This is the best defense I've ever seen since watching the Miami dolphins...yeah I said it...I'm sure you may not agree { I'm just talking about a small sample size} but to me it means a lot, I watched those Jason Taylor led defenses...
never trusted them in a pinch..
this defense plays with a physicality that that defense never achieved..

Consistency is the key to success. Can they continue for the season, next, 3 or 4 more??? The Surtain Madison Thomas Taylor years weren't bad. Not bad at all. 1 HOFer and at least one more that coulda shoulda, Madison and certainly Thomas in the conversation.

I like their play, but this is too early. They still have some bad habits. Seems 3rd down conversions is still an issue, but I don't have stats on that. The main thing is can they get pressure with their front or do they have to expose themselves and blitz, and what will happen?

I love how this defense is playing. They are aggressive, always flowing to the ball, and making solid tackles. I'm willing to say they have the potential to be something very special, but we have been burned on potential before. I want to see the secondary continue to grow. I'm ok with mistakes cause they are young, but they need to come back after that mistake and make up for it with a dynamite play.
The 2 things I would be worried about (and they have already been mentioned) is getting off the field in 3rd and longs, and being thin at LB.
This unit is becoming fun to watch. Imagine if our offense was playing a little closer to league average, we would be killing teams.djphinfan likes this. -

looks like I am wrong. Miami is 5th, but played one less game (regarding 3rd down defense). I wonder if it's mind over matter or the fact that for the first three games they were baddanmarino likes this. -
this defense is great and ive been defending them since week 1, sure they gave up points but when your offense cant move the chains and you send the D on the field every five minutes what do you expect?
Still i cant say this D is better when uou compare to a defense that had Surtain, Madison, Marion ZT and JT and OgunleyeThe Finest and resnor like this. -
so here is the breakdown:
Game 1: 2/8
4/13
6/13
2/13
6/11
I apologize, I thought their 3rd down defense was worse, but it's decent. Is it 2nd down? loldanmarino likes this. -

Fortunately I was in the stands during the glory years and witnessed the great defenses of the early 1970’s. To me, the best DC of all time in the NFL was Bill Arnsparger. When he was in charge of the
defense, there was no better defense than the Dolphins during the early 1970’s.
In fact Shula never really had a great defensive team once Arnsparger left the Dolphins. The defense today is probably the best they have had in several years, but they are not even close to the Dolphin defenses under Arnsparger.Puka-head and ripper1961 like this. -
If the defense is consistently this good, then I agree with you.
I have never seen the offense this putrid. Defenses in the past would have been blown out with how bad the offense has been this year. The fact that Miami is 3-2 outstands me with how bad the offense played. -
Those early 2000s defenses were much better

Seems a lot of people worried/complained about Burke way too early. It's too early to call him a great DC but he's gotten this D to play better earlier than Vance had. Let's hope this continues and we've got our coaching staff locked down for some consecutive years to truly allow the players to get comfortable with the schemes. At that point we can start opening up the playbook for more exotic blitz and coverage packages. Since it's Jets week, "Can't Wait".
