Last night was one of the more satisfying wins in recent history and not because of who we beat. Beating NE last year would take the prize there.
What was exciting last night is we saw a lot of things come together.
-Gesicki is turning out to be one of the better TE’s in the NFL
-Parker showed some toughness and grit that we didn’t see his first two years
-Gaskins is good even though the stat line doesn’t show it
-we saw a lot of production out of our new free agents
-we have so many rookies/younger players playing and/or contributing. For the first time in a long time, it looks like our drafts are paying off
-this 2020 draft might be one of the best in the last decade, even if Tua doesn’t pan out. Hopefully he does. We’ve got 4 starters and 5 people contributing already
-our coaches had a good gameplan and we executed
The BUT is we we have Seattle coming up and I’m sure some will go back to desperation and doom & gloom. I don’t think we’re at their level yet.

The issue as I see it is that the defense was horrendous until such time that the offense supplied it with a comfortable lead and one-dimensionalized the Jaguars' offense. That won't happen against many teams.

We desperately need our two stud corners to heal up though!resnor likes this. -
Our defense wasnt very encouraging. We did get more pressure once they started passing near exclusively, but that is to be expected. The Guy likes this. -
I think our real problem is and has for awhile been run stopping. I really think we have been bad at this since Joe Philbin was our coach. I think that problem compounds itself when we face running QBS.
I gotta think that will be a priority next offseason.Puka-head likes this. -

That cross country travel is tough on any team, but I don't think Miami wins...
3-7/4-6 at the bye is where I see it...Tua after the bye vs the Jets and Bengals before facing tougher competition. -
Watching this team this year, i've noticed that there is no "fools gold" about them. What you see is what you're getting. A young up and coming team that is learning how to play and win in this league. There's no fake hype about them, no high priced free agents massively underwhelming, we're feisty and competitive and this team has some grit to it finally. Myles Gaskin is proof that everything is going to be earned on this roster. He's pretty much beaten out both Breida and Howard for the starting job and I love that Flores has stuck with him despite Howard being the more expensive addition and Breida being the one we traded for. It also makes the Tua situation a lot more understandable. He needs more time. It was so nice to see us get a win last night. Nobody on pregame program picked us to win. Not only did we win, but we dominated that game.

Doesn't matter though. This is a development year and I was really happy we got that win. Coach needs it too, otherwise you start to lose the players if there isn't any evidence of improvement, and there was definitely improvement yesterday. -
Jacksonville went...
4 and out
9 and a touchdown
9 and turnover on downs
5 and out
5 and out
5 and turnover (fumble)
7 and turnover on downs
10 and touchdown
4 and turnover on downs
5 and turnover interception
The defense was playing just fine even prior to the 21-7 lead. They played well all nightKeyFin, mlb1399 and Dol-Fan Dupree like this. -
One glimmer of hope is Seattle doesn't travel well to south Fla..

To put that in perspective, the team that led the league in EPA per offensive play in 2019 was the Baltimore Ravens, with an EPA per play of 0.18.
An EPA per play of 0.47, with an average number of offensive plays in a game (63), yields an expected point total of 30. Obviously that would win a team the vast majority of its games in the league, and in fact it would've resulted in a roughly a tie during regulation last night, with all else equal, and not the easy 31-13 victory that actually occured.
No, the Dolphins' defense was garbage prior to the 21-7 lead, hence my point that it wasn't good until the Jaguars were one-dimensionalized on offense by the comfortable lead with which the Dolphins' offense supplied it.AGuyNamedAlex and mlb1399 like this. -
