Well now, it appears to be shaping as Taurus Johnson vs Ryan Grice Mullen for "the Returner" role as they are the only two seeing time at both, and Nolan Carroll sliding over to kick off returns is a fantastic development if he can manage to compete well.
A Db who can play on ST, Returner, and some in the base defense would be outstanding. Carroll has 4.4/3 speed when healthy.

It would be nice because he's so fast and he's set to make the roster regardless, but he's got no real experience at it to my knowledge.

My dude, RGM is an explosive returner, his problem is there is a touch of Chris Williams' hands to his game that he needs to dispel.
Interesting that AJ Wallace is also not fielding any kicks, if he were, Wallace, Davis, RGM, either set School records for returns, or set a league record for the longest return, there is a lot of talent competing for that job.
Someone (Berardino?) said Sheets was the best in the group, ShaunM in the live camp thread mentioned RGM and Carroll, it's hard to say who is in the lead so to speak. -
On a larger thought, notice that the spots where there is real competition, G, KR, #2 Wr, #4 maybe #5 Wr, OLB, and DE, there are talented options vying for the jobs?
I mean, if RGM, Carroll or Sheets wins the Returner job, or T Johnson or Tristan Davis, all of them run 4.4's/4.3's, if Misi wins the OLB job, or Ikaika Francis, both are freakish type athletes, so it's not like Rashad Jennings would be Starting, a good, not great player with little upside.
IE..Q Moses has a steep hill to climb.
At DE, Douglas, Grant, Baker, to a lesser extent McDaniel, all of them can play fairly well and offer real options for Nolan's Defense.
i'm digging the thinking behind this Camp so far as it seems they finally have gotten enough depth that the luxury of non Vets vying for jobs can be indulged, and the young guys are good athletes. -
Exactly as you say Alen, largely unmentioned is Sheets got into a jam at Purdue via bad mouthing either the Coach or Qb.
He does have some practice squad time left, but I suspect if after a year in Miami he cannot win a job they may cut bait on him. -
Fresh perspective so I'll bump this with that:

I simply hope they take it seriously and do not settle for the status quo of Bess and Cobbs...<shudder>..we need everyone to produce, Sparano should recognize Returner as a need position, not a "whomever" position.
I do expect there will be a winnowing of some of the prospects soon, there just is not enough room for them all to have shots at the job. -

I wonder why AJ Wallace is not given any chances. He was a top 20 returner in college last year and imo the only way he makes the team is on special teams.

I do not think kick returners get hurt any more than wide receiver. Just because one guy gets hurt doesn't mean that kick returner is more dangerous.
I want to see Taurus Johnson win, mostly because I like what he can develop as a 5th receiver. -

RGM is not practicing today 08/01/10
-
Well he did tear his ACL in the first game as a Returner adamp.
Difference is, Seahorn was a pro bowler, Carrol is a 5th rd pick.
and keep in mind Devin Hester began as a Cb, the Ravens used L Webb as Returner, and Miller made the pro bowl as a returner and he was a Cb.
What if Jason Allen could return kicks? That is the value that a Cb/Returner/ST player offers.
i'm unabashedly pro RGM, but if he doesn't make it, oh well, there goes my Scout Union Card...:lol:ToddsPhins and adamprez2003 like this. -

I'd actually like to see him get a few reps in with the 1st team offense during Pre-season to see what he can do behind our mauling line..... see if he can be our Ahmad Bradshaw.
I like what he showed in this winning TD run vs Dallas. In the comments below it, the fans didn't seem to happy to let him go. One of them cracked me up! Ahmad Bradshaw is a spot on comparison "if" he shows he has a all around game.
Knowshon Moreno tore a hamstring (or may have) if Hilliard and Sheets show something, no one should be surprised, unless Westbrook signs in Denver.ToddsPhins likes this. -

I personally saw kick return drills yesterday and RGM and Nolan Carroll were electric! The speed but more importantly the cuts from those two were impressive!

Just listened to Sparano's presser today and he said:
..."we've had Davis, Carroll, Cobbs, Bess, back there on kicks...if there is a way for one of those guys to make the team returning kicks or punts I'd like to have one of them force me to make a decision on how they make the 53 man roster.."
Nice, attack attack attack always attack..the door is open, someone simply has to walk through it and take a job in the NFL as a Returner. -
He reminds me of Deion in the open field. If you want the damn ball in his hands, here is his, fans of his, and the teams opportunity. Jeez, what's the problem? -

Don't worry about off tackle dives and things he doesn't do well, and use him where his skills can put him into a position to succeed.
Heck, he'd be good on screens as well, that is if Henne can throw them./ToddsPhins likes this. -
