there is a bad moom rising in miami
Pennington, Hartline, Cobbs & Moses, the only bright spots on a wet & dismal night in the NFL for the Dolphins:
1)the Orca-5 looked more like CatFood than Predators
2)Henne needs to go back to school. terrible in every way. if Pennington goes down we are in big trouble. he made Beck look good.
3)SpecialTeams needs another coach & a serious injection of SpecialPlayers to bolster this pathetic unit. this has turned into priority one, if Miami wants to go anywhere this year.
4)did the entire team forget how to tackle? What's w/ a veteran like Torbor playing the role of an on-field street thug, during a game. Coaching?
5)Hilliard is skating thin ice. can't make a hole or block or even hold on to the ball. Polite has nothing to worry about Hilliard playing FB. horrible. He ran w/o conviction. won't be carried as an extra RB, after last night, back to the practice squad.
yes, yes, it was only a preseason
however
several patterns have arisen that are very troubling
& this was our dress rehearsal before the regular season.
not good. not good @ all. just plain ugly. hope it's not a bad moon rising in Miami
Saprano will probably have to risk the last preseason game to re-do the rehearsal.
can't go into the regular season playing this badly.
patience: it is what it is. we are in year two of the RebuildingProcess:
We Will Contend in 2010!

The Beck comparison was not necessary for Henne. He wasn't that bad. He can handle a snap so he's already light years ahead of where Beck ever was.
And while the Torbor penalty was foolish, it's no reason to question the coaching. That's one area we are absolutely fine in. You would have thought it was a playoff game based on Sparano's intensity on the sidelines.calphin and NJFINSFAN1 like this. -
Calm down its just one game and its pre-season. Lets worry about making the right cuts, staying healthy and kicking some Falkon ***.

I don't see how you can acknowledge that its preseason and then tell us the sky is failing based on a preseason performance...or even 3. Detroit went 4-0 last year. Just relax, and don't be that guy. -
I want to see how the forum saw the game
& get a reaction to what I consider to be
more than just one bad preseason game
I see it as a barometer to measure the team
and it suddenly doesn't look all that great to me
I have no problem w/ comparing Henne's performance w/ Beck
the two #2's look more alike than ever to me
I do blame the coaching for fundamental tactical & technical mistakes on the field
we played a team w/ a first time head coach,
in the first year of their rebuilding process, still learning their play book
it rained on both teams, the ball was wet on both sides. no excuses:no: we sucked big time
the problem was coaching:yes:the buck (no pun intended) stops with Sparano & staff -
Whew! When I first saw this thread, I thought Andre Risen was coming out of retirement.

"So when you see a glass of water and someone asks you if it is half empty or half full, do you run around screaming, that its a tsunami and we're all gonna die? "
no. I say coach the team up. it is the coaching cadre that is responsible for pouring water into the glass & keeping it in the glass.
I understand we are still rebuilding (year two) but it is my expectation they have to pour a little more into the half-filled glass, not slop what's in there all over the playing field.
I would give the players on the team a collective "C" but the coaching would get a failing grade.
I bet Parcells has got Tony on the phone as we speak. -
Secondly, there really is no comparison when it comes to Henne and Beck. Beck was awful in every aspect of the game. Henne has been solid in camp, has had some good preseason games, and played well in his only regular season action.
Our coaching staff, IMO, is the best we've had since a man named Shula. Sparano turned a 1-15 team into an 11-5 team. If you want to write him off over one not so great PRESEASON game, then I'm just not sure what else to say. -
Its a preseason game, you've no idea why decisions were made, or what exactly that we're trying to accomplish out there. The results mean nothing, and what you're classifying as awful performances can be easily placed on rain, 3 games in less than 2 weeks, or the coaches trying certain things for evaluations that we know nothing about. We know very little more today than we did 2 days ago. Considering this coaching staff turned the team from 1-15 to 11-5, I'd think they deserve a little patience before negative fans start calling for their heads, after a few preseason games.:pity:PhinsRock, mullingan and NJFINSFAN1 like this. -
is a bad moon rising over miami?
1) henne was pathetic, looked like beck to me
2) I am not criticizing last year, last year is over. they did good. I'm simply saying they are responsible for this year & it don't look good to me. the coaching cadre collectively have to step up or things will get increasingly ugly. last night was all about coaching & the more problematic part of the game (is not that we won) but that the Bucks exposed some negative patterns & weaknesses that have been in the making since the opening of training camp.
3) there is work to be done by all & it starts with the Head Coach recognizing what has to be done & doing it -
Well I think overall we looked.......not so great. I agree.
But I think there were some bright spots not mentioned.
1. ST we avg 30 yds on KO returns. So while ST is still an area of concern, Ginn and Cobb on KO returns were fine.
2. Camarillo had IMO the best play of the game. He grabbed a pass right at the sideline, put the brakes on, ducked a tackle, turned around and gave us a 52 yd reception. Most of those yards were yac, too.
I think we looked tired. (something CK actually pointed out) And I think it's a result of the 2 a days and playing two games in a short amount of time. I also think that is a result of the conditioning efforts. Once the season starts you won't see that, because the pre season conditioning will be paying off.mullingan likes this. -
Friend 23rd,
I'm wondering if you are bipolar? The other day you posted some immutable facts about how awesome our team was. Today you are claiming we stink because of a preseason game that we won. Which is it?
I enjoy your posting style, nicknames, etc. but I'm afraid I can't get behind this doom and gloom over a preseason game, brother.
Feel better! -
Good minds think alike brother :ffic:
Calm down Brother Rio.
What I saw:
Our defense got worn down due to the fluke blocked punt,BUT only gave up 6 points.
Pennington's arm is absolutely fine. That play action BOMB to Hartline on the run? Are you kidding me? That TD to Fasano? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? He looked more like a healthy Brett Fayvree out there.
Our secondary has a way's to go.
We will blitz often cause our base front can't pressure, but that was a good O-line they were going against.
Our MLB better learn how to tackle.
Hilliard was a low round draft pick and played at Montana for a reason. Anybody still think we will trade Ronnie or Ricky? -
If you expect any type of coaching victories in these games you will be disappointed. We barely ran anything other than cover-1 for most of the game. Seemed like we brought the same blitz packages every time as well.
-
no, I'm bisexual!
what kind of comment is that?
stand by my posts & see no conflict between the two
the word awesome is your invention not mine
I blame coaching for last night's performance
we should be a better team on the field @ this point
I give you my honest & unprofessional opinion
there are problems that must be corrected immediately
& these are problematic & developmental in nature
last night should serve as a warning shot
if Sparano doesn't pick up on it & make adjustments
it's going to be a very difficult second year of rebuilding
there is no doom & gloom. it is what it is:
We will Contend in 2010!
and if we want a decent season this year, they better coach up the team
(glad you enjoy my posts. maybe we could meet somewhere sometime & get to know eachother better) -

