Jesse Agler and Omar are both reporting Gaffney was waived.
Both say Miami claimed Colts TE Kyle Miller off waivers.

Recall Mike Sherman lamenting yesterday that we're not ready to run 4-WR packages yet anyway.
Still, we shouldn't be in the business of jettisoning WR skill. Interested in coach's comments tomorrow.gunn34 likes this. -
Thigpen probably lines up outside before Egnew I'd guess. -

Well New England has at least as many TEs as WRs, we might see in 2 weeks whether their 3rd and 4th string TEs are better than our 1st and 2nd stringers

Meanwhile Pittsburgh signs Plaxico Burress on top of having Mike Wallace, Antonio Brown, and Emmanuel Sanders.

Surprised by Gaffney being waived but also thought Matthews should play more anyway
Reggie B being phased down, Gaffney waived...fellas... -

That's really disappointing that Gaffney didn't pan out.

The front office does know that Andrew Luck was drafted last offseason don't they? Who are we sucking for?

Sounds like a preemptive white flag on the 2012 season if you ask me; time for more of the young guys like Matthews and Moore. Hopefully Lamar Miller gets more of a look as well.

Next 3 weeks may not be pretty, over under on the number of "fire Ireland!" threads?
I'm thinking about 25-30 -

Anyway, heck, why not give Thigpen a look. He's proven to be pretty nifty in the open field on kick/punt returns. I must admit I haven't seen him since his days at IU, but he's been a nice find. -

Green Bay's roster last year, and this year carried 5 TEs. Perhaps it's a trait of the Philbin offense - they've got: Jermichael Finley, Tom Crabtree, D.J. Williams, Ryan Taylor, and Andrew Quarless this year.
-
My issue with Ireland is he can find a Thigpen, but his 3rd rd pick Te appears hopeless for this season
To much of that happens with this team. -
Given the way Philbin looks at the zone blocking, a good sized tight end is a "double threat" out there. He can block and he can catch under the rules.

Unreal... lets further deplete a position we're already desparate for talent at. Nice.
Hopefully this means more of Bush lining up as a WR, and more Matthews. Hope he knows the playbook by now... lol -

what we got like 5 tight ends ,5 runningbacks../fullbacks and 4 wide receivers on roster??seems a lopsided roster
hmm i know gaffney didnt set the world on fire but he was a option for tannehill, and i like it gives matthews a chance ,surely it must only be a matter of time before fuller is called upto the squad??
i know philbin loves tight ends
but how does a guy like mastrud continue to stay on this roster ,would have prefered a like for like change with the tight signed -
