And - yes - this must mean someone new is on the way. Rolle, hopefully!

 

I don't think we're gonna get Rolle. The Giants are prepared to offer him more. My guess is we'll draft one or Chris Clemons will get a chance to start.

 

I have to say I'm pleased they cut bait so quickly. I don't normally like knee jerk reactions, but after the Ernest Wilford experiment, I think the FO is starting to trust it's gut a bit more.

I'm kinda shocked by this move. Wow. I figured, for sure, that he was signed to be the SS of the future.

He was playing out of position all year and now we're actually going to pay Bell the $14 million bonus he's due in a couple of days? This is a headscratcher.

That said, if this opens the door for Earl Thomas at #12, I can't complain.

After all the hoopla this is the meaning of the move. I think the move says more about their evaluation of Yeremiah Bell. I like the statement. Bell worked his *** off last year.

 

Yeah, shame on those of us who defended a guy that was put in a position to fail by the FO and coaching staff.

A change had to be made, as you cannot head into next season with two undersized linebackers manning the Safety positions, but I thought that cutting ties with Yeremiah would have been the more prudent choice.

 

Wouldn't be surprised if Bell is let go too...just sayin'

No, he put him self into position to fail by his bad angles and bad tackling. And yea, that would make a lot of sense keeping a bad player, no matter where he's at, and releasing our good one.

There is no way Bell is seeing that $14M, he's getting cut too.

 

and Gibral Wilson is laughing his *** off all the way to the bank. Oak signed him for 6 yrs with $16mil guaranteed. Then cut him after 1 yr and we sign him for 5 yrs with another $8mil guaranteed. That's over $24 mil, counting salary. Ain't too many players making over $8mil/yr for doing nothing. Wonder ig he'll get another

That # was reported in an article prior to end of last season......but it seems based on his actual contract, that its a typo and more like 1.4M and the reporter messed up the decimal.

Releasing Wilson, seems to corroborate this decimal mistake.

 

You're right, there's absolutely no difference between the SS and FS positions. They are interchangable.

Cutting ties with the better of the two would have been a lousy choice. I expect them to maybe rework Bells contract.

 

Well, we definitely know of one that is coming. Will be interesting though to see if there are any other "big" names.

 

My logic regarding the situation is pretty straightforward.

1) Wilson was playing out of position.
2) Bell's contract. (Note: if BigDog is indeed correct, this would quite obviously change my stance on the situation.)
3) Age. Wilson is younger by a couple of years.

 

I watched a lot of games last year where Bell was trailing the TE by at least a couple of yards. Bell was every bit as bad as Wilson last year, both were appalling.

 

Yeah, I don't think I've ever heard of a 14M bonus ... for anyone.

 

And the internet is an infallible source of information, right? It's been pointed out above that it was likely a typo. The only way Bell is cut is if they're convinced that Clemens is the answer at Strong Safety.
