What are our ppg ranks? Also Id rank red zone percentage as a more important stat than total offense and defense.

 

Well.. You do realize we are only 4 games into a 16 game season. Stats fluctuate wildly when there isn't a ton of data to use


Look at these stats:

Cleveland : 2-2
Indianapolis: 3-1
Atlanta Falcons : 1-3
NOLA : 4-0

Our opponents have a 10-5 record so far.

We arent playing teams like: Oakland, Jacksonville, Bucs, Rams, Steelers....

I mean...we are 3-1....with a very winnable game at home against Baltimore. Potential 4-1 against quality opponents. And you think we are over achieving?


Hell...Ill take us over achieving like this all the way to the playoffs...lol.

There are a number of simple ways to reconcile these numbers. Sample size being the most obvious. The other obvious one is outlier effect.

 

I looked it up. We are 16th in ppg scored and 15th in ppg allowed. That's damn good considering a couple of the teams we've played.

We are 14th in allowing teams to score TD's in the redzone, and #1 in scoring TD's once we get to the redzone.

Teams can move the ball between the end zones all they want, if they can't get touchdowns while we do get touchdowns we will be highly successful.

Our offense is also 5th on 3rd down conversion percentage and put defense is 12th in third down defense. All of those rankings are more important than total offense or defense.

 

Our rushing offense numbers have more to do with the ****ty calls our OC makes and the fact that DT might have pictures of him having sex with someone other than his wife.

 

You lost me when you said youbwould still rather have Sean Smith playing for us. Over Nolan Carroll...yes. Over anyone else. NO. We saw this guy play for years here and that was plenty

 

How do stats not fluctuate wildly? Look at all our ranks before and after the saints game. "Wildly" different.

 

Yes we are better and more talented then Indy and San Diego. Stop throwing crap about yards giving up and yards gotten. I wanna know scoring defense and scoring offense. You know, what actually matters. Points.

Aaannnndddd here we effing go with the pushing of the panic button! There is always one of you that has to do this. Sorry we didn't blow out the Saints in their building last night! Sorry that we took a beating in a game that we actaully would have had a great chance at winning minus the two mistakes made in the first half. Sorry that we aren't going to go 16-0 this season. I see atleast five...maybe six more losses for this team.

What we should be concerned about:
1. The O-Line- I really don't want to see Matt Moore anytime soon, we need to protect Tannehill.

2. The running game- which actually looks to be improving week to week.

3. The Tannehill-Wallace connection- Keep in mind that this is the third offensive coordinator Wallace has played under in the last three years. This might take a minute to get going. Sorry we aren't seeing Marino to Clayton right off the bat. The O-line needs to give Tannehill some more time in order to connect with Wallace and for what it's worth...Wallace has been targeted, he's just dropping balls.

4. Cam Wakes health- without him we are dead on defense, we need him back asap.

5. Dion Jordan impact- Need to see more from the third overall pick of the draft; but it's not like the other top picks are tearing the league up either. Millner has been benched, Fisher has struggled, Tavon Austin hasn't done anything, Jarvis Jones is struggling...These are other guys we all wanted to draft so quit whining about Jordan.

6. Secondary- they need to get healthy...Patterson needs to come back, and Jamar Taylor needs to get broken in to things. Last night was his first real game and it showed. I think he gets better though. Where is Will Davis?

Those are what we should be concerned about in my opinion. Make no mistake about it this team is up and coming and you can see that. No reason to trade all of our assets and tank the season...I mean Hayseuss! It's one loss...To a team that will probably go to the super bowl or atleast get close to it.

We don't hang well with top flight offenses in the NFL. I fully expected the Saints to put a route on us in their building. What I didn't expect was to see Ryan Tannehill throw so many picks (BTW super bowl MVP Joe Flacco aka 19282934 miilion dollar contract has like 12 picks already, so does Eli Manning). I also didn't expect our O-Line to be abused the way it was. These guys block with no heart minus Incognito and Pouncey. Once the O-line mans up and plays like it can (see the Atlanta game late 4th) we will be back to winning.

As for Baltimore on Sunday....Thats kind of a pick em in my opinion...A stale mate...The hungrier team will prevail, and don't be surprised if Baltimore is that team.

 

A small sample can skew stats, so yes looking at 4 games compared to a season is an issue. And just b/c Philly, Carolina, and Buffalo have good rushing stats doesn't meant that I want to emulate them.

 

Incognito, Pouncey, Jones, Grimes, Starks, Wake, and Soliai all were either elected to a Pro Bowl or have played at a Pro Bowl level in the last couple years.

 

I don't think the Dolphins are an overachieving team. I have felt all along that they will be an 8-8 or 7-9 team once the season is over. They just happened to get three of those wins early in the season.

The defense has regressed since last year and the offense won't be able to score enough points to to cover for a very mediocre defense in many of their games.

I see the Dolphins losing to the Ravens this week. I think they will split their two games against the Jets and Bills and lose both games to the Patriots. They will probably go 2-2 in their games against the Panthers, Bengals, Chargers, and Bucs. Right now they would probably beat the Steelers, but the game is still a few months away and it may be a toss up by then.

 

Yes, and only Pouncey and Jones were actually drafted during the six years Ireland has been the teams GM. The best teams in the league have been built through the draft, not in free agency. While some of the free agents signed by Ireland have been productive. The vast majority of them have been average, below average, or busts, and that is why the Dolphins have had very little success since the 2009 season. As long as the Dolphins have to rely on players that other teams no longer want on their team, they will continue to be nothing but a mediocre team, year after year.

 

I agree that for the most part Ireland's drafting has been subpar but that's a completely different argument than I'm making right now.

These were our ranks in the stats that matter (you guess which ones they are)......#13, #8, and #7. All before the Saints game. AFTER they are #25, #11, and #15.

Yes, 1 game sample sizes matter. They change things.

They are NOT overachieving, and are exactly what they are...a .750% football team..as of now, and their ranks before the Saints game suggested a 11 win team. Avg. number of wins for teams with our average of ranks since 1994, is 10.7

You also really didn't take into account the strength of schedule, Saints have a great d, so do the Browns and apparently so do the Colts right now. We beat a team in the Falcons who nearly represented the NFC in the Super Bowl last season

We won our first 3 games because of the qb play.We lost last because of the qb play.The bottom line this team will go as far as tannehill can take them.They were 3-0 despite the fact they have nothing out of the 2013 draft class with the exception of the kicker.The free agent class has been a disapointment with the exception of grimes and maybe gibson.
