Not sure if others saw this but since it directly affects the Dolphins, it felt relevant. Young has said in multiple interviews this weekend that he's not entering the draft this season.

Well, I believe that he was more cryptic, saying that was his plan at this moment. Guys who are in the college playoffs don't typically say that they're leaving school early until their year is over. He very well could just be deflecting questions about himself until January.

Once the college playoffs are done, I think we get a final answer from Young. If the Bengals don't have the #1 pick, he has a very good chance of going #1 in the draft. He might be #1 even if Miami had the first pick (with the Phins going for a Young/Tua combo with the first two first rounders).
It would be a HUGE gamble on his future if he went back and got injured. He'd be a late first at worst with an ACL injury, but still quite a drop from being #1.texanphinatic and Unlucky 13 like this. -
I know we’re all diehard Dolphins fans here but potentially hurting his future if he returns for his senior year? You mean getting that Bachelors Degree is really going to jeopardize his future?
I always thought the PURPOSE of college was getting an education to give yourself a better future. -
It is stupid for him to not come out to the NFLresnor, PhinFan1968 and texanphinatic like this. -

Wow, so they aren’t people after all...just bred stock to feed the NFL machine.
How sad -
Look, I do agree it's a silly move, but I'm not going to judge the man for following what he wants in the face of everyone saying how dumb it is.
Also though as others have said, I'd wait until after the season is truly over to take him 100% seriously. -
He is getting paid millions for his services. Going back to school puts that in jeopardy.
If NASA offered him millions of dollars to work for them now, I would think he was stupid for turning down that offer.resnor, Sceeto and texanphinatic like this. -
Hes entering the draft, 100000% guaranteed.

You want to forego your senior year of college to declare for the NFL draft? It’s YOUR life. Best of luck.
You want to return to school for your senior year? It’s YOUR life. Best of luck.
Those who feel the way you’re expressing are saying in no uncertain terms, “you don’t know what you’re doing. I know what’s best for you. You should do this, that or the other and if you don’t you’re stupid”

Even if I believe his decision is stupid, I wish him the best of luck.
It is a free country so I can say on a bulletin board that I think his decision is stupid and the government will not arrest me.resnor likes this. -

One thing that nobody mentioned- he wouldn't be returning just for the education. He'd also be returning to support his team and their program, which speaks volumes of the type of person he is. Him making this decision makes him even more desirable in my mind...whether it changes in the coming months or not.
-
I think it's a foolish move when you are likely the overall #1 pick. Not sure why he would forgo the draft. As for completing his senior year there are plenty of professional athletes that can continue their education after they declare for the draft. Nothing would prevent him from completing his degree.resnor and Dol-Fan Dupree like this. -
The idea that he needs to stay in school to get an education is folly. He has the ability to complete his education at any time. He will essentially need 2, or maybe even just 1 semester of classes. His salary will make paying for that a laugh, especially when compared to the scholarship.
An education is valuable, sure. So is making literal millions of dollars while you are in the prime of being able to do so without really jeopardizing the ability to complete said education. -
I would suspect the reason he would want to return is more to challenge for and win the national championship and have another year with his teammates more than any notion of education or improvement. He wouldn't be the first to prioritize that kind of thing, but it would still be a massive (and imo foolish) risk. He would almost certainly cost himself millions even if he doesn't get hurt. He will likely need to go up against Lawrence and Fields, and risks being surpassed by other talents. This year he is essentially a guarantee to go top 2.

I looked this up but Young clarified the comments he made to TMZ and said he has no "plan" for 2020 yet. He said about the interview: "That moment was just a real spontaneous moment, caught me off-guard. I’m not even really worried anything in the future.."
So I think this is all talk about nothing. The guy is almost certainly entering the draft.KeyFin, thetylernator, Bumrush and 2 others like this. -
That would be unfortunate.

I'm willing to bet that he completely changes his mind within the next month. In my opinon, I think it's very likely that he will be in the 2020 draft. If he does in fact decide to go back to school, that is certainly his choice to make. Tim Duncan finished out his senior year at Wake Forest back in the 90s and went on to play almost 20 years in the NBA. Some people have different priorities in life.
All in all I hope he is available in this draft when our pick comes up. I would definitely love for us to draft him if the opportunity presents itself. I think he's a can't miss edge defender and an all pro at the next level for many many years.AGuyNamedAlex likes this. -
But what else are we really talking about this time of year? LOL, the Tennessee Titans? It felt relevant anyway. -
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Getting his bachelor's will not equate to the guaranteed money he'll get from being drafted. College is mostly a waste of time anyways. Get paid now, don't risk an injury, and complete college after you're drafted. Or don't complete...you already got paid. Most people go to college to gain access to better paying jobs. There's no need if you're already paid. -
What a long thread of pointless discussion. He is entering the draft. That is a billion times guaranteed.

So the draft is shaping up to be Cinci taking Burrows and either Giants or Redskins taking Young. It doesn't look like the Giants or the Redskins will pick a QB (reading their boards), so that means our only competition for Tua would potentially be the Lions. Lions play Denver and GB, and given their recent form they're likely to lose both, so that's something to watch out for. They lose out and we beat Cinci and they draft ahead of us, which means we probably have to go to plan B (as in a plan without Burrows or Tua).
btw there's an outside chance the Dolphins end up with the #1 pick: we lose out, Cinci beats us and the Browns, Giants beat the Redskins, and for SoS Carolina beats Indy. Of course, if neither the Giants nor Redskins are after a QB, we'd only need the #2 pick and that only requires us losing out and Cinci winning out. Who knows.. then we could get Burrows!KeyFin, AGuyNamedAlex and Fin-O like this. -
Im all for losing the next two games... getting Chase Young in Miami is important...
i dont like rooting against us but the time is now, make sure we get the best possible pick. -
The stars could align though- the Browns are self-destructing with Landry screaming at the coach on the sidelines. ODB wants OUT too. Maybe, just maybe, the Bengals face two inferior teams and pull off two upsets. -
I know it sounds insane, but if you have a higher grade on him than Burrow and you believe in his medicals....you probably dont try and get too cute.
I'm not sure Boomer has any inside info....if he does then obviously it would be Burrow.
We all assume Tua is going to fall but some people here still want him with our first pick if he seems to be making medical progress.
Edit after the fact:
In hindsight, what if Peyton was injured before the draft? Would taking Ryan Leaf #1 have been a better move because he was healthy? Not comparing Burrow to Leaf at all, I love Burrow, just saying.Last edited: Dec 17, 2019KeyFin and texanphinatic like this. -
*edit* The Lions' ownership has officially announced that GM Bob Quinn and HC Matt Patricia will be retained for 2020. This likely takes them out of the running for a QB unless the prognosis for Stafford is just terrible. It's possible they try and swing a home run on offense with Jeudy or Lamb, but I would suspect a defensive player to be the pick.Last edited: Dec 17, 2019AGuyNamedAlex likes this. -
