assuming it's going to cost #42 and at least one of our 3rd round picks (and likely a later day 3 pick IMO)?
Guys oft mentioned... Fleener and Upshaw... I wouldn't do it for anyone.
Discuss. :hi5:

Fleener or Stephen Hill
Let's get Tannehill some playmakers.
while we could use another pass rusher I don't see it as the dire need that some do. Most teams aren't even lucky enough to have a guy like Wake. We already have one great pass rusher. Two is great, but not a necessity. And last I checked there will be other drafts. The value now is in the skill guys. Let's get the bestLandShark13, BlameItOnTheHenne, Fin D and 1 other person like this. -
I do not want to give up one of the third. I think Miami can get good value there.

It was costing a 4th round pick to move up ~6 spots in late rd 1. Why would it take a 3rd now? I wouldn't part with that much, heck no.

I think that staying put will be the right decision, unless there is a player that ireland believes is leaps above the rest of the prospects. I personally think that one of the players we want will be available at 42. Reuben Randle, Cody Fleener, Courtney Upshaw, Vinny Curry are who I would be targeting, I am not a fan of a Stephen Hill pick.
Btw, I dont think its gonna cost as much as you think to move up.Last edited: Apr 27, 2012Paul 13 likes this. -
IF it didn't cost much Fleener. A good TE can be a quarterbacks best friend

I've seen Randle mentioned alot, but isn't he more of a possession guy? Don't we have enough of those already and need more of a game breaker?
-
Because it's the top of round 2 AND everyone has had time to reset their draft boards. They've also had more than the 10 minutes to discuss with several teams the value of a certain pick. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if someone throws a late 2 and next year's first at one of the top 5 teams picking right now.
-
I think that he has really good game speed and really good acceleration, I think he can be a possession reciever as well as a deeper threat, Just IMO. I really like him.
-
We got too many needs to afford a trade up.
Stay where we are and take Massie then go WR/DE in round 3. Take one of the TE's in 4 or 5. -
Courtney Upshaw! or Fleener the gap between them and the others at their positions is bigger than Strahan's grill.
Plus one or two of these will be there at 71 and 72:
Stephen Hill
Alshon Jeffery
Rueben Randle
Muhamed Sanu
Chris Givens
Marvin McNutt
Marvin Jones
Ryan Broyles
Nick Toon

I'm surprised we didn't try to move up at the end of round 1. Tampa only swapped 4ths with Denver. And with us having an extra 3rd, I would of loved to move up to ensure Fleener...

I'd only give up that much for Upshaw.
Now, if you're talking about giving up pick #42 and the 4th round pick, I'd list Upshaw, Fleener, or one of the tackles between Jonathan Martin and Mike Adams.
But, Upshaw would be my primary target regardless.Paul 13 likes this. -

I want jenkins bad was praying so the pats wouldn't take him at 31 last night
-
Alshon Jeffery...
He's gonna be a stud. I wouldn't mind though sitting at 42 and taking Vinny Curry, then going after 2 WRs in the 3rd (ie. Streeter, Givens, Jones, Broyles, etc...)Paul 13 likes this. -

He obviously didn't try to hard. Denver was willing to. For pretty damn cheap as well.
-
It wasn't for the TE.
Ireland was trying to nab the free falling DeCastro imo. If the Steelers hadn't nabbed him I think Miami might have pulled something off to get him at 26 to get him.
The beat reporters mentioned that Ireland rushed back to the room and it was right at the time when in the Club Level chat noticed he was sliding (considering folks were trying to tell me he wouldn't make it to 14-16 if we traded down). -
I dont have a draft point chart but could we trade with SL for the 1st 2nd rounder and give up our second and fourth? I would think that with both Jefferies and Hill available SL might be ok trading down. We could then get Quick and an OLB/DE in the 3rd.
-
Based on the draft value chart, an equal trade up to 33 for us would be the swap of the second rounds, and we would have to give up our 4th and 7th rounders.
-
That is how Jimmy Johnson got Pat Surtain

See I don't understand the importance on Fleener when you have Clay. Clay could fit in well with this offense and flexing the tight end. I know I'm not a big fan of Fasano either... but I'm not excited about trading up for Fleener.Hiruma78 likes this.

That's a misconception because of randles frame. I thought that too until I watched video and he can run man. He creates separation and has good hands. His route tree seemed somewhat limited but I'm sure he can expand that as it seemed like a function of LSU offense. He's a vertical player all the way though.
I don't see that one player to move up for at the cost of a 3rd but if I thought buffalo was taking any of Jeffery, Randle or Andre Branch id give a 4 to leapfrog them.Paul 13 likes this. -
He made the trade before the 1st round even started that year. I remember them announcing Miami had traded their next year's 1st to Carolina for their 1998 2nd rounder. I was hoping JJ was going to use it on Brian Kelly from USC. Shows what I knew.
-
I think Clay could play FB for that matter, and Fleener has a much more unique skill set and triangle numbers. I envision him as doing the same thing for his future team as Graham and Gronkowski do. The upside for Clay IMO would be about Dustin Keller, which isn't bad, but just not as dynamic as what I think Fleener could offer.Paul 13 likes this.

several teams are interested in trading up to the top of round two for Janoris Jenkins according to this article:
http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/0900...s-garnering-secondround-interest-in-nfl-draft
I really really really really hope Miami is not one of them. IMO, anyone that tests positive at the NFL combine should be taken off the board. Not because of the drug thing (lots of current NFL guys smoke weed), it speaks to intelligence and commitment to pro football. You couldn't wait a couple of weeks to light it up? Cmon man!!
EDIT: Wrong player... still wouldn't trade up for him. -
I respectfully disagree, not to mention the HUGE size difference!!
