My shoulder gets sore just thinking about John Beck’s off-season.
Looking to put a shaky rookie season behind him, Beck has been working overtime.
“He’s thrown close to 4,000 balls here with (QBs coach) David Lee,” GM Jeff Ireland said.
And Beck surely is spending even more time and energy in the film room.
This is the same guy who had his wife running pass patterns in their living room last season or spent a day at Disneyland with his kid day dreaming about two-a-days.
Beck’s dedication and hard work doesn’t mean he’ll win the starting job over Josh McCown, a six-year veteran with 31 starts whom the Dolphins signed last month.
But Beck, 26, should have a leg up on whoever the Dolphins pick up next week in the NFL draft. The team could use the first pick of the second round (No. 32) to grab one of the top QBs available or wait until pick No. 57 or No. 64, if not later.
With the team’s QB of the future undecided, Ireland said anything could happen in the coming months with Beck and Co.
He’s done a nice job trying to develop (Beck),” Ireland said of Lee. “There’s a comfort level here, but anything can happen in the draft.”
