The punishment is a joke on the Brady end, especially after they cut it on appeal.

I would love them to finish with the first overall pick, I can dream can't I?

too light on Brady considering he was uncooperative with investigation, but the fact that they hammered the Patsies too makes it satisfying.

On another note, I'm sure someone will chime in that "upon appeal, it will get reduced to 2 games", like its some foregone conclusion. I beg to differ. Goddell is the guy who you appeal to. I see the 4 games sticking. -
Now we know the price of a SuperBowl in the leagues mind!

We still have to face Brady twice (Week 8 & Week 17) I think we need to start 4-0 or 3-1.

Hell ya that punishment on Brady is a joke...he's been doing it for MANY years...even petitioned the league to change rules about footballs so he could more EASILY do it.
Should've been a full season IMO...anything less is supporting systematic cheating, with a Super Bowl cherry on top.dolphindebby, Mongo, Wayne Kjelsrud and 3 others like this. -

Anyone who thinks this was a one time thing is just out of it. These guys are filthy with cheating anyway they can whenever they can. It should have been far more severe.

Probably go 2-2 those first 4 games. Glad they followed through and smacked em, but I definitely think it would have been worse on someone other than Brady and New England.
-
[EDIT] and I see them at worst going 2-2 to start the season. If that's not enough to even the playing field, then we don't deserve the division title. -
It's already severe enough lol let's not pretend like the balls helped them beat the Colts. 4 games suspension, they won't draft in the first round next year (and without Brady for the first four games, that could be a mid first round pick). That is punishment enough. Glad the NFL didn't brush this under the rug and now we can move on and worry about ourselves.

The punishment is a joke, since the Patriots get to keep their Super Bowl wins.
All of the Patriot Super Bowl victories came during the Spygate & Deflategate scandals. -

I'd love to see the Patriots get hit more, but let's just remember what kind of penalties have been handed out for ball tampering before: Chargers were only fined 20k for (likely using) towels with sticky substance on them, and the Vikings were given a warning with no fine for using sideline heaters to keep balls warm.
Granted, this is probably worse (especially because it's a playoff game and it was likely done over multiple years), but loss of a 1st rounder, $1 million, and 4 games suspension for Brady worse? Nah, I think Goodell had to send a message after all the bad publicity last year that he's serious this time. In that sense, we should be glad this happened after enough publicity flubs by the NFL last year sent the wrong message. -
The following is the statement the NFL released to the Patriots imposing discipline for "violating NFL policy on integrity of game.:

No mention of spygate. -
Brady is coming out more and more like a patsy (no pun intended... okay maybe a little bit). Vincent cited "the organization's previous record", yet Wells had all but exonerated the organization in his report.
I think Brady's taking the fall for something bigger than just him.
Again, the fumble numbers of the past few years would suggest that the cheating was not only for Brady's benefit.Unlucky 13, 77FinFan, MonstBlitz and 2 others like this. -

Sean Payton has no say in this matter? I'm sure he'd have a few choice words.

OK I see it now:
""Here, there are several factors that merit strong consideration in assessing discipline. The first is the club’s prior record. In 2007 the club and several individuals were sanctioned for videotaping signals of opposing defensive coaches in violation of the Constitution and Bylaws. Under the Integrity of the Game Policy, this prior violation of competitive rules was properly considered in determining the discipline in this case."
That conflicts with my intuition, but so be it.

The punishment was never going to be severe enough for most of us Dolphin fans, but I'm just thankful the Patriots were hit with a meaningful penalty rather than just have this swept under the rug.
Long term implications: Get read to see Belicheat running up the score on opponents every chance he gets in 2015. He will behave like a petulant child who is angry he got caught just like he was in 2007. If there is karma - Tom Brady being suspended 4 games will give the new guy a chance to shine. Brady will come back and be rusty and there will be a QB controversy. Would be great seeing Tom Brady's deserving fall from grace but it would suck if it meant Patriots have the next Brady waiting in the wings in Garafawhateverthehellhisname is. -
It's not nearly enough, but I'll take what I can get. Hopefully not reduced upon appeal.
You know, I really wish that on all player suspensions, if they appeal it, there's an equal chance of it being extended. Like, "No, you clearly did it and you know you did. The 4 game suspension is now 8. Complain again and its 16!"resnor likes this.
