It was a vicious hit, but that's football. I agree with the penalty because that's the rule now. However, it wasn't too long ago that this play was 100% legal. I doubt he was trying to maim or seriously injure Moore.

And what Ajayi did was dumb. It cost us 15 yards...

 

Football play. He went for the chest, didn't get quite low enough and caught Moore on the chin. Should have been a flag for leading with the helmet in any event, but I just don't see it as a blatant cheap shot.

I'm not about to defend the refs body of work this year though. One of the worst seasons for officiating, though I feel that way most years I suppose.

 

MM8 is one tough son of b ........ most players can't even walk off the field on their own accord after a hit like that, which was dirty as hell. Pittsburgh took it too far yesterday.

 

Cowboys, Steelers and patriots always get the calls. You get used to it after awhile

 

I have no doubt that if it were a higher caliber QB out there - Dupree would have been ejected.

 

I actually like the crew we had yesterday. They seem to let the guys play and not get too ticky-tack on marginal penalties. I think the crew failed miserably in keeping the game clean from late hits and taunting and after the whistle foolishness. They let it escalate from the beginning, then they were too late to corral it when it got chippy. The flag on Ajayi was ridiculous, especially when players will react to a cheap shot...all Ajayi did was give a shove, kind of expected under the circumstances.

 

Funny if that hit had happened to Brady, the dude would have been sentenced to live in some Gulag camp.

 

Officiating (even slightly unfair) is part of the game so I don't like blaming the refs for a loss.

Having said that, there's one game this season I just can't excuse the refereeing of: the San Diego game. That was such a blatant attempt to hand the game to the Chargers.. soooo happy we won that game because it's like we said F.U! to all the refs in the NFL.

 

Anyone outside NE would cheer as well. Two sides of the same coin. It is what it is.

On the other hand having a back dive at his knees repeatedly while he was engaged would have been an appropriate response (speaking as an ex RB).

Not that I'd do that type of thing after what I considered a bit of a cheap shot. :shifty:

 

We spent the weekend in the keys and the bar where we watched the game happened to be filled with a ton of steelers fans. Every single one of them were boasting loudly that it was a clean hit which infuriated me.

The steelers are a dirty bunch and their fans are jackasses.

 

I can't see how because there is nothing in the rules that I'm aware of that would have allowed a ref to eject a player for that.

 

Okay, but what about Landry's hit on the Bills defender? Exact same hit and they gave him a warning towards ejection.

Why is it different? Is it the "defenseless player" aspect? Because to me, Moore looked pretty darn defenseless himself...he had already thrown the pass and was just standing there. I'm asking because I don't know how the rules work on that stuff.

Side note- did you guys hear someone hacked Moore's Wikipedia page and changed him to being dead during the game yesterday? Some journalists were laughing about it but it really pissed me off....not a cool move at all.

I cant fault Ajayi for the penalty after. I was ready to fight Dupree so i cant imagine actually being there....and that is my QB...credit for being as reserved as they were.

I agree the hit was dirty. It should be fined. If it happened to Ben it would be the talk of the NFL.

 

Are you sure? I thought he got one of taunting and another for the hit...but they didn't eject him because they were two different warning types.

When it comes to penalties or fines,all quarterback are not equal.

 

I think it was a dirty hit by Dupree. I don't doubt that for a second. It was basically his second head hunting hit on Moore in the game already at that point. Maybe there was no intent, but there sure was no intent to not hit him high, that's for sure.

As for how our team handled the hit. I hated it. That play was a clear signal to our team... this is the playoffs. Step it up. Things get amped up come playoff time. That play begged for our team to go out there, specifically our defense, and hit someone in the mouth. Make them know they're in a game. Instead, all we got was a little shove from Jay Ajayi, and some words. Then, we proceeded to get physically dominated all game. I wanted to see the team get fired up there, and see the defense playing and hitting harder from that point on. Man up, you just got punched in the mouth, that was the time to fight back.

Now, the CBS crew of Nantz and Simms is brutal IMO. They cater to the popular teams fanbase all game long. Always have, always will likely. I mean, they were content to tell the game story as the Steelers dominating us all game. And... yes, I get it, they were. But no mention of how decimated our defense was by injuries until basically the 3rd quarter when most viewers who aren't fans of either team had probably long since turned the game off. Their non-reaction to the hit on Moore, not even questioning it as borderline, or anything of the nature was pretty awful to me. Almost like how NBC was content to praise the catch by Richardson (???) in the Seattl/Detroit game, even though it was only possible basically due to a facemask and OPI that wasn't called. They only spoke of that a good 15 minutes after the play happened. Likely because they got some twitter backlash. Certain teams just always get the love from the league, and it's tv partners.

 

If that hit was on Tom Brady the NFL would have taken away Pittsburghs franchise. Just ridiculous.

 

pittsburgh had about 6 helmet to helmet hits, and only 2 were called. and 2 were from dupree. also saying we should have drafted dupree... yeah... he hasn't had that great of a season until this week.

 

He was flagged and I'd be surprised if he's not fined.

 

I think you are confused because after the call the ref said something to the effect that it was a PI but didn't count towards ejection. Only deadball PIs count towards ejection so he didn't really need to add that and probably caused more confusion by doing so.

#1. It is really weird reading a thread where everyone is ragging on Dupree. My first thought is always, "I didn't do anything!"

#2. I have no doubt in my mind that Dupree would not have been rejected for that hit on any quarterback. There was nothing about that hit that was ejectable.
