The strengths of this offense requires touch passes and quick reads obvious weakness with Henne. SO why the **** are we still running this **** offense? Why can't we play to the strength of Chad Henne instead of this failure of an offense?

We are 1-0, I think scrapping the entire offense is a great idea. Hopefully we can lose the next 15.

Did you see that pass to Fasano to set up the TD? Looked like pretty good touch to me. Marshall dropped a ball downfield that was a little underthrown, Hartline dropped a few passes, Henne took what the defense gave him and didn't make any mistakes, the running game looks pretty good, and the defense looks awesome.
There is nothing to complain about. We won the freaking game. Division win on the road to start the season, that's a GREAT way to start our season.
1-0! -
Sure keep the blinders on and think everything is perfect. -
That deep ball was thrown into the wind. I thought Henning called a very good game.

Only issue I had with Henning was when it was 2nd and 5 on the second to last drive and he called a pass when we were running the ball well. I thought he outsmarted himself there.

We dropped like three or four passes. He did what I thought he would, which I wrote in the game thread yesterday. Short passes - run dig routes, rub routes, curls. Buffalo was going to play man entire game so you had to attack them and then when McKelvin started getting comfortable, he did the double move with Marshall. If Marshall catches that ball, no one complains here IMO. I thought he'd run 35 times this game at least and he ran 36 total. I thought he called a great game. For the ones who wanted deep balls, it was not a good thing IMO. It didn't play into what the defense was showing.

Whether it's the offensive line, lackluster quarterback play or the receivers not getting open and/or dropping passes, the offense looked much like the previous two (years).
It seems like we challenged downfield once (the underthrow/drop) and that was it.
You just don't see the confidence, the aggression, the tempo that you see from other teams. Everything is a struggle. No question, development from Henne will help here.
It's troubling that the offensive line is struggling to open holes because we won't face a front this weak again until Halloween, if that.Ultra, PhiNomina, Coral Reefer and 4 others like this. -
henning had some great calls and also some wtf were you thinking calls. i do kind of agree he doesn't seem to play to Henne's strengths but it's our first game of the season and we just bucked the trend, it's been so long since we won an opener on the road that i am happy with that. the defense looks freaking incredible the offense played just good enough to win. if we continue our usual progression from here were in a pretty good spot right now. were obviously not superbowl bound just let but let's see what the rest of the season brings :)
Sorry for lack of caps shift key is wonky, need a new keyboard :lol:HULKFish likes this. -
no more excuses, the good & the bad:
defense played superbly.
the offensive line did not dominate a second tier defense
& Henne failed to step up. it is what it is.
we're off to a "quick start"
& have time to make adjustments before Minnesota :up:HULKFish and TheMageGandalf like this. -

We have run this O last year(no changes) from what I've seen.
If a dumb *** like myself can see it,do you think the pro's can? -
My observations are....Offensive line looked much much better than preseason. The defense was stellar except that blown coverage late in the game. Henne looked pretty good, still coming into his own I think. Overall good game, the offense played a really good bills defense. Lets not forget that the defense was a strength last year for Buffalo. They had like the 4th ranked pass coverage, a saftey that led the league in picks. That is where they are solid. On the passing note though, how about the time Chad to throw the ball 95% of the time. Yeah got a couple pressures but for the most part he was clear to fire the ball. Just need to start hanging onto it a little better.

As for Henne, I saw no problems with his game today, sure he was short on the throw to Marshall, I speculated in the GD thread that it was due to the wind, and probably was. Either way though, when your elite top 5 in the NFL WR gets his paws on that ball, he should still catch it, but its neither here nor there now.
There's nothing wrong with anything Henne did today IMO. No INTS, a near perfect almost TD pass to Fasano, and good throws/reads all day long, can't really be too upset with that. Those who are, need to give up the dream of Marino part 2. Its never going to happen. Same way the Colts will NEVER replace Peyton Manning, or the Pats will never replace Brady etc... etc... -
Don't stone me but I think Pennington would be better suited to run this offense. It fits him perfectly. Sure Henne has the stronger arm but I can't help but think Pennington would be much better under Henning's offense.
I just want The offense to better cater Henne.Ultra likes this. -

It's natural for the offense to start out the year a step behind the defense.

Where is the long ball(yet again)?
Bess had a few forced into him and he made the best of the situation. I liked when they finally got him the ball in the 4th on those 2 consecutive.
Where is the game planning? Please,I need someone to let me know...
Short passes - run dig routes, rub routes, curls are what they did. this is true.
What happened to the running game we should have ?W e need to do better with picking on the miss matches because we had a few. Henne looked at Marshall on 90% of the passing downs.
That will haunt this team, believe me! -
-
The long ball was not available I felt. They could have gone to it in the second half again but they obviously felt it was not necessary.
Bess had a few forced to him? Which ones? He got us a first down a great amount of the time. If that's forcing it to him, then keep forcing it and let him make the best of it.
The gameplanning is what you explained. We ran the ball for 130 yards today. Two tailbacks had over 60 yards.
Henne should be looking at Marshall on his passing downs. He's one of his reads and he should be his first read. Hence why he caught eight balls.siciliansith and Trowa like this. -
Don't forget about the first & 10 run play called for Lousaka Polite, followed by the wildcrap. Play calling killed that drive and it was going so well.
I'm not a fan of Henning at all but I'll simmer down a bit until the offense has more of a chance to gel. -

What more do you want? This game is 25-3 if a couple of plays go differently. And that's against a pretty strong defense and one of the best secondaries in the NFL. We had a smart game plan that we executed to near perfection. Several of you are severely underestimating the Bills defense. First game of the season with 5 new starters on offense and we run the ball efficiently, no turnovers in the passing game, offensive line pass protected very well, we went deep a couple of times including the pass that Marshall dropped. Say what you want about Henne but if you're paying a WR 10 mil a year they need to catch passes in the red zone that hit them in the hands. Too many fans want to be the coach without truly comprehending how an NFL game plays out. You take gambles, some pay off, some don't. You make bone headed calls sometimes. And I challenge anyone and everyone here, if you think you can put together a better offensive gameplan for this team than a 45 year NFL veteran, please send your resume to the Miami Dolphins. If not, please shut the **** up. :)

No question about it, the real problem with the offense today was the QB.
