In the wake of an embarrassing 40-0 loss to the Ravens, it is clear the Same Old Dolphins have not yet left the building. That realization left Gase frustrated, angry, and even more determined to instill a culture of winning in his own image, short term consequences be damned. High profile players like CB Byron Maxwell and RB Jay Ajayi, who did not fully subscribe to Gase’s approach, were shipped out. Other players who will do the job his way were promoted.
What price is too high to pay to achieve a winning culture?
Almost none. That’s why bemoaning a fourth round pick for Ajayi misses the big picture entirely.
No one is more important than the team.
And so, at the midway point of the season, Gase now finds himself in a battle with his players to embrace the desired behaviors each and every day. That means being on time, paying attention, studying the playbook and the game plan, knowing opponent’s tendencies, and executing assignments with maximum effort and proper technique.
Not all agree with how Gase wants things done, which is a big reason why the Same Old Dolphins continue to lose. And when you have players who are mentally undisciplined and continue doing things “their way”, it becomes a battle for the identity of the club…which is nothing less than a challenge to Gase’s remit.
That’s why it’s wrong to criticize Gase for giving Ajayi away, blaming it on his inadequacies as a leader or comparing it to a move Joe Philbin might have made. It’s a shallow, emotional reaction. A deeper look reveals a principled decision by a leader with deep conviction as to how things ought to be.

Play calling looked pretty good when he didn’t have an identity of one dimensional football..
I blame him for continuing to allow Ajayi to dictate the game-plan, that’s on him...so you do have a valid point..

I do agree with ignoring talent and promoting or moving people out with attitude issues. I think he is walking a very fine line though, each time he throws his team under the bus. I like a coach to be straightforward, but at times Gase is just venting, almost whining about his team. I hope that isn't his undoing because he has a lot of positives going for him. I like his intensity.
Well, I won't lie, I'm about as pessimistic, jaded and cynical as a fan can be, haha, so I tend to take that kind of rah rah stuff with a grain of salt.
I like Gase. I like his vibe. I dig his charisma. I think he can be a players' coach but he's also someone who can probably hold his guys accountable. He's been around veteran coaches like John Fox and he's been around quality players.
That all sounds a bit like Mike Tomlin to me. I wonder why that comparison hasn't been made because now that it's dawned on me I think it fits.
But there's still a whole heck of a lot Miami needs to get corrected before we start patting anyone on the back. The roster is questionable. The entire offense might be blown up this off-season. We might lose our star WR. Tannehill may not even be the right QB for the team in the long run.
Point is, there's A LONG way to go. Miami is far from being where they want to be and quite frankly, we're still in the honeymoon phase with our new HC so keep that in mind.
I said early in the Philbin days that a coach shouldn't be questioned early on. You need to let him implement his strategy. Not until it's 100% clear that the strategy is insufficient should you bail. But you should commit.
Like the author, I agree that Gase has an air of legitimacy about him. I hope the franchise can get behind that.

I disagree. The top 3 coaches for me in the SB era (so leaving Lombardi out because most of what he did was before that) are Shula, Belichick and Walsh in no particular order. Shula because of total wins (347), 2 SB's and that perfect season, Belichick because of 5 SB's (most in the SB era) and the fact he's doing this under a salary cap, and Walsh because he revolutionized the game with the West Coast offense and won 3 SB's with it.
Not sure when Belichick will retire, but if he keeps up his winning ways he'll need about 7 more ~12-win seasons (including 2017) to match the win total by Shula. I'm guessing he'll retire before that happens, but 5 SB's in the salary cap era? Yeah that for me puts him in the upper-most class of NFL coaches in history.

18-0 NE losing to the Giants so that the '72 Dolphins remained the ONLY perfect team was for me the best moment in 21st century NFL history. And that helmet catch was for me the greatest catch ever.

Honestly, Gase has never thrown his guys under the bus, the one time he did call them out he backed up his words, traded Ajayi and the offense actually got better.
Not sure where this "Gase throws guys under the bus" thing is coming from.

if this had happened, I agree. We'd be sitting prettier. But I will add this, Having Tannehill back after surgery last Nov, should have still pushed us to draft a qb this year. Miami cannot continue to gamble, pull the trigger in April

I must be reading the stats wrong, I swear Gace's O in LAST in the league right now, and Gace was supposed to be an O guru, seems many are just use to sucking and because they wear a Dolphin uniform that makes them good.

It's true we are last with 14.5 ppg on offense. So here's a goal for tonight: score 28 points so that we can just barely beat out the legendary Cleveland Browns and improve to 2nd worst on offense! (we'd have 16 ppg if we score 28 points)
One step at a time haha.
btw.. things can change quite a lot over half a season. We used to be top 5 in defense early in the season, but now are average rank. Same with Buffalo who were #1 in defense, but are now 15th.
So let's wait till the end of the season before crucifying Gase. He does seem better at making adjustments than some previous coaches we've had so there's at least SOME hope lol.

Lol...your right...hes far from a Shula..who leads the NFL with 347 Wins in his career. No other coach is Don Shula. Making Don Shula your benchmark is just as stupid as making Dan Marino your benchmark.

Whether or not he has the other ingredients to complete the mixture is another question. He's supposed to be very intelligent with a strong grasp of the game and we've also heard a lot about him being liked by the team.
Both of those are useful, however, the questions about those, the flip-sides of those characteristics, are 1) is he too theoretical with ideas doomed to fail in reality, 2) is he unable to adjust his thinking to account for the talent he has, 3) how deep do the disagreements run within the roster and does that mean the players lack respect for him?
Leadership is hard. Putting all the pieces together is something of an art. Gase seems like he has all the tools he needs, but can he make it work, or will it be a failed experiment?

Uh. Evidently not. Boatloads of reports said that it would always be a partial tear. Ligaments don't heal on their own. If they are torn they stay torn. So the plan was to have our QB AKA the most sacked QB in league history in his first X years behind a line we hadn't spent any money on to fix was going to somehow not get hit in a way to hurt the knee that got injured by a defender penetrating our crap line and hitting it....yeah sounds like a freaking brilliant plan. Was a fluke it didn't work out obviously.

His team went to the playoffs last year. It seems he made something out of what many on this forum said was a crappy team. We are where we were at the same point in this season as we were last year. So just where does your script account for that?
