I've mentioned in other threads that he is the WR that I most want them to draft. Part of it is because i don't want them to take one with their first pick. Some will say that he will be a better TE in the NFL and that his forty time wasn't so good. I disagree to a point. Yes, his 40 time wasn't great, but I think that is sometimes over rated and I think there is sometimes a difference between 40 times and game speed. I think, for someone with his skill set, he's fast enough. As for him being a TE, hey, if you want to line him up as seem busting TE, fine, but I don't think that will be his best position in the NFL. He's that big, go-up-and-get-it, huge catch radius type of WR, the kind this team sorely lacks and the kind I've always wanted on this team. Well, after they traded Marshall. :pointlol:
Well, today I turn on NFLN, I see he is one of the WRs on "Game Changers". Damn!! I don't want him to get too much notoriety. I know that's more for us fans and scouts have already done their homework. He also seems like a good guy. Mayock compares him to K. Benjamin. i would love to get him in the 2nd, but I have a feeling he will go late in the first. I could see a team like NE taking him.
Curious to to see your opinions.

As for him playing TE vs. WR, he can do both, and there's nothing wrong with versatility. So, yes...I doubt he will still be OTB at #47. But, if we trade down (and, I'm not necessarily suggesting we do, nor have I heard anything to suggest we will), then perhaps we get him in the late first? All that said, sometimes you just have to take a player early if he fills a need and you don't think he'll be there when you select again.
Curious to know how you and others here think he compares to the other highly ranked big WR...Dorial Green-Beckham.Sceeto likes this. -
we got cameron for the redzone now, funchess is to slow, we need more speed on offense

I watched that episode of Game Changers and came away thinking we need Michael Irvin...

Doesn't make catches in traffic consistently despite his size. Often out muscled for the ball by smaller defenders.

I'll add this to this thread because I don't think it merits a new one, but according to Matt Miller from Bleacher Report, Dolphins are "falling in love" with Dorial Green-Beckham.
Would seem weird giving DGB's off the field issues, but he has some top talent potential, and maybe the new shot caller Tannenbaum is not as queasy about those issues as Philbin. If you believe this, of course.Sceeto and PhinFan1968 like this. -
If he is available in the 6th or 7th round and they are still looking to add a WR, he might be worth a pick in that range.
He wasn't a great WR at the college level and I really don't see him being a starter in the NFL, but he might be a fairly decent 4th or 5th WR on an NFL roster.
They have too many other needs on their roster to use one of their first four picks on a player who might not even make it past training camp, IMO.Sceeto likes this. -

Problem is, you have to be all in on him before ANYONE knows whether he's going to keep his head on straight or not. -
You have to draft him and therefore be all in on him before we know whether he keeps on the narrow path. -
Really doubt anyone's going to be able to predict his path based on interviews. A lot of people can feel sorry for past mistakes and truly believe and portray their going to be on a straight path....until they aren't. -
Devin Funchess has the potential to be the best TE in this class.
But it's not happening at WR; his hands and route tree are too poor for the first and second round.
However, if it's Funchess' 6'4'' 232 size and 4.7 forty you're coveting, I'd recommend looking at Darren Waller from Georgia Tech, who is two inches taller, five pounds heavier, and ran the forty faster (4.46):
Or Dezmin Lewis from Central Arkansas, also 6'4 with a 4.58 forty:Sceeto likes this.
