I'm done questioning the team. There isn't anything for me to do but get upset at what I perceive as missteps this team has made.

As for the article I will leave it at this.. I sure hope that guy is right! If Henne isn't SOLID this year were in for another few years of change as Ross will toss Sparano and co and we will begin to rebuild once again thus ensuring another 4-5 years of half *** play.

 

I watched part of that top 100 players for 2011 show on NFL Network yesterday and during the Brady segment I heard Ray Lewis say something which is really relevant to us. Lewis said that the best (and easiest) way to beat cover 2 is by getting a back on LB. Last year Miami (and Henne) struggled against cover 2. In addition to the use of better route combinations, I think that Bush and Thomas as receivers out of the backfield will be instrumental in Miami faring better against that defense this season.

 

I had a problem with this little nugget from Theisman. How many guys at 30 or older do we have on the roster exactly? 6?

 

obviously these are analysts who have actually looked into the Phins and gave their opinions... one thing i think they will be off on though, is we are not going to be a run heavy team anymore... I think the pass will setup the run and we'll have some success, but we wont need it to be dominant to win...

 

Matchup wise you can go ahead and chalk up Cleveland, Oakland, Denver, Kansas City & Washington as W's IMO. Teams that rely on the running game to move the ball can fuhgetaboutit. We SHOULD also beat the Bills twice but the last two years we've given games away vs them. A split with both the Pats and Jets gets us to 9 wins. The 10-13th wins would have to come against Dallas-Philly-NYG-Houston-San Diego. I think the 3-6 wins talk is downright ******ed, 7-8 is reasonable but cautious, 9-10 sounds about right and with good health and luck 10-11 wins is not at all out of the question.

Tom Jackson and Herm Edwards continue to be the worst analysts on TV. I'm not even sure Jackson watches football anymore.

 

I'm not sure I'm ready to call KC an insta-win, but I like our chances. Of the final tier, I like our chances against the Giants, maybe Dallas. As for the rest, any given Sunday and all.

Fair point on KC, especially on the road. I just don't think they can hack it vs the better defenses in the league.

 

I was not that high on the Bush signing immediately. I preferred both Bradshaw and Sproles. Now Bradshaw signed for considerably more, so I don't think I can complain about that one, but Sproles seems like a very apples to apples comparison. That being said, I can't say I ever hated the Bush signing. He just wasn't my preference. And I said from the beginning that he does bring both that receiving mismatch we needed and the speed on the jet sweep. I just brought up the Lewis comment b/c I hadn't considered how much Bush would help against that specific defense we had so much trouble against. I was too focused on our failure to bring in a TE that could threaten the seam and thinking we hadn't done enough to rectify that area of struggle. I mean I knew that the back on the LB was a mismatch for the D (including cover 2), but I hadn't thought about how much that signing specifically addressed our struggles against cover 2.

I think it's a philosophy on the position thing. They seem to prioritize blocking over receiving. I believe that blocking is mostly about attitude and can be taught, but that speed, athleticism and receiving instincts are not, so those should be the priority. Hopefully they're right on Clay though. I like him, but it just seems like too big of a bet on a 6th round pick.

 

I think the deciding factor was Bush as the Receiver and the new kick off rules, that basically cut sproles value in half.

And Deej, John Denny is over 30, 26 starters, only Bell and Colombo and Denny are over 30.

well cutting ronnie, ricky and will allen may put us at the top, and having most of our draft picks making the 53 helps too.

I think Brown was far better (and my understanding is that we did make him an offer). I think we'll see Brown perform a lot better with the Eagles than RW will with the Ravens.

 

Until Henne puts it down when it starts to count, tomorrow, you will have guys that believe in him, and those that don't. I mean, look at SF with Alex Smith. Last two years statistically has been better than Henne's. That is how the rest of the football watching world sees Henne. And until he proves them wrong, who are we to say they're wrong?

We need to stop overanalyzing the analyzers. They start to play ball this weekend.

IMO, many of these "analysts" Herm included just follow the consensus and dont do their own research. They just look at the fact Miami looked to replace him & his stats last year and pigeon hole him as a outcast & inept. Phil Simms has a more accurate perception and I'm with him. Bottom line is pre- season, while it shows improvement isn't going to sway anyone opinion and shouldn't, until the performance on the field improves when it counts. BUT if Henne is a stock on the NYSE, it's a stock on the rise...

We kick to the curb two starting NFL QB's. Only Chad Henne can prove his real worth on the playing field. We shall see...

 

I think the instincts knock is overblown b/c Brown does not hit the hole as quickly so he isn't as effective in the types of runs that Henning called. We'll see this year which back is more effective as I believe that they are both with OCs that will use them more effectively. I expect that after the season Brown will have been the more productive back.

I agree. Simms is the only one of that group who evens mentioned Henne's talent level. That seems to indicate that he is the only one of them that actually bothered to evaluate Henne's talent level rather than just look at the result and place all the blame on the QB. Whether his perception is more accurate is an open question, but his perception was clearly based on a more complete picture than that of the other analysts there.

 

That's why I come here among real fans & ignore the media. As a scout, many times I'd laugh my butt off listening to most of them dicuss topics they really had no insight on. "they" love, as I call it, just using blanket statements. To me, the most clueless is Herm Edwards, .... I could name more.... But you get the idea.

 

watch the saints /49ers game last year pat willis is considered the best mlb and lb period ,reggie comes out of the backfield willis is covering, reggie sticks his foot in the ground and leaves willis in the dust for a 10 yd or so td. that is what he brings, a mismatch. if pat willis can't cover him no other lb will either.

 

Good point and a nice example. I don't think you'll get much argument that Willis is the best middle LB right now.

 

I don't agree that the Jets are as good as these analysts say. They are a good running and defending team but Sanchez is the the most over rated QB in the NFL. He still can not read a defence and if defences held on to balls, Sanchez would have made more interceptions than anyone can count. Sanchez will unravel this year and the Jets will not win as many games.

 

Instead of someone having the intuitive intellect to say, Henne is showing a better presence in the pocket, showing more athleticism and being surrounded with an improved cast( RB & a newly charged BM) utilized more wisely by a OC with " taking the attack" intellect in regards to mismatches..... We just hear the " what he did last year" observations. A person with talent could see what's on the horizon vs what in the past. We call the " ones" with insight... the knowledgeable FB personalities. Unfortunately .... These are few and far inbetween. Phil Simms has a better grasp of potential than most, even though hes not the most popular by any means. I think with Bush having the history of missing games, DT being a rookie RB and a new OC, that struggles are going to be certain, but all in all... A much better offensive year. The o-line is my biggest concern, but I also feel that the running game will be a three yard pass & PBlking will be the key. We'll see how it unfolds. Excuse any typo's.... I'm on my phone:)

Luke McCown has never been a Dolphin. His brother Josh was with the team in 2008 preseason. Grossman beat out Beck for the starting job with the Skins. So, your complaints are unfounded.
