Yes. At this point it's hard to blame them for leaving a city that refuses to invest, when plenty of other cities have invested in their teams.

 

Here is where I have an issue, if they have a bobcats/Hornets situation. Hornets moved to NO, bobcats moved to Charlotte. Hornets are now changing their name to the Pealicans. and the Bobcats may be the Hornets again. I would have for miami to fall in that situation where if you were a Hornet fan, who do you root for Charlotte or NO?

 

As much as it pains me, I'd prolly just go be a fan of the local team. They are on an upswing and there will always be considerable fan support here. Wouldn't have to keep my Sunday Ticket subscription, thats a positive.

Living in North Carolina, once the Hornets left we stopped rooting for them.. I'm guessing kind of like how Baltimore stopped rooting for the Colts. It's like your team disowned you. Once we got the Bobcats, they became our team. We support them win or lose, but now that we might be switching the names back everybody loves the idea, me included. The Hornets were a way better team; colors, mascot, etc. As for the Dolphins, I became a fan because I was born and raised in South Florida. It'd be hard to root for them if they left for Los Angeles or somewhere else. You never really know what you'd do unless it happens though.

 

I really don't know. I hope it doesn't come to that. I've never been to Miami. The closest I've been is the panhandle. Still, I love the Fins and I can't imagine them anywhere else or there not being a Dolphins team in the NFL. And the LA Dolphins just sounds stupid. Here's hoping there is ALWAYS a Miami Dolphins team in the NFL.

 

Yes but its not happening. If anyone moves anywhere its the Raiders, Rams, Chargers or Bucs. Raiders or Chargers moving to LA would keep them in the same state/conference/division. And their attendance is even worse, and has been worse for a much longer period of time. And their stadiums are much older. And really, the only bad thing about dolphins stadium is the seats being far.

Miami's has only been this low the past 2-3 seasons. That's not nearly bad enough.

No, and if the Dolphins were to move it won't be long till a team like Jacksonville or Tampa relocates to Miami. So I will just wait till there's another Miami Dolphins team.

 

I don't know what the hell I would do. The local team is the patriots, so I'd give up football before I rooted for them. I'd still root for this team as long as Tannehill is the QB, but the gap between my 2nd favorite team (G-men) and Dolphins would close considerably.

 

Being from California I would unless that move came with a name change. If they were to go to a place like LA it would really tear me up with my dislike for professional LA sports teams.

I agree it was very short-sighted of the Miami City Commission back in the 1980's to not work with Robbie to fix the Orange Bowl. And that extended to the 1990's and the Miami Hurricanes who got promise after promise from the City that renovations would happen and yet nothing ever did happen. That is on the City of Miami.

However the county did and continues to make economic concessions for the Miami-Dolphins in the form of the 160 acre Lake Lucerne property on which Sun Life Stadium sits. While the Dolphins do pay property taxes, it is not the same mileage that the normal taxpayer pays. The Dolphins (especially Huizenga) never did themselves any favors either by not being pro-active in the development of economic activity surrounding the stadium, that they promised to do. When Robbie 1st proposed the stadium, and wanted to acquire the Lake Lucerne property, he said that he promised the Dolphins would be involved in getting restaurants, shops and all kinds of businesses into the area immediately surrounding the stadium. Robbie died before he could do much, and Wayne Huizenga, who hated Miami-Dade County, flatly refused to do anything to help Miami out. He did anything and everything he could to help Broward out, but actually put out a Dolphins manifesto that any and all Dolphins activities outside of games were to be anywhere but in Miami-Dade County. So for 20 years the Dolphins actually helped supress economic growth for Miami-Dade residents.

 

If relocation is anything like the NBA, there's no chance in hell the NFL owners approves of relocation from Miami to another city. Jacksonville yes, Buffalo yes, Miami? Hell n

 

As for supporting the Dolphins - where they go, go my loyalties. Even with a change of name from Dolphins I will always support the franchise formerly known as...

 

Yes, the same way every other city pays for their teams' stadium. Unless Miami is inferior to cities like Atlanta or Jacksonville of San Fran or Dallas.

 

I don't even wanna think about that. If they moved and kept the name and the team was still the same then yeah I probably would. I don't know though I might feel betrayed, then what do you do if they ever bring a team back? I hope we are never put in that situation.

 

Dolphins already offered ownership to Miami Dade. Cities benefit more when the team owns the stadium.

I'm from North Carolina too but I didn't root for the Hornets or Bobcats or Panthers and I never lived in Florida. I guess I'm pretty one dimensional when it comes to sports the Dolphins are the only team I've ever watched or root for. That said, like most fans, I follow the Dolphins year round and I don't miss a game. So if the if the Dolphins were still the Dolphins in LA, with the same mascot, I'd probably still root for them, especially if Tannehill turned out to be Marino II.

 

I'm a long distance Dolphins fan as is..so I'll be with them where ever they go.

Still quite a ways from the moving though. The steps at this point will be Ross selling which could take a few years. A new incoming owner who sets up a billion dollar showdown for a new stadium. If that fails...that's when the move will come. All of that would probably take about 8-10 years to move through. The NFL has no problem with a team moving if the area doesn't support them. Considering Miami has historically been a sweet deal for Florida.....to have this cheap deal turned down that kept Miami there for another 30 years. That was bone headed. It'll cost em a crap load of money or the team down the road. NO if's and's or but's.

With the way the game is played now, it's very hard for me to watch the NFL anymore. Really the only thing keeping me in touch with this league is the Miami Dolphins. If the Dolphins move, then I wouldnt support them or the league anymore. I'm already close to not supporting the league as we speak. The only thing I've spent money on is the Sunday ticket, nothing else.

 

Thats a tough question. Id have a hard time separating myself from the team and the roster, regardless of where they play. However, I'd feel a bit... irritated and betrayed... for lack of better words. There's a pretty good chance I may change to a local team, or at least a team that's more local to me, and thats unfortunately Detroit. At least then I could go to the games, and catch them on tv without the expense of sunday ticket. It'd be tough... but I dont know... tough to answer.

 

With the cost of everything these days, I refuse to buy hats, t-shirts or even go to games. The cost is too much and doesn't make sense for me to spend good hard earned money on the NFL.

 

I think the premise of this thread is off. The Dolphins are not moving, certainly not to LA. LA is a popular boogeyman, but they do not have a stadium and the NFL will not even considering moving a team or establishing a new franchise until they get a stadium; conversely, LA won't build the stadium until they get a guarantee of a team. LA is not happening, and the Dolphins are not moving.

The city did not refuse to invest.

 

Every day that passes with them subsidizing plenty of businesses, but not the Dolphins, is a day in which they failed to invest. No competent city allows the state to dictate their economic growth. Miami hasn't been able to properly govern itself for years, this is just the latest example.

 

The city of Miami did not refuse to invest. They went along with the plan.

The county of Miami-Dade did not refuse to invest. They swiftly voted in favor of the plan and for a special election.

The Florida House of Representatives did not vote on a tax increase. Thus the plan was scrapped.

If you're going to blame someone, be specific. The "problem" does not lie in Miami city or county government, as far as the passage of stadium renovation goes.
