This is the most accurate Charles Harris Scouting report I have seen.
We picked up a 3rd or 4th round type player in the 1st round. Congratulations Miami Dolphins, I seriously think the dolphins have some of the worst scouting in the league as has been proven numerous times.
I have lost all confidence in chris grier who has also been a part of previous horrible drafts during his time as director of scouting. Remember this guy was largely responsible for rating Dion Jordan so high as well.
In my opinion Charles Harris will be another dissapointment in a long line of dissapointments for us. I hope I am wrong but it is really tough to be a dolfan sometimes.

3rd or 4th round? Bwwhahahahah!!
He was a consensus 1st round pick by anybody that matters and yet you're using the opinion of some dweeb on youtube wearing a "Spike" shirt to base your opinions on.Last edited: Apr 29, 2017Redwine4all, Base of Gase, Rickysabeast and 6 others like this. -
I also have no idea if Harris will be a quality player for the Dolphins or not. Yet I have a lot more faith in the present Dolphins staff than I do in some so called expert who decides he wants to voice his opinion on the internet.
I have no doubt there are other opinions on the internet which are extremely positive about Harris. It appears you just wanted to find someone with the same opinion of Harris as your opinion and that is why you picked this nobody to voice your own opinion.Redwine4all, Kud_II, cuchulainn and 3 others like this. -
Ah draft season.
Forward that scouting report on to the Dolphins brass so they can use their opinion for all the other picks.
The guy hasn't played a down of football for us and he sucks? Do you have any stock tips?
Let's wait at least a year to see if he trains on and possibly improves on any issues he has - you know just like the the other say 220 draftees from this weekend?
Maybe? Just maybe give the guy a chance to succeed or fail.
Weren't you the guy who was all upset over us not signing Zach Brown? If so I see a trend here.Redwine4all, Fin D, Base of Gase and 5 others like this. -
First time since Ted Ginn pick that I have just absolutely disliked the pick.

Time will tell. It's not like missing on a left tackle or a QB...the guy WILL contribute. Maybe to the level of a first rounder or maybe not, but he'll be out there putting on pressure and if he's a bust, so be it. The lack of him being a great player won't cost us any more games than we were already going to lose, unlike a QB or left tackle. But if he does well, he could help win an extra game or two.

You know I was the draft last night and when Cleveland was on the clock, they went over all of the Browns past 1st round draft picks for the last 5 years and how many of them are no longer even in the league. This struck me...
How many teams' first round draft picks going back 5 years are still with the team that draft them?
I often think people put WAAAAAAY too much stock in first round draft picksPuka-head, eltos_lightfoot, dolphin25 and 1 other person like this. -
I really don't mind if someone has a different view point. Today, none of us know what this player will become. I've read other places Harris is a 4th to 5th round quality run defender. Watch some tape, you can see that obviously.
I know the Dolphins drafted him today for his pass rushing and hoping they can coach the run defend up within his game.Finster likes this. -

"No predraft visit."
"No other contact to speak of."
"The Dolphins were so, so convinced they actually tried to hide their interest in Harris by kind of ignoring him. They didn’t talk to his agent much. They didn’t let some people within the organization know Harris was the guy."

The Dolphins were sold on Harris and one other player they targeted at No. 22 overall, according to general manager Chris Grier. Grier declined to say who the other player was, but I reported days ago it was Derek Barnett. Barnett went Philadelphia pn Thursday night before the Dolphins had a chance to make a choice on him or Harris.

You're relentless eh? Jeez.
Some clown on youtube says something, and suddenly he's more credible than guys who get paid to do this for a living? I mean, come on. Anywhere you look today that's a credible source is grading us very well for this pick, considering him an easy first round selection.
We get that YOU don't like the player... but if you're going to trash the guy, at least come up with something credible. Not some guy on youtube who think's he knows what he's talking about.
Any credible source has this guy clearly rated as a first round selection, clearly one of the best pass rushers in the draft.
So, you don't like the guy, great, we all get that by now. You're bent out of shape with the pick, because it's not who you wanted. We get that too. But, please, don't use a nobody on youtube talking about it to justify it.
He may, or may not work out, but he's got tons of ability that you just can't coach, he needs to improve against the run, but a lot of pass rushers do, especially early on. Lets maybe wait and see what the plan is here.Base of Gase, Phinsfan92, cuchulainn and 3 others like this. -
I've been on the minority side with my evals as well, so I'm not gonna hate, I've been there with Dion and Pat White, when I thought they were later round picks and people thought I had a screw loose.
I do disagree with you on this pick, but you have your right to your opinion, and I'd guess you hope you're wrong, as I did with those 2 guys.Base of Gase likes this. -

