''cause culture will beat scheme every time''
both quotes made me stop and think.
he was saying this after they had beat the pats on the sideline to his assistant coach.
i don't even know where to begin with this.

Its the truth. The schemes are all fairly simple, and not very unique. You win with execution.

I read that as buying into the coach's concepts, fundamentals, and discipline.

Can anyone tell us what our culture is?

Just watch him close and you can see the direct correlation to how some of the games go in crunch situations. -

Too many obvious reasons from the run on 3rd and 9 to Finnigan not charging Adams to make the tackle sooner or not forcing Adams inside so that he could be tackled in bounds, he used the sideline as a crutch and it cost us the game. -

The lack of balls is really pissing me off...he didn't give the offense a chance to close it out that third down run call was cottonball soft. He told the players to play loose and when it came down to it he showed no faith..gutless and I'm not one to place blame on coaches.

This sounds life Fail Forward Fast. We need less philosophy and more common sense.

I think he was trying to express something non of you will find in a stat book.
When you hear the song October Wind..thats what hes talking about. Its about every player and coach putting everything they have into their craft..and trusting that each is doing their part.
Culture is a belief. Its a belief that on this day..I cannot be defeated.
The Patriots have a culture.
Miami had a culture when Shula was here.
Ray Lewis brought that culture to the Ravens.
Its about..take all your numbers..and all your stats..and shove them up your *** because the only stat that matters is the W and somehow..someway..every player and coach on this team will get that W at the end of the game. Its believed.Da 'Fins, PSG, Fin-Omenal and 1 other person like this. -
Tannehill mentioned in interviews yesterday that it seemed to him that there was more urgency and determination this past week. Pouncey mentioned the way the team plays in the second half and buying in, making it happen in the first half. That is the "cause". Once the team gives in to what the coaches want them to do, and do it well (QB) from start to finish they can be great.

I think we'd have to hear him say it with our own ears to determine one way or the other. -
Doesn't chip kelly actually have to win something before he can make statements about what it takes to win in the nfl? At this point we might as well take philbin's idea of what it takes to win...."To win in the nfl, it takes having a set of beady eyes, a cold fish personality, a preference to watching film than talking to human beings and playing like a scared chicken when crucial moments of the gm come up"

You cant say..."We are an aggresive hungry football team"...then turn around and run on 3rd and 9 because you got quesy..remembering a game a year ago. The message you just gave your team as their leader..was Im scared..I dont know what to do.
You cant say.."We are a team"..and then say Lindbackers should be able to cover TEs...and put your worst covering backer on a TE with 4 secs left in the game..and a Hall of Fame QB drooling at that decision.
The next time the team faces adversity..they will have no faith the coach will make the right call. Instead of focusing on winning..they are focused on..damn I hope he doesnt do this... -
maybe he was seeing the results on the field from the implementation of the culture he instituted when he took the position...being the best physically conditioned team, changing the whole teams nutritional program, certain rules and regulation guidelines.discipline

People place way too much importance on schematics IMO. Football is like an orchestra - you need everyone working in concert. -

A good characterization of the Dolphins culture would be one of lack of accountability, shifting of blame, and poor communication. -
The "queasy" thing isn't that difficult to recover from, because in a way he's taking the blame for the loss. "That was my bad guys, I should have trusted you more." -

Heres an interesting question;
Who's responsibility is it to create a winning culture? -
-
I think Chip got lucky in a lot of ways. I don't think in his wildest imagination would he have ever believed a big lumbering slow poke like Foles could thrive in his system. Vick was his starter and he went ahead and drafted his own guy. Vick was 2-4 and had he not gotten hurt a few times I think the narrative on Kelly would be much different right now. Foles is probably a lot better than he gets credit for and maybe the system is a great match for him.
I hesitate to say this because I think I might have seen one Cards game under Ariens but he seems to be the real deal, and it doesn't even seem to matter what crap he has at QB. -
I liked the exchange they caught on camera when Riley Cooper (I think?) went to Chip Kelly on the sideline and asked him what his plan was for the next series. Chip Kelly replied, "What's my plan? Score ****ing points. That's my plan. Why, what's yours?" How would an interaction like that go with Philbin?

of course all the things matter that you say in winning games, execution is the ultimate factor, but i correlate execution with good coaching, if he was talking about good coaching then just say good coaching, he said this phrase twice in a row.
he started by saying to his assistant coach, " we have a bunch a good guys, culture wins football, culture beats scheme''
I guess its pretty silly trying to interpret what he meant. -
The Dolphins "culture" is a perpetual expansion team. We reboot every 4 years. There is no culture. We aren't the blue collar Steelers who will always have a strong defense....by hook or by crook. We aren't the lunch pale Packers who don't get cold....ever. We aren't the innovative hotbed that is the SF 49ers. Not the bad boys in the Oakland Raiders. From the fans, to the front office, to the team on the field....we don't have an identity. We don't have a fanbase like Cleveland or Pittsburgh who travels well and will support their team no matter what. Most fans self admittedly, "only support a winner." Pretty much the definition of fair-weather. We have an unknown coaching staff....a new owner....no success since Dan of which to speak of for longer than 3 minutes. There is NOTHING aside from 72 Dolphins....Don Shula.....Dan Marino to hold onto. If you wanted a culture created, you don't hire the most vanilla...most un-interesting man on the planet to generate it in the most empty unmotivated stadium....filled by the most conservative, ADD having, disinterested fans to create it. The entire franchise is TOXIC.
And its not, "Just win baby" because there are franchises that lose but still have a good culture. The Cowboys and Redskins have strong cultures. Pittsburgh sucks...but it doesn't have a culture issue. Those teams start over....and reboot with the startup disk they've already used. Miami....we just throw some stuff together under media/fan/owner pressure and hope that the dice roll our way.Bpk likes this. -
