I believe I have now figured out for sure what is wrong with this picture.
If it is true that Joe Philbin is going to rest the future of this team in the hands of Ben Mcadoo, we are screwed. Joe Philbin needs the ax, preferably one with a dull blade.
I just can't believe what I am reading.

Let's take it a step further. Do you trust Joe Philbin to make this type of decision after the obviously poor last decision?

The Dolphins’ search for Sherman’s replacement will presumably begin immediately. The leading candidate is Ben McAdoo, the Packers’ quarterbacks coach who worked with Philbin in Green Bay, according to a league source.
McAdoo, 36, coached the Packers’ tight ends for six seasons before moving to the quarterbacks room in 2012.

It's not that I have something personal against him. I am not high on any of the coaches that Philbin personally hand selected. It seems silly to let him have another shot at what fundamentally is a huge decision since Philbin will entrust this person to call our play's and literally dictate who we are as a team.

When Shanahan and Kubiak were together in Houston. Shanahan was excellent at hybridizing his Offense to fit the players he had. When he left Houston they fell off enough that you knew it was because he was gone. I like a guy who improvises and thinks outside the box.

Why would you want Philbin to select a coach that he didn't want?
It seems much sillier to have him not hand select his offensive coordinator. That is his job. -

Yea, I am fine with it. I like the idea of having someone not experienced so he can develop his own style instead of falling on his old ideals.Pariah likes this.

McAdoo is not that bad. He is a good TE coach and was a O line coach before that. Heard a rumor Philbin wanted him when he came but the packers wouldn't let him go. He was still under contract. And lets face it TE development a Oline development is what we really need

So 2socks wants a name. Have we not learned our lesson on grabbing guys just because they are a name? Enough with the re-tread coaches who shat the bed here. I like the idea of a young up and comer like Ben who is only 36 yet has a decade of exp in a highly productive offense. If he can wow the staff at the meetings and come in prepared then lets do it. Remember Philbin had very much the same sort of resume when he became coach.
I'd rather see which of these re-tread coaches doesn't get an OC job and then bring them in to coach QB's. Veteran QB coaching is exactly what Tanny needs.cuchulainn and Pariah like this. -

Then everyone will blame Ireland and Philbin because we can't score points. NAh...no thanks bring in someone with a proven track record.
Anything less is built in denial later on.
The way I see it is Ireland will voice his opinion to Ross privately and maybe to Philbin directly. But, holding Ireland accountable for someone else's Hire is ridiculous.
Most likely the reason Ireland will be retained. I believe Ireland had little to do with the Hiring of Philbin.
Flashback 2011:
The Dolphins began their coaching search late in the 2011 regular season after they fired then-head coach Tony Sparano after nearly four years on the job. After getting turned down by Bill Cowher, Jon Gruden, and Jeff Fisher, the Fins started to look in the coordinator ranks in the NFL.
A first-round of interviews was conducted and the field was eventually narrowed down to two candidates: Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin and Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, with Philbin eventually winning the job.
“I want to thank Steve Ross and Jeff Ireland for giving me the opportunity to become the head coach of one of the premier franchises in professional sports,” said Philbin. “I also want to thank the Green Bay Packers for all the support the organization has given me during my time there. The Dolphins have a strong nucleus to build around, and working with everyone in the organization, I know that together we will return the team to its winning tradition. I have seen how much the fans in South Florida care about the Dolphins, and that passion is one reason why I’m really excited to be here. I’m looking forward to their support, and I can’t wait to get started.”
Philbin has been the offensive coordinator with the Green Bay Packers since 2007. Ever since Philbin took over, his offense has been ranked in the top 10 in points scored and total yards every season.
In four seasons at the helm of the Packers’ prolific offense, the team scored 1,703 points and committed just 83 turnovers. The turnovers ranked the Packers first in the NFC and second only to New England in the NFL during the four-year span.
Green Bay has reached the playoffs in three of Philbin’s four seasons as offensive coordinator. In each of those appearances, the Packers set team postseason records for most points in a game, with 42 vs. Seattle in ’07, 45 at Arizona in ’09, and 48 at Atlanta in ’10.
During the 2008-2009 season, the Packers, under Philbin’s tutelage, became the first team in NFL history to have a 4,000 yard passer; 1,200 yard rusher, and two 1,000 yard receivers in back to back season.
Philbin was blessed with good players thanks to general manager Ted Thompson’s stellar drafts year after year. That may not necessarily be the case in Miami, where general manager Jeff Ireland has managed to leave Fins fans longing for better drafts.
The only question surrounding Philbin was how much of the Packers’ success on offense was from him or from head coach Mike McCarthy. Philbin didn’t call his own plays in Green Bay, but he did develop and install the game plan each week.
The new Dolphins coach has never been a head coach in either the college ranks or in the National Football League, but has been in the NFL since 2003.

As I said no big name coordinator is going to an unstable situation where the GM and head coach job is on the line. They got families to uproot when they accept jobs, they're not going to a one year deal here if Philbin fails again in 2014 and gets fired. So what ever, Ben McAdoo it is, this is his one shot.
This is not how I like it to be and I don't support this at all, but the reality of all this is there on our faces.
When Philbin showed his support for Sherman last week based on Tannehill's lost confidence, and then Philbin is forced to let Sherman go, I mean this is just an ugly, ugly situation. Proven coaches around the league are seeing this and will not want anything to do with the coordinator job.
And I don't even think Ross is on either Philbin's or Ireland's side, he's on Tannehill's side, Tannehill didn't want Sherman, Philbin did want him though, Sherman is fired. So who knows, maybe Tannehill will have his say on who the coordinator is (though as I said, it will be very limited as I don't think coaches will want the job). -
Except the 8 year old in this case will be a grown man with a fully developed brain but lets forget that so you can make a ridiculous analogy work.

:huh: He wont be coming here to coach TEs or O line. Someone else will occupy those jobs. I'm stunned that your initial thought about hiring a guy to run the offense and call plays is what type of TE and Oline coach he is.

Norv Turner, Mike Mularkey, Scott Linehan, Chan Gailey, Cam Cameron (HC and OC), even Dan Henning was considered a positive when he first started. All 'name' OC's who weren't the answer since Marino retired. And you want to add to that trend. Meanwhile the good teams pick up these guys from obscurity and keep on rolling.Colmax likes this.
