Outfielder goes deep; starter goes three one-run innings

Cardinals at the plate: Hitting in the ninth spot, Brian Barton had a monster game. The left fielder belted two two-run homers, added a two-run double, and finished with six RBIs. Joe Mather added two RBIs. Ryan Ludwick, Yadier Molina and Khalil Greene each had multi-hit games. Tyler Greene added a two-run single in the ninth inning.
Marlins at the plate: For the second consecutive day, Jeremy Hermida went deep. Hitting in the third spot, Hermida connected on a two-run shot in the third inning. Hermida added an RBI double. Cameron Maybin singled, walked and scored twice. Dallas McPherson added two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Alejandro De Aza had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs.
Cardinals on the mound: Joel Pineiro worked two innings, yielding one run on two hits with a walk and two strikeouts. In the third inning, Kyle McClellan gave up a two-run homer to Hermida in the third.
Marlins on the mound: Anibal Sanchez made his second Grapefruit League start, giving up one run on five hits with one strikeout and no walks. In relief, Andrew Miller, worked 1 1/3 innings, giving up six runs (four earned). Prospect Aaron Thompson yielded a two-run homer to Barton and four hits in a four-run sixth inning.
Grapefruit League record: Cardinals 3-1-1, Marlins 1-3-1
Up next: The Cardinals face the Rays on Monday at 12:05 p.m. CT at Roger Dean Stadium, with Adam Wainwright making his Grapefruit League debut. Tampa Bay is going with Wade Davis. The Marlins are off on Monday, but play the Dominican Republic on Tuesday at 1:05 p.m. ET.
