Good to hear...never was a fan of making him our number 1 pick

Smokescreen!!
Wait, there's nothing to be gained by excluding Ryan. Never mind.like2god, DOLPHAN1, inFINSible and 1 other person like this. -

Good. I don't think he's worth number 1 money and I think we need to give Beck more than 6 games to prove himself.

I think we should go after Flacco with the 2B pick, if we decide to draft a QB. I don't think Ryan will be a bust but I think we have other needs.

This Johnson kid with 42 TD's to only 1 INT intrigues me. He and Matt Flynn who I also like could either one be had in rounds 6 or 7 I believe, and that gives us a viable 3rd QB that doesn't put pressure on the Beck/McCown situation. I have never felt Ryan was a viable #1 pick nor that it made any sense to take a QB this high when we just took Beck in the 2nd round last year. Give Beck a chance, with a decent OL and running game, and he will show why we drafted him so high. Although cough cough my son Josh cough cough, Beck might not win the starting job either. Regardless Ryan never did make sense for us.
And to steal a line from another thread in here: cue adamprez in 5, 4, 3, 2, . . . -
Thank god

Several things.
If Johnson is still there with our second 7th, I think he is an option..but only if we dont get Flynn in the 6th (I love that kid from LSU)
Second, where on earth did you get that Adam countdown....5, 4, 3, 2,.....:escape: -
yeah if we are able to bag Flacco we still have a chance at salvaging a QB out of this draft. Otherwise wait until the 7th and draft Bernard Morris because everyone else is just a backup (other than Brohm who should be gone) Or wait until Free Agency and get Anthony Morelli. If we dont get any of these, we have to hope Beck or McCown shines or a college QB catches fire or Donovan McNabb wants to come here (not my personal choice but it fits with the Parcells vet tendency)

Shame. While Ryan may not be worth the first overall pick, we desperately need to spend a high first round pick on a quality, starting-caliber QB, and we have for something like 15 years. We've rolled the dice on later round QBs and it's come up snakeeyes. We drafted Beck in the second and while the jury is still out, he is certainly not a no-brainer star-quality NFL QB. We need to get some real talent at that position.

I agree, I don't think Ryan is on the radar. I got a good feeling Michigan QB Chad Henne.
My projection now is #1 Jake Long, #2 Chad Henne ? if come draft time they are not feeling comfortable with Beck. -

Why do I get a feeling I'm watching a rerun of Wannstedt/ Fiedler II with Sparano and Beck playing the leading roles this time
-
Dear god no Flacco. When are we going to stop drooling over arm strength? We want to say Brennan didn't play against competition who did Flacco play against? I like Josh Johnson too, his numbers are what you want to see in Div II, and he did well in the Shrine game I believe.
And Georgia overwhelmed Hawaii's Oline I watched that game. I couldn't tell how well Brennan was doing because he was getting swarmed. I think someone is going to get a surprise with Brennan. He did very well at the combine and looked excellent on his proday making NFL throws.

Bottom line- there is no reason to even equate Beck with Fiedler at this juncture. The circumstances are completely different. Fiedler was a journeyman and Beck is a rookie who played 4 games for a putrid team with no offensive line, no running game, and no weapons to speak of. Fiedler was never anything more than average. Beck could prove to be much more than that, and he could also prove to be the same or less. It's far too soon to even entertain the idea of that comparison.
If the team miraculously ended up taking Mat Ryan this year (not going to happen), and he stunk up the joint in limited play time, would you be calling for another QB to be drafted immediately?Last edited: Apr 10, 2008Themole likes this. -
Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you're chewing life's gristle,
Don't grumble,
Give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best.
And...
Always look on the bright side of life.
[whistle]
Always look on the light side of life.

If life seems jolly rotten,
There's something you've forgotten,
And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing.
When you're feeling in the dumps,
Don't be silly chumps.
Just purse your lips and whistle.
That's the thing.
And...
Always look on the bright side of life.

Always look on the right side of life,

For life is quite absurd
And death's the final word.
You must always face the curtain with a bow.
Forget about your sin.
Give the audience a grin.
Enjoy it. It's your last chance, anyhow.
So,...
Always look on the bright side of death,
[whistle]
Just before you draw your terminal breath.

Life's a piece of ****,
When you look at it.
Life's a laugh and death's a joke it's true.
You'll see it's all a show.
Keep 'em laughing as you go.
Just remember that the last laugh is on you.
And...
Always look on the bright side of life.
Always look on the right side of life.

Always look on the bright side of life!

And I agree Flynn would be my first choice too, but if we don't take him, or he is taken before we get to him, the Johnson kid has a lot of upside IMO.
