I will bet he isn't OROY. A TE would pretty much have to play at a pro bowl level to get OROY, and the fact that Hernandez is at best like the #3 option there (probably not even that high) will completely limit his chances.

gronkowski has looked pretty good too. i would have loved hernandez here. i think the big problem for hernandez getting the roy or oroy is brady has alot of weapons to spread the ball around. i have to think its going to go to a rb like matthews or best who will probably put up monster numbers on their teams
-
RBs definitely have an advantage when it comes to offensive awards. They're very visible and get an instant workload on their new team. It's tough for, say, a rookie OT to win that award.
Ryan Mathews seems the obvious candidate to win OROY.Boik14 likes this. -
As a blocker, he won't amount to anything in the NFL, and that's a big reason he fell as well. The idea of making him into a wr makes sense, cause that's what he is. TE's in some aspects have to be just as good at blocking as a tackle, and hernandez will never be that in the nfl. Making the offense a little one dimensional when he is in the game. (kind of obvious they're going to pass when hes in)

Hernandez may very well be a good player but he is more Travis Beckum then Antonio Gates in my opinion. Hernandez is a 6'2/240lb tweener if he's playing WR. He doesnt have the jumping ability that some taller, heavier wr's have had in past years. He should be playing H-back like Beckum did or the Pats should be using a two TE set regularly to get him on the field. I just find this really amusing. Using him at WR would fall just short of using Joey Haynos at tailback.
-
Hernandez at WR =/= Haynos at TB. That's silly.
-
This is a spread offense after all. They'll split him out wide quite often. I don't think you'll see him blocking in line too often.

I didn't catch the game but I imagine that they wouldn't move him to wide receiver full time. I assume they will use him like a wide receiver, like San Diego does with Gates. They have Gates with short and long splits and sometimes comes off as a single receiver.
Regarding Hernandez's blocking skills, they are not great right but I think if they work on it, they could be. He's got pretty good strength IMO. Question is, how much would NE use the blocking skills? Besides, they've got Gronkowski to do the dirty work. -
IMO Hernandez has more than enough strength and athleticism to learn to block well enough. And as a receiving TE he is special. I expect that within three years he's capable of producing Whitten type numbers on a consistent basis. I think he becomes the third option on that NE offense this season and he will often be the first option in the red zone. I was not happy when NE took him. My feeling was that their offense needed a strong third receiving option to return to the dangerous levels they had a reached few years back and Hernandez has the talent to fill that role.

He is not a true TE.He is not a true WR .He is a hybrid and BB will know how to best employ his talents .Another dagger in their arsenal .

I wanted him in a Fins Uni.

To strong for me, would rather just have a couple of beers and chill out.
Something Hernandez should have done, now the patsies carrying 7 Te's on their TC roster makes a lot more sense, they expected him to get into problems over shooting the guy in the face along with gronk being nicked up.
He was a good prospect, he should have known better then to live that life in his position, imo if he had half a brain if he wanted to do that partying stuff he should have went overseas. -
