When Ross stated several years ago that he wanted to build an exciting offense and team, it sounded great in theory but didn't seem to happen in practice. Fast forward to today and we have an ascending QB, a top 5 WR Corp in the NFL, a solid running game, a young and innovative OC and a top 5 dominator on defense that is going to bring it every play.
For all the hatred we have given Ross over the years you have to respect the man for doing his part to deliver on a vision. He has learned from his mistakes and this organization is shaping up to be an upper echelon franchise once again. Kudos to Ross and Company.
And kudos for improving the stadium!

Guy's a slow learner, but he's learning it seems. Can't sing his praises until we get the coaching situation fixed, or until we become a really good team (even .. gulp .. with Philbin). For the most part, a lot of the moves we like are just correcting mistakes he made earlier, but like I said he's learning.

Still don't like keeping Philbin around. Otherwise I would say hes building a NICE organization. The only thing I worry about is continuity with the offense alot of new parts. Who's ryans security blanked? Cameron? Lots of youth at reciever hopefully Jennings helps mold these guys into a unit by week 2-3...

I don't think I will sing any praises until we get to be a second round playoff caliber team .

I wouldn't say Top 5 just yet, but it's solid. Landry has to show that the second year wall can be scaled at 9.0 YPC, Stills has to show that he's productive away from a sure HOFer, Matthews has to see the field, Jennings has to show he still has gas in the tank, and Parker has to show he can adjust to the NFL game.

He's improved, there's no doubt about that. He's still makign some mistakes, he just can't help himself from opening his mouth sometimes when he shouldnt. However, he's learning. I head the guys on Sirius NFL radio talking a few months abot about how hard it is to be an owner in the NFL. Most of these guys are passionate about the game, and their teams... and really, why wouldn't they be? They've got ALOT of money tied up in the investment. There's no handbook for being an NFL owner, sometimes theres things you just learn as you go along. He's learned from his major early mistakes, hired some key football people to make the important football decisions, he's tried everythign he could to fund the stadium the way almost every other NFL team does, but using public funds, failed there, but then backed the renovations largely on his own. You've got to respect that.
Like someone said earlier, the arrows are pointing up in every aspect of this team I'd think. That's a good thing. -
I agree. It is hard to give Ross much credit when he is the owner who stuck with Ireland way too long and still has mediocre Philbin as the head coach.
While I like what I see from the new front office. I still see this as an 8-8 team in 2015. So Ross will have a chance after the season to change my opinion of him as an owner when he selects a new head coach to replace Philbin starting in 2016. -
Ah the draft. Hope springs eternal. Lol
J/k but let's how the product does on the field before we start praising him. It could all go pear shaped quickly.Clark Kent, MonstBlitz and TiP54 like this. -
The local press is always putting the team down and second guessing everything they do, does OMAR need to tweet Wallace>Stills is that necessary or is he just trying to **** the kid up.
After many many years this is the best I've felt about this team and the owner, I do agree Philbin should have been gone. -

He hasn't learned from his mistakes at all.
He kept Philbin and then half-measured his way into another bizarre power structure. The only reason this hasn't become an embarrassment is that Tannenbaum has seized goodwill with the fans and has managed to cobble together decent relationship with Hickey after demoting him.
Our pretty much only hope is that Tannenbaum turns out to have learned a lot from his stint with the Jets and is able to largely seize the reins in terms of football operations and Ross basically just shows up to sign checks. Which is putting a lot of faith in Tannenbaum.Clark Kent, LBsFinest, MonstBlitz and 1 other person like this. -
Ross deserves a ton of credit, self financed stadium upgrades, putting a solid foundation in place, and my favorite: ignoring the advice of dumb fans and gasbag media.

The fact is the Dolphins just haven't been a very good football team for over a decade and it is hard to be positive when the team you are covering as a reporter plays mediocre football, year after year.
Ross has also given them plenty of ammunition to be negative by his actions of trying to hire Harbaugh, while still having a head coach. Also! most reporters and Dolphins fans were calling for the firing of Ireland at least a year before Ross finally saw the light.
The hiring of Philbin, a coach with zero head coaching experience at any level of football was another blunder by Ross. This blunder was only made worse by Ross coming out after the win over a very average Vikings team at home last year and declaring that Philbin would be returning as the head coach in 2015.
The players were so happy to hear Philbin would be returning, they went out the next week and played their worst game of the year when they were completely destroyed by a terrible Jets team.
The Dolphins will get plenty of good press in the local media once they show they deserve it by becoming a better team on the field. You can't expect the media to write positive comments about a team that doesn't provide many positive wins on game day.
If the Dolphin organization doesn't like the negative reports by the local media. All they have to do to change these comments is to start winning more games. It is as simple as that. -
Dennis Hickey is officially the GM, and supposed to have full control over the roster.
In reality, he's basically been demoted to Tannenbaum's assistant. Then there's Aponte, and Philbin who went from having all the juice to none in an off-season. And if Tannenbaum slips up, it'll be something else. Maybe a Head Coach/GM?Bpk likes this. -

What a joke. Ross is a business man selling a product; he still sleeps in his Jets pajamas. When it's the Dolphins ruling the east instead of the Patriots then, and only then, has he accomplished something.

The only thing that I can tell you is that fans seem to think the world consists only of bumbling idiots, ego-maniacal bond villains and super-heroes who are responsible for all the sunshine and success in the world.

Today's big problem, not just in football, is instant gratification. There is something to be said about consistency. Philbin has made a lot of mistakes. He has also, or so it seems, learned a lot from his mistakes. Will he be perfect? No, but I'd rather give someone who is showing growth more than a couple of seasons than hire a new coach every year we don't win a championship.
-
He's still the same stiff with nothing to recommend him as an NFL head coach. -
I know Ross means well but he's still a complete embarrassment as an owner. -
I will be happy with Ross as the Dolphins owner when this team wins a Super Bowl. Winning the ultimate game is really the only thing that matters in the NFL or in any sport.
Every year in the NFL you have 31 losers and one big winner. I have no doubt Ross wants to win a SB. I just don't know if he has the ability to put together a top level front office and coaching staff to get the job done.
Right now the Dolphins have what many consider the worst HC in the NFL. Until that changes, I just don't see this team being anything but mediocre.
I give Tannebaum credit for enticing Suh to sign with the Dolphins. Hopefully he learned from his many mistakes with the Jets and he can build a team who can contend for the SB for several years to come. Not like he did in New York, where he built the team for a two year run and then left the Jets in cap hell after he was fired.
Hickey appears to be a better hire than I thought he would be. I just have no idea if he is truly given the freedom to make player personnel decisions or if he is just a yes man to Tannebaum at this time.
I think it will be 2016, under the direction of a new head coach before we will know if this team is headed in the right direction or not. -

The offense was better, that's some growth for you. Too bad the defense was a total letdown.
