach the Dolphins next year, when it would probably only be for one year.

I expect the Dolphin GM, HC, and OC to remain for the 2014 season and for the Dolphins to go no better than 6-10 next year. Changes will be made at that time, but it will be one year too late.

And that is absolutely a fair assessment. Where I have the problem is most of us have agreed over the years that this process of building a contender is a multi - year process; 3 - 4 even 5 yrs. Ireland and Philbin Have had 2 years together. The first year was a year filled with talent from the previous systems. This year they made an attempt (their only attempt) at getting personal for the current systems. We regressed in the LB area and our offensively line imploded mid-season. Was this not to be expected. There was supposed to be people in and out, tweaks as we go along. As long as there is measurable improvement. Not sure what anyone could have done if they didn't know the line was going to implode. No-one saw it was coming. These Previous systems are totally different from what we currently run. Offense is now the west-coast, with the defense switching to the 4-3. These schemes are totally different requiring different personal. Ireland and Philbin have had 1 yr to start the transition.....

I cut them some slack. Am I pissed we lost............no doubt. But they deserve a chance to put it together anything else IMO is being short sighted or letting emotion dictate.

Your basing Ireland's draft success on players who were not drafted for these current systems. People are also basing current perception of a player who was a 3-4 player now being forced to try and learn a new system 4 -3 as inferior and then projecting that onto Ireland. There is a huge difference in coverages and the way the line works between the two that there is going to be a 2 or 3 yr learning curve for the players. It doesn't necessarily mean they are inferior players it just means they need the opportunity to learn the system. It's like learning a new language, at first you suck but as you use it you begin to pick it up and because you are a superior athlete are able to excel faster then others. We just need to be patient. Don't get me wrong there are some who were brought here this year and have failed. That is the nature of the beast. But, there are some who were let go at Philbin's request and some that we have had success with, or are projects that remain to be seen. Good lord, all these guys are superior athletes. If the coaches can't get them to play........who should that fall on. They must look awful damn good on tape or they wouldn't be drafted. JMO

No decisions have been made because Ross doesn't have a clue when it comes to being an NFL owner. OF course he is the same man that extended the contract of Sparano after trying to hire another head coach while Sparano was still the Dolphins HC. He also extended Ireland after the Dolphins had four consecutive losing seasons.

Ireland will do what he does best. He will place the blame on the coaches for the lack of production by the majority of the free agents he signed after the 2012 season, as well as the lack of playing time for the 2013 draft picks. He will claim that he has selected quality talent but it is the coaches fault these players haven't performed to a higher level. Ross will once again give Ireland a pass and probably will sign him to another contract extension.

Instead of getting rid of the present coaching staff and Ireland. We should all be wishing that the decision Ross finally makes is that he sells the team. The next owner can come in and get rid of the mess Ross leaves him in regards to the GM and the coaching staff.

The problem is that Ireland selected the QB, the running backs, the OL, the TE, and the WR's for this roster. Yet the offense continues to be one of the worst offenses in the NFL because the talent just isn't very good.

Ireland also signed Ellerbe and Wheeler and got rid of Dansby and Burnett because they were suppose to be better suited for the defense the Dolphin play. He was 100% wrong in these signings and these LB's were a major reason the defense took a major step backwards this season.

I agree the coaches need to be replaced, but Ireland should be packing up to leave with the coaches.

This team was a 11-5, 12-4 team with the talent on this team. Coaching killed us as evidenced in the last two games. There are holes on every team. I have 100% confidence that Jeff Ireland will adequately address them in the off season

No, the Dolphins were an 8-8 team and that is what the record shows. You make assumptions that the Dolphins should have won some of the close games they lost. They could just as easily lost some of the close games they won and finished the season with only 5 or 6 wins.

The reality is the Bills are a more talented team than the Dolphins and the Jets, if they hadn't been forced to play a rookie QB this year, would probably have won 2 or 3 more games this season.

Right now, the Dolphins are probably the least talented team in the AFC East, heading into next season. They also have the worse owner, GM, and head coach in the division. Other than that , things are looking bright for the Dolphins future. (SIC).

Ok. You keep saying Ireland, Ireland. Are you saying Joe Philbin has no part in this??

You are correct Ireland selected, with Joe Philbin's 100% input who is on this team. It is up to the coaches to take the players and get them to perform, not Ireland's.

The coaching staff simply did not do that. The plays being called are suspect at times (coaching) and there are zero adjustments. I need to refer you only to the Buffalo and NY game.

Jeff Ireland put a 11-5, 12-4 talented team on the field. The coaches failed.

    Jeff Ireland deserves to stay.

As far as the Linebackers go, I agree Dansby we should have kept. But like the others I guarantee both Philbin and Coyle were involved 100%. Without signing off they would have not went anywhere. There was no reason to make a change unless the change was requested.

In fact you cannot have a GM on a one year deal so lets extend to four years and give him 10% increase for terrific drafting and FA acquisitions.

I have no idea how you think this team has enough talent to win more games than it did. Personally I am surprised they won as many games as they did.

They have an average QB. They had the worse offensive line in the NFL this year. Their RB's are below average and their receivers were the best part of the offense, but they failed to show up in the final two games of the season, as did Tannehill.

On defense, the LB corp is average or below average for an NFL LB corp. In the secondary, Grimes was by far the best player in this unit. The rest of the starters in the secondary are all basically very average and this entire unit is overall very mediocre.

The defensive line was suppose to be the strength of this team. Yet they were very inconsistent in the pass rush, including having zero sacks and very little QB pressure in the final two games of the regular season.
The play of this unit against the run was terrible for the majority of the year, Instead of being the strength of this team. It appeared the play of this unit regressed as the season went on.

The special teams were mediocre at best. There was no threat in the punt and kickoff teams this year and Stugis ended up being a downgrade from Carpenter, who had a much better year in Buffalo than Sturgis had in Miami. In fact the only star of the special teams is Carpenter and because the Dolphins offense was so inept in so many games this year. Carpenter got far too many opportunities to show how effective he is as an NFL punter.

So when you look at each unit on this roster. I have no idea how you can come to the conclusion that it is anything more than an average NFL team with mediocre overall talent. That is why after 16 games, they finished 8-8. You can's get any more average than that.

I agree Philbin shares blames for what happened this season. He is the head coach and therefore he gets the blame when the team doesn't succeed. Of course if he had more talent to work with, perhaps the Dolphins would have won more games. I don't care if Philbin is fired after a record of 15-17 over two seasons. That isn't good enough for me. As long as Ireland goes with him, I will be a happy Dolphin fan.

You can beat the "we had the worst offensive line" mantra to death, but as a whole, Miami has a lot more talent in their skill positions than the Jets do and NY won 8 games. You swap staffs with NY and Miami is playing this weekend. There was enough to work with to reach 9 wins. I'm not taking sides, but call a spade a spade.
