I disagree. His make or break year was this year, and he made it.

Brian Billick graded Thill a B. I agree with his teams final grade of C but those grades in total don't add up to a C. He over graded the offense and defense IMO.

Yup. We get our first good QB since Marino and some want to jettison him cause he's not great (yet). That is insane.MAFishFan likes this. -

I'm guessing they'll pick up his option and try to extend him before the season starts.MAFishFan likes this. -

Just makes you wonder what happened to Andrew Luck against the Patriots in the AFC Championship game...

Next year is most definitely a make or break season for Tannehill.
For or him to remain the long term starter, he is going to have to lead the team to the playoffs next year. By doing this, it will save Philbin's job, as well as Hickey's job. Both these men have shown their faith in Tannehill so far and by leading the team to the playoffs Tannehill will also show that he has taken his game to a higher level.
If on the otherhand the Dolphins once again fail to make the playoffs and Philbin and Hickey are fired, the next HC and GM may not want to tie up a lot of cap money on a QB who failed to lead his team to the playoffs after four years as the teams starting QB.
Next year should be a make or break year for Philbin, Hickey, Tannehill, and many of the other veterans on the roster. There are no more excuses after four years. It is playoffs or bust next season and if it turns out bust, it will be time to start the rebuilding process over with a new regime and a new starting QB.gunn34 likes this. -

So Matt Ryan is a perfect comparison to Tannehill in this regard.Clark Kent, PhinFan1968, Larry Little and 4 others like this. -
Tannehill has never even led the Dolphins to a winning season, much less into the playoffs.
I am certainly willing to see how next season turns out before calling for Tannehill to be replaced.
As I stated, if he leads them to the playoffs, that will keep everything status quo with the coaching staff and GM. It will also prove that Tannehill has the ability to lead this team to enough wins to get them into the playoffs.
There just hasn't been very many QB's who have been the starting QB for a team for four years who failed to lead his team to the playoffs and kept his job when a new coaching staff took over.
I have always seen next year as a make or break year for Tannehill. He needs to prove he can be a leader the other players believe in.
I am not as convinced as some on here that he is the long term answer for the Dolphins, but I certainly hope he proves he is.
I also am not as impressed by his passing stats as some others are. His TD to interception ratio was good, but his yards gained per attempt was near the bottom when compared to other QB's in the NFL. Basically he has shown that he is a very good passer if he is dumping the ball off or throwing short passes, but he remains inaccurate on passes down the field.
Hopefully he will continue to improve, but a sub 500 QB after three years should never feel like he has nothing to worry about in regards to his position on the team. Right now he is better than anyone else they have on the roster at the position and better that the free agent QB's. I won't argue that.
So it is his job next year and it is his year to prove he deserves to be the long term answer for the Dolphins at the QB position. To me, he has yet to prove that he is. -

Tannehill is going nowhere. He's here for the long haul.
The question is, will he take that next step or will he always be almost good enough? A Jay Cutler, an Andy Dalton, even what people (wrongfully) felt about Tony Romo. At the end of the day you gotta stop making excuses for him and he needs to deliver. You're not always going to have a strong running game and a strong defense. Drew Brees led some pretty awful defenses to the playoffs quite a few times, including their Superbowl year where they were 25th in total defense and 20th in pts allowed. -
Tannehill has already proven himself to me. He's gotten progressively better each and every season and he's getting more and more comfortable as a leader.
He's here for good, as he should be.
Fix the defense and we're a playoff team.RGF, PhinFan1968, Larry Little and 3 others like this. -

I believe they will take the 5th year option on Tannehill. It's also possible the next coach likes Tannehill and we find out that it was poor coaching losing games and not the offense or defense.

Just stop. Stop it. Good lord.

Tannehill has failed year after year after year. We should be done with this guy.
Wow he has a high completion % on short passes.
Losses any big game he is in (badly)
no pocket presence
Can't evade a rush
Can't extend plays
Constantly checks down
Can't hit the deep ball -
There is little doubt that Tannehill must continue to improve. I do not doubt he will since he has improved every season. -
Here is another interesting take on Tannehill.

THere's nothing to lose by taking the 5th year option on Tannehill. If he would have connected on more of the long balls, we'd probably have made the playoffs. They're probably weighing the $20M transition tag to the cost of a long term deal with at least $50M guaranteed. Salary cap wise, taking the hit this year would be the safest bet as opposed to $50M strapping the team long term if a new regeim decides T'hill isn't the guy. Either way, I have no doubt they'll make the wrong choice as usual. I wouldn't mind as much if they tank this year rather than if they tanked and hindered the teams future cap space.

but he improved in some other areas.
I wonder how many conversations have happened where the coaches sit him down and say ok, see this third down situation, if your first and 2nd read isn't there, just take off and get what you can, from what we've seen that convo has either never happened or he's a dear caught in head lights, cause that component is pretty much non existant...pretty weird if you ask me, and why theres criticism about situational 3rd down awareness.Clark Kent likes this. -
This is Philbin's make-or-break year, not Tanneyhill's. When Philbin fails (and I have every confidence he will because he sucks and should have been fired already) Tanny will still be around for whoever the new HC is. The new HC won't get rid of him unless someone better is available in next year's draft or via FA.

From the clown:
Team game.
So if the defense does their ****ing job 2 or 3 times this season, we win 11 games and are in the playoffs.