163rd against the run, and that against college offenses
Dolphins seem cursed to have the biggest football idiots in history continually heading up the front office.hitman8 likes this. -
Yes, he needs to improve his run defense, everyone knows that. He wasn't drafted for his run defense, though.
For as much as we talk on here about how it's a passing league now, you'd think people would understand how important it is to have guys who can effectively rush the passer.Base of Gase and danmarino like this. -

The other thing I'll say on this video, watch him rushing the passer. I lost track of how many times I simply said wow watching him. Impressive ability there, but you see that in almost any video of him. The next thing that stood out though, the motor on this guy. He's always going, always chasing down the ballcarrier on the play, even those run to the opposite side of the field from him. -

If I'm the GM, I'm not spending 1st round draft picks on part-time players. They are depended on for immediate contributions and not just for 10-15 plays a game, which is likely the case for Harris.

I just don't think Harris is that great of a pass rusher nor projects as one athletically.Base of Gase likes this. -

* Let me be clear, I don't know much about Harris*
Seems to me, he's a lot like Bruce Irvin as a prospect. Their scouting reports read very similar.
* Both are roughly the same height and weight (undersized)
* Explosive, quick twitch athlete
* Has a good array of pass rush moves
* Not so good against the run
The biggest difference between the two from a scouting report perspective is measurables. Bruce Irvin. Irvin tested highest at the 40 yard dash, broad jump, 3-cone, and twenty yard shuttle. A real physical specimen from a measurable standpoint. Harris's measurables are more in line with a guy like Bjern Werner (yuck)... Harris's measurables are downright unimpressive.
It seems to me, as others have suggested, he was a 2nd round caliber player with his lack of measurables, inexperience, and "part-time" player label. Yet, I've seen him mocked in the top 20 quite a bit... Many considered Irvin a 2nd round prospect before Seattle "reached." Yet, most rankings, scouting reports, etc... That I've been reading seem to think Harris > Irvin a prospect. Something isn't adding up... Again, scouting reports read super similar, but Irvin had legit elite athletic tools.
As it stands, I don't love the pick... Nor do I hate it. Again, I don't know much about Harris... I'm concerned with the lack of measurables across the board, lack of experience, and part-time player label.
In the first round, I'm a fan of hitting on a quality NFL starter. Doesn't have to be a Hall of Famer, but if you're adding one quality starter every year, your team is likely competing year in and out. I think of it like Blackjack... 18.2 is the average winning hand. Yeah, I'd love to be dealt Blackjack (Hall of Famer) every hand... But I'll happily take 19 and stand every time. A guy like Harris has a risk factor I don't really care for in round 1.
Hopefully, he's Dwight Freeney 2.0. Dat spin move... Vicious.Base of Gase likes this. -

Charles Harris looks like Wake flying off the snap. Bends well, has a great spin move. He's almost exactly the same size as Wake. Both 6'3, both 250-270. He's gonna be a stud edge rusher.
Complaining about him against the run is like complaining about Wake against the run. That's not why Wake is a stud, it won't be what holds Harris back either.cuchulainn, resnor and danmarino like this. -
He's entitled to his opinion, even though there seems to be little substance to it. He seems more interested in telling us though why he's right, and that anyone who disagrees with him is an idiot. That's fine too I guess, but if you cant watch videos of this guy and see why we took him, I'm not sure what else to say other than, ok. That's good.
Does it mean he's going to be great? No. Does it mean he's awful? No. The guy hasn't played a down in the NFL though, so it's pretty hard to judge at this point. I can see why we took him. I can see some concerns with him, absolutely. To claim he's a 3rd or 4th round talent though, that's the disconnect IMO.Finster likes this. -
As I've been saying, he defeintly needs work in that department, but this tape shows that he's able to play the run very well and needs a little coaching up. It's not that he CAN'T it's that so far he hasn't. Big difference... -
Again...he's not as bad as you think...Base of Gase and Finster like this. -
