Most advocated trying to sign an impact receiver in free agency instead of trying to find one in a draft without a sure-fire Julio Jones or A.J. Green-type prospect.
Support was split between Mike Wallace and Greg Jennings, with none expressing a preference for Dwayne Bowe, Wes Welker or anyone else.
The sense here is there’s a very good chance Miami will pursue Wallace, with Jennings also in the mix.

I think that article is full of reminders that even guys with proven/semi-proven records can come off sounding...wrong...when they're talking about things they don't know and haven't researched very well.
First off, according to the sources, Sean Smith isn't asking $8 or $9 million a year. The sources say they want an identical contract to what Jason McCourty got. That's a little above $7 million a year. And that's their starting point. It means they'd likely settle for just below $7 million a year.
Second, when has Mike Wallace ever been a problem child in Pittsburgh except about his contract?
Third, I'd like to know what Theismann meant by "they've gone the Dwayne Bowe route with Brandon Marshall". If he means a guy with questionable attitude who will present problems in your locker room, OK point taken. If he means just that Bowe is big and strong and makes tough catches and gets yards after the catch through his physicality, size and agility, what an incredibly stupid thing to say.
Last, why is Miami being argued as having been deficient in the red zone? They weren't the best, but they were decent in there I think.
Most of the other stuff they said made a lot of sense, to be fair.Gunner and GridIronKing34 like this. -
I'm actually wondering if the reason for inaction on Sean Smith is because his agent is the one that actually offered the most reasonable deal relative to what his client is really worth. The Dolphins might be figuring that once they initiate talks, that deal will get done quickly...so they don't need to go hot and heavy in that negotiation. They're further apart with Randy Starks, Jake Long and Brian Hartline, so there's been more discussion.

Hartline faster than Jennings... It's also funny how much negative stuff I'm hearing about Wallace, can't run routes, just a deep guy, drops too many balls.... You'd think teams were already negotiating with free agents, but that would be tampering as we all know. :shifty:

“He has been a problem child at times, and you went through that with Marshall,” said Ken Herock, a former Falcons and Packers executive who now prepares college players for interviews with NFL teams. “I would try to get Jennings.”
There's the quote of how he's been a problem child at times?? I don't recall anything other than contract issues, but if that carried over into the locker room, in Pittsburgh's eyes, then that why the problem child tag on him...

Incidentally, Long’s wife Jackie tweeted Thursday: “We want to be here if they want us. We’ll see what happens.”
I've been waiting to hear that..it's good to hear that Jake wants to stay here...lets check his *** out, makes sure he's gonna be strong, and make him an offer..
Having the question mark that Martin is at left tackle, and having another on the right is a scary proposition at this pont.ssmiami likes this. -
I don't mind letting Starks walk, moving Odrick inside, and then signing Michael Johnson to play end. Keeps options open at #12. -

We look into Bowe and kill that idea when we discover his character is not worthy of the size investment he would be.
We try to **** Wallace, but fail and walk home in the snow with blue balls.
We end up marrying Jennings, because he's getting to that age where his looks are starting to fade and he just wants to settle down.MAFishFan likes this. -

S&$ that's funny..I have more hope because I think his physical talent is legit, but you might be right in the big picture of why athletes do what they do in contract years, and how much passion they lose because of it, and how that relates to their game moving forward.