Something tells me that 23rd is taking a stance just to ruffle some feathers.
If anything, the offense just looked very very vanilla and blah. They all also had heavy legs from the workload they have endured over the past week and a half.
I do agree that the special teams unit is very scary right now. Too many big returns given up and not enough on our own side, but Fields is looking good and Carpenter booted a couple deep into the endzone for once.
Also keep in mind that Miami has yet to play a game where it hasn't been raining and a soggy mess.
Henne looking like Beck is just silly and stated only to create a stir on these boards. If you really feel he looked like Beck out there, than you haven't watched football before last night.
And Hilliard was on thin ice throughout training camp. That is what happens when you are the fourth string running back. We are blessed to have three runningbacks as good and versatile as Brown, Williams and Cobbs are. Lex is a luxury at this point.
And forgive me for being this way, but I will choose to NOT bash the coaching staff that took a 1-15 team to the playoffs within a calendar year. Something tells me they should be given the benefit of the doubt.PhinsRock, Trowa, Brown42000 and 6 others like this. -

You nailed it Sam. Only other thing I would add is that it was clear the coaching staff wanted to see different guy's in different roles. It's why Brian Hartlie started, instead of Davone Bess.
The High's and Low's of the preseason always amuse me.cnc66 likes this. -
Hilliard was getting hit in the backfield each play yet still had 30 something yards on 11 carries. I don't know how one sees this as not running hard.
Henne>Beck not even close and I was a beck fan.
PS
Moses is really turning it on. -
didn't mean to appear as to be bashing Tony & the Boys
just think they have to turn up the burners on this team
would never disrespect their potential or accomplishments
by the same token,
I hold them responsible to the very standards that they have established
I'm sure they're having a long hard look @ game film

Do teams game plan for the 3rd preseason game? I don't think they do.

Thursday night was their third game in 11 nights. For the second time, they played in a heavy rain.

Second Observations:
1) they did do some game planning for this encounter with the Bucks
2) it was considered as much a dress rehearsal in preparation of the first team to open up the season, as anything else. Pennington was supposed to go well into the 3rd. quarter w/ his starters. I suppose Sparano changed his mind about the QB & game plan because of the wet field & unfortunate first half of the game. They have had Hartline as a Starting WR, as they should.
3) this will probably (I'm guessing) create a "final preseason rehearsal for @ least the first half against the Saints. Something they would normally not like to do so near the opener.
4) I think this was a good game because it allowed the Coaching Cadre to calibrate this motley crew before the real season starts. And especially good, because we get all this information & a win in the same game.
5) liked the overall even handedness in the comments I've read on the thread. Appreciate the input, it has helped me rethink & evaluate as we move along.
(think this has been a hot thread? would love to be a fly on the wall in the Dolphin locker room. should see a reinvigorated team in their next outing.)
