I put this her because he could be a Dolphin soon.

perfect timing given the other thread. Get er done Ireland. Of course, I really doubt we'd be the only team going after this guy, so even if we want him, no guarantee

Well this almost seems like a done deal considering he was a cowboy lol. I wouldn't actually mind this one though.
-
Doe's anyone any link or proof Miami is perusing him? Until then I doubt it.

The regime isn't blind, they know the struggles we currently have. It's more of whether they are willing to pay for the upgrade. Silly if they don't, but given their track record, it would be surprising if they didn't

I'm not in favor of moving the rookie less than two weeks before the regular season begins. He was drafted to be a Center and I would rather he continue working at that position. You don't want to keep moving him back and forth as if you don't know what he is and before you know it he's starting to get the bust label because he's not gotten comfortable at one position. He's not bad at Center, just limited. He can make competent blocks and I haven't sensed too much of an issue anchoring, but in short yardage situation he gets pwned. He'll be worse at Guard, though. At Guard you have to be powerful enough to move people by yourself. At Center you work off double teams more often.
What the Dolphins could do is put Andre Gurode at Right Guard while Vernon Carey moves back to Right Tackle in place of Colombo. And if you're getting the sense that isn't working because Carey just doesn't have it anymore, you start Nate Garner at Right Tackle in his place.
But even that isn't an ideal move. I don't know if you've seen Andre Gurode play lately but it's a lot like how Jake Grove looked by the time we cut him. He looks like he's trying to run around on two flat tires. He's got no spring left in his feet and he labors whenever he has to move any distance. He makes up for it a little bit with his strong upper body and some savvy veteran tricks he's learned along the way, but there's only so much those things can make up for, especially when you're asking your OLs to zone block. -
i dont know if he could play guard and i dont think we should move Pouncey... Pouncey isn't the problem with our line and should continue developing at C...
but kick the tires, see if he can play Guard... -
I haven't watched Gurode play so I can't comment on him, but if you bring him in you put him at G and leave Pouncey at C. I don't get why people seem so averse to just letting a guy develop? C is a far more important position and contrary to many opinions here, the coaches seem very pleased with how Pouncey is doing at C.

As a testament to how far gone Gurode is, during the preseason game this weekend against the Vikings, they sat Gurode and had rookie undrafted free agent Kevin Kowalski start in his place. That guy they have been raving about, Gurode's primary backup, he was injured...so he couldn't play in the game. They went into the game with a UDFA rookie at Center and Bill Nagy at Left Guard, and I thought they looked pretty good against a good Vikings defense. They were energetic, created space and opportunities for Felix Jones, and I didn't really notice too many pass protection gaffes. Felix Jones averaged 4.0 yards per carry in that first half with an 11 yard TD run, and Tony Romo had 141 yards passing with a 94 QB Rating, 1 sack for -6 yards.
I don't know if signing an Andre Gurode is doing something that actually improves the team, or just looks like they're doing something to improve the team. They might do it just to look like they're actually doing something to fix the problem.rafael likes this. -

We should sign Gurode for the Pats game. He can pick a fight with Albert Haynesworth and hopefully get his face stomped on and get Fat Albert kicked outta the game.
Barring that, I think Gurode is useless!MikeHoncho likes this. -
Well Murtha has been playing well on left side right? So when Long comes back he'll move to right side and line could be improved right there? Though signing Gurode could end up being a great help.

would be a good move. providing options as well as competition to the interior line. all we need is one good year out of a quality veteran to help put us over the hump. there are other out there, I'm sure he won't be the last...

Had knee surgery in June. Don't know the extent of injury but takes time to get leg strength back for a 32 year old 300 lb. player. One of those moves that could pay off more in November or December but would do little to solve immediate problems.

It isn't just Gurode , Miami has several options for a veteran to bring in with no compensation ,it is up to them to make the right call in that regard. -
Are they waiting until week 1 or after week 1 since it would be cheaper with termination pay dropping? Gurode, O'Hara would be available. May be concerned about O'Hara's health, but Gurode seems fine. Cowboys didn't want to pay him 5.5 million and they have someone else who is good to put in his place...we don't. Hope they don't wait too long and someone else snatches him up, they'll look like idiots. They have to try something.

Available and effective moves are not plentiful at this stage. The guys that are available, there's a reason for that. You can't block people with your name tag.

In short, Gurode has played well and this UDFA is just really good, right? -

Andre Gurode released by Cowboys
Come on. Sign this guy! Then he or Pouncey can play C the other OG and Carey can go back to RT.

^^ Agreed!

Cut Jerry and fill spot with Gurode and see how he plays at RG. I think Murtha or Carey should be able to hold down the RT spot better than Colombo has been. Pouncey needs to stay at C and learn to get that position down rather than move him to RG. All I know is we need to make some kind of moves at Oline or we might be in trouble
-
I'd bet we don't sign Gurode. If we wanted a large veteran Cowboys OL to plug at RG, why not sign Leonard Davis who has been playing there for years and no knee problem. Unless there is something wrong with Davis that no one knows in the fan and media world, I can't see any reason he'd get bypassed, and then Gurode get signed to move from center, where he has played exclusively for years.

Also, my bet is Carey never goes back to RT for the Dolphins, unless Colombo, Garner and Murtha all get injured in the next game and going to all miss time. Not likely.
Folks, resign yourself to the fact that Carey is going to RG and next year, gone.ToddsPhins likes this. -
Sparano appears to have locked in on 4 of his 5 Olinemen, with apparently backup Tackle still in doubt, but it was reported that Murtha missed practice today and Nate Garner took over at LT.
On the one hand, I'm glad Sparano is not playing musical Olinemen
On the other hand, I'm not sure if these are the right 5 guys, my goodness Colombo and Henne, Sparano is basically betting his career on them, he went so far as to deflect criticism and said:
Consider that Henne had 14 pass attempts, but was sacked 3 times, even if the sacks do not count as attempts, that is one sack every 6 drop backs, that is pathetic. -
I guess coach feels he can't publicly criticize these guys and he's right. But unless he has them playing with some sort intentional handicap we don't know about, I don't know what he's seeing.
