Seeing Tannehill return to doing what he did yesterday has really sapped any hope I had for this season.
As flawed as the Miami Dolphins are on defense and continue to be on the offensive line, Tannehill needed to be a way above average player for Miami to have any hope.
He not only failed to do that, but returned, again, to the sup-par player he's been accused of being throughout his whole career.
Miami's defense plays much better when the offense is killing clock and forcing the other team to press on offense to keep up with our scoring. 3 and outs and turnovers by our offense = our defense just lays down and dies, or lays down and lets itself be buggered (whichever metaphor works better).
Seeing Arizona beat up a gamer Redskins team tells me Miami probably won't win this week coming up. Miami beating Buffalo in Orchard Park (or whatever it's called) seems beyond unlikely.
Maybe we beat the Jets in NY, but by then we'll be dragging around with our tails between our legs and the will probably choke it up in the Meadowlands.
And then, this defense probably can't even stop the Patriots even if Brady and other starts are resting.
Honestly, once we lose our 6th game this season is over and we'd be better off losing every other game to get a decent draft pick. No one agrees with this because we're trying to 'set the tone' for 2017, but with having to get a new QB (cuz I'm not taking a 17-mil salary cap hit to pay Tannehill after the **** show he put on yesterday, another disastrous December performance by a chronic underachiever) and we'll be back in rebuild mode so 'setting the tone' is just lip-service crap.
Whatever 'moxie' Miami had during our streak was completely absent yesterday and what we saw was a team that was equal to the sum of its parts and its beyond obvious that Miami is drastically missing parts. Our secondary has been doing with with silly putty and mirrors, our linebacking corps is at least 2 players short of being NFL quality, and our passrush... what pass rush?
So, again, 2016, another season halted by simple gravity. The worst and scariest part is being shown, again, that we don't have a QB who can win games that have to be won by a QB.
Best case scenario is that Tannehill settles something to take a huge pay-cut to stay here, allowing us enough cap-room to create a good enough roster to compete next year, improving offensive line, linebackers, defensive backfield and maybe a pass-rusher so that we can win games without needing great QB play. If we NEED great QB play, we lose.

I change my mind, somewhat, on Tannehill. 2 of those interceptions were not really bad throws, but our guys did not make the play on those passes as well as the defender did. Still, having that 17 million dollar cap hit is really going to hamstring our hopes of improving the roster.

I said going into this game that it felt like a trap game and it certainly looked like most of the team fell for it. Hopefully this was a wake up call for them and they bounce back next weekend.

Tannehill was the least of our worries yesterday. He made two bad throws. The entire team **** the bed. The INT in the end zone was on Parker and was one of his best throws of the season.

yeah this fanbase flip flops fast. A week ago we were winning out and Superbowl bound. A bad game/loss and we're destined for a losing record.

After barely beating the 49'ers, I was still very 'wait and see' about our future.
It's still, unfortunately, in doubt about what we're going to do with Tannehill after the season. He's either going to count for 20 Million against the cap or we're going to cut him and he'll cost 3 mil against the cap. The third option, I suppose, is some kind of 'kick the can down the road' restructure. The 4th option is to cut him and hope that he'd re-sign but I'm not sure how this works.
If we knew that he was a guy capable of consistently (and that's the key word) putting the team on his back and winning games where the defense struggles (like Marino used to do, or Brees has done repeatedly throughout his career) then you pay him his money and do your best to fill whatever holes you can, knowing that you're still gonna have most of the problems we had this year continue to 2017.
There are 4 games left so, record be damned, this is Ryan Tannehill's audition and I hope Gase lets him do what he needs to do to show his value or lack thereof.PlayinHarder and Finster like this. -

That's what I've been thinking while reading through all these posts....it's absolutely disgusting. We win six out of seven and people want to fire the whole team. So sick of complaints about Tannehill's pay. Even at 20 million, he's going to be middle of the road for starting QB salary, if he's not already.

