The only competition the Dolphins have for Peyton Manning's services is the Colts. If Indy chooses to draft Luck, Manning is gone to Miami, if they pass on Luck Manning stays in Indy. Please follow us Twitter@bigoshow for more draft & combine nuggets, show news & giveaways.

If they pass on Luck we better be the one's they are passing him to.

that actually has me worried, depending on who's perspective that is: from Manning or from the other NFL teams. If it's the latter and we're the only NFL team that's interested, we've got some serious blinders on. If it's the former, and Manning only has eyes for us outside of the great-boring city of Indianapolis, then it's not so bad.

I don't like the shortcut aspect to this, but landing Manning could really help us for a time, like KC launching to have the best record in the 90's when they landed Montana.

I've got a hard time believing that the Big O is a source for original inside information.

it's not like anyone here has a say in this. -
We won't be the only team. I'm sure the Redskins, Cardinals, possibly Seahawks and maybe Jets will want in. But the feeling seems to be it would take an Albert Pujols/Angels type surprise for him to go to Arizona or Washington. It can happen, but it seems unlikely.
Colts, Dolphins or outside shot with the Cardinals seems to be the case. But it's definitely possible Dolphins or Manning change their mind, but I don't see why it's far fetched that the Dolphins are the favorites right now. I don't have any problem believing Big O...he doesn't normally mention this kind of stuff. I know people don't like him because he talks crap about the franchise, but that's because they've been crap for 10 years.
With Ireland's comments that they don't have to go long term (since the only option seems to be Flynn and that's just as dangerous as Manning) and the fact that they would actually sell tickets. Remember the non-divisional games (and non-Bronco/Eagle games)? there were barely 50,000 people in the stadium. The increase in ticket sales would probably pay for Manning's contract itself. -
Colts were just not THAT talented, when Manning went down, I mentioned to someone they were going to be dreadful because they missed on several high draft picks, did not shore up the OL, and were old, Manning or not, they were not going to be very successful.Adam Strange and shula_guy like this. -

Manning is going to be a disaster. im terrified.

Keep in mind Joe Montana was considered done in the NFL, to the point the 49ers offered to pay him millions back when millions meant something, to retire, he went on to KC and had a lot of success.
Downside is Bert Jones had a neck problem and was traded to the Rams and lasted 4 gms and was done with a neck problem.

This is Dolphins country! -

This doesn't necessarily mean other teams won't make a play for him. It could mean that we're one of only two teams that have a realistic chance of landing him. Zona owes Kolb too much money and Miami seems to just be a better destination than the other possibilities.
Not that I buy the report.shula_guy likes this. -
At the same time, KC also signed Marcus Allen as a UFA.
Joe had some big games for KC. He beat Elway and the Broncos and also beat SF and Steve Young once too, while with KC. KC went 17-8 in games Joe started. Not bad at all. -

And it isn't like Peyton was replaced with even an average QB between Painter and a rushed old-man in Collins.
Drew Brees set an NFL record by completing 71.2% of his passes this year. The Colts defense had 71.2% of the passes against them completed, gave up 25 TD passes to only 8 interceptions and the opposing QBs had a 103.9 QB rating. The run defense made up for that thought by finishing 29th in rush yards given up with 2,303 and only the Rams defense gave up more rushing TDs than the Colts defense. Considering Manning doesn't play defense this team was clearly on the slide.shula_guy likes this. -
IIRC, he had a bad back(?) -
If we do make a play for Manning, we had better be ONE HUNDRED PERCENT F&CKING SURE he's not only HEALTHY but still has the ABILITY to play at the level he's 0played throughout his career.
Anything short of that has the realitisc potential for an epic disaster...especially if Manning gets hit hard and breaks his neck, lying paralyzed on the middle of the field.pumpdogs and texanphinatic like this. -

Seeing as he has been cleared and assured that if he were the son of the doctor , he would recommend his son to play again , and that that aspect is stronger than pre injury , that should not be a concern.
If there was 100% assurance that Manning was at the same exact previous level he wouldn't be available. He sure as heck wouldn't potentially be available for no acquisition cost. -
And you're right. If he's healthy, he won't be available. The only way we get Manning is if he's not healthy and we pass up Flynn while we wait and hope Manning eventually recovers. -

Chris Mortensen talked to the Finsiders. He said he thinks Miami will be the destination, and he said Peyton is throwing better and making faster progress than some of the reports claim. -

IMO, the fans thinking that they will be getting the Peyton Manning they are used to seeing are in for a rude awakening. Think Dan Marino late in the 1999 season, and think about what Dan probably would have looked like had he not been forced out by Dave Wannstedt.pumpdogs and texanphinatic like this. -

If Indy is completely sold on Luck then I don't see them keeping Peyton without him taking a big paycut.
That team is in rebuilding mode with or without Manning, imo. Looking at the long-term it doesn't make financial sense.