We finish 7-9, then Gase is no better than Philbin, and that is exactly why I dont see us finishing 7-9. Yesterday may turn out to be a good thing, lets see us face adversity, we did it before with Gase. We got our *** handed to us by the Titans, now not nearly as bad as this, but then we went on to win 6 straight. Playoffs or not, I want this team to finish strong. Next week is a telling game of what kind of coach we have with Gase. I hope he is not weak enough to let the wheels fall off and we get the 1-4 Dolphins again.

Ouch! Be careful.. someone might take that second bet of 2-1 or better against the AFC East. Realistically speaking you have at least as much a chance to lose that as to win that. Even the 2-2 at worst finish is risky but I think the odds are on your side.

Yeah, but nobody is going to take Aqua's bet since they were just making noise. And I feel pretty darn confident that we beat the Jets (because it's the 2016 Jets). The Pats always struggle in Miami and they'll be coming from 10 degree weather to low 70's. That means we run wild in the 4th quarter, so I think that's a pretty safe bet as well....and that's IF Brady even plays that game. He's pretty banged up and they're not going to risk him against our D line just for a shot at the #1 slot in the AFC.
So like I said, I feel very confident we win those two. The Buffalo game? Eh, that one has scared me about as much at the Baltimore game has all season long, because it's the exact opposite of the scenario I gave with the Pats. It's easier to play in cold than it is heat (when you're to used to one or the other), but it's still damn tough either way. -
A couple of things Key, if you are going to give us the benefit of the doubt vs the Pats based on past performances, then you must do the same vs the Jets, we have the Pats number, but the Jets have ours.
Also, temps in the low 70s is not going to affect anyone, yes, we may very well beat the Pats, but a 70 degree day won't have anything to do with it, we'll be wearing the colored uni's.KeyFin likes this. -
If you watched tonight's Jets game, the entire defense basically quit within the first three snaps. Poor Todd Bowles was cussing up a storm on the sideline and you could tell that he physically wanted to hurt someone. After they finally lost by 40+, Bowles said at the press conference that he's going to bench anyone who doesn't want to play anymore and start whoever does. He also added that the last four games are going to be focused on evaluating their rookie quarterback if they can manage to put together a line and someone to throw to.
I normally don't take games for granted BUT the Jets barely qualify as a NFL team at this point. The team has flat-out quit in every way they possibly can.
And you're right, a 70 degree day isn't torture on visiting players...they actually love the heck out of it in December. Yet we manhandled every opponent at home in November in the 4th quarter- opposing teams just looked tired. So while it may not seem like a factor, I think it is anyway.dolphin25 likes this. -

Seriously though, if you're making a case that the Jets are not our nemesis, what games have you been watching when we play the Jets? Did you see the game vs them in the middle of our streak? It took a long kick return to beat them, we were lucky to beat them.
Yeah, we were lucky to beat them, or else the Jets would have 4 in a row vs us, and when was the last time we swept the Jets?

I never said they were not our nemesis, I said they don't have our number. They swept us last year when we were horrible, every other season in the last decade we split (swept them in 2009). Yes, we needed a long kick return to beat them this season. We still beat them though.

The original post is a tad too doom and gloomy even for me. I think the most likely scenario is a 2-2 finish. Unfortunately that wont get us to the dance.

Upon the 6th loss, the season is over, and additional losses just get us a better draft pick.
After last night, my initial hunch does seem way out of line. I can't believe we could lose to this Jets team UNLESS we lose offensive linemen again, which is very possible.
After the way Buffalo folded vs Oakland, I could be wrong on that one, too. However, Tyrod Taylor usually plays his best football against Miami and Tannehill plays his worst football against Buffalo.
Beating a NE team that is usually resting guys by week 16 is a possibility, too. So, we could wind up at 10-6 but I highly doubt that puts us in the playoffs.
The Steelers could win-out, the Colts and Titans will be battling neck and neck, the Ravens will be right there and should own whatever leverage against us they would need, the Broncos and Chiefs are both ahead of us now. Our goose is cooked. We don't even have our best linebacker at full strength.
We're just looking for 'morale' here and I don't even know the value of that when it comes to missing the playoffs once again. -
I think that this team wouldn't have come out of the 4 game losing streak under Philbin.
